Portal 2

I got a horrible headache from playing Portal 1, wonder if it'll happen for 2.

Anyway, what is it... Now that the cake joke has appeared on trendy hipster shirts we have to change it for a potato joke? We must out-subculture the subculture!

My head hurts, I think I may finish it tomorrow. Got about 4 hours in. I'm being tested by propulsion gel. How close to the end am I tycoonist (or anyone else)?

If its your first encounter with orange, you got a long way yet.

EDIT: I should add at this point, that this is by far and away the best game I've played this year, and all things conisdered, is probably one of the best games I will ever play.

Hooray I beat first player! I especially liked the ending! Without going too deep into spoiler territory, but when I saw the primary ingredient for the white goo and fired at it, I was like HOLY CRAAAAAAP!

A couple of screenshots I got. I'm currently still near the start of the gel testing area. So a way to go still.

Every evil lair needs some wacky room placement:

Nice to know they've won such presitigious awards!

How many chapters are there? That might give me a better indication of where I am.

Ok, so I'm more than 1/2 through I think. I can't be that far from the end of 7.

Those of you playing or completed already - is it worth a $60 pricetag? I loved the first Portal, but 60 bucks for 7-10 hours of gameplay is too steep IMO. I'm planning to wait for a drop in price, but curious what you folks thought so far.

It is a fantastic game. If you don't have the money spare, waiting for a sale isn't gonna depreciate your enjoyment of the game however.

For me, no amount of fantastic warrants 60$ for 7-10 hours. None. I'll buy it at 20 maybe.

Would you pay $60 for a 7-10 hour trip to space?m

EDIT: I should also mention, 7-10 hours is just SP. MP is about another 5 I am told

7-10 hours of play value isnt really worth 60 bucks....and not sure how many will actually do it co-op.

Wasnt the original portal part of the Orange Box? And that had like 5 or 6 games in it to include TF2 for only about 30 bucks or so. Or am I not remembering that right? :(

Anyways, still planning on getting this, just may wait a month or so for a nice price break.

I've seen a lot of people say it took them about 8 or 9 hours to complete the SP and 4-6 hours to complete the Co-Op and that it is one of the best games they have ever played, its also $49.99 here, dunno about in the UK.

Portal 1 was a new experimental IP that was only about 3 hours long, and despite that it became incredibly popular with a strong presence in nerd/geek culture. The co-op mode alone is longer than the original game and has its own storyline. Dollars per hour isn't an accurate measurement anyway, and it will probably be a while before it goes on sale and the game will still be awesome then anyway. I cannot freaking wait until my exams are done and I can play it :D

Yeah the original was actually just tacked onto the orange box, valve didn't think it would be as successful as it was.

$60 seems steep... its like £30 over here.

Something that will be interesting is whether valve release free DLC or pay DLC for the game. Valve don't in general release pay DLC, unless its just cosmetic, so here's hoping.

30 British pounds = 49.11 U.S. dollars
So about the same, man the GBP has really dropped in value in the last several years.

I think Valve is definitely going to be releasing more content for Portal 2, they have reskinned the Mann Co store and have a few cosmetic hats and animations you can put on the co-op robots and several TF2 hats are importable. I would not be surprised to see more co-op maps made by Valve and the community being officially added to the game.

The PC version is only $50, but I see where you guys come from. Anyway so far it's great, as far as the price tag goes it's a better value than 5 10$ movies and in my opinion better.

As for progress I finished 7 and I'm 5/19 on 8. And for something else, did anyone else on multiple occasions miss something very obvious, or am I the only one?

Waiting for sale. I don't care if it's a "full game," 6 hours single player is laughable.

Plus it's already been kind of ruined for me.

Finished. <snip> All told, it took me about 7 hours.

Only seven hours to beat the game!

I'll be getting my copy when there's a nice sale and it's at least half the price it is now.

After seeing how long it takes to complete it, I'll probably wait too. What sucks is I was really looking forward to playing this game.

I don't understand how only 7 hours is an argument. Sure, seven hours isn't a huge amount of time, but it was arguably the most enjoyable 7 hours of my year... Considering that I've happily spent more than £30 on a night out, and had a lot less fun, I'd say that actually its a pretty good use of £30. And again, 7 hours is just for the SP.
