Portal 2

I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive, saved a few £ by ordering it elsewhere but couldn't wait for it to get really cheap. I have high hopes for this game, I got a lot of hours play out of portal even after I finished the story trying to get good times on the advanced maps and get the medals (there's one I just couldn't do quickly enough or in a few enough steps). I hope I get as much fun from this game. The comments sound promising.

There aren't any of the time trials or advanced test chambers yet, but there is co op, and I wouldn't be surprised to see valve introduce them at a later date in the form of free DLC (valve tends to release free DLC).

For a game that has had DLC forever and was really cheap like TF2, I'd say yeah, there has been LOTSA FREE DLC, woot woot.

For Portal 2, I'd say you guys have already paid for the first several incoming "free" DLCs, mehehe...

You might not find the sequel quite as challenging, but the storyline and humour is really, really worth playing it for.

FTFY, it would be more like free updates since dlc is optional (and a complete rip off), where as these will be updates to the game with new content and no choice in the matter :p

I don't think I will get a chance to beat co-op before I leave. :( I have too much to do. Bahumbug.

I just downloaded a 140mb update. Anyway know what is was?

Completed the single player and Steam is saying that it took 9 hours whilst Steam says I completed Half Life 2 in 8 hours so don't have any qualms about the length.

Liked the story line particularly at the end although some bits did get a little repetitive and I think it would have been better if the difficultly of the puzzles had increased earlier in the game as for the first half didn't really require much thinking.

Is it another spectacular Steam exclusive? If so, I won't even consider getting it, unless it's on Xbox 360.

At least that's understandable. Forcing non-Valve games to be Steam-exclusive is straight out of the Microsoft school of monopolies.

Except Valve doesn't force other publishers and developers to make their games Steam exclusive. Its their choice whether you like it or not.

Well, I'm sure Valve is paying a LOT of money or other favours to have games like Fallout NV and Civ V made into Steam exclusives. I can't imagine that people volunteer to arbitrarily reduce their customer pool.

Civ5 is still and has been since release amongst the top 10 most played games on Steam since its release. It probably lost more customers from being rushed than it did from being on Steam (and probably made more customers from being on Steam). New Vegas is a little bit lower but only by a few spots. Hell, Borderlands isn't Steam exclusive and its right up there too, so is GTAIV. Being on Steam, exclusive or not, certainly has not hurt sales. As well from a developer's viewpoint there are quite a few advantages to suing Steamworks. But anyway that's been discussed to death before and is irrelevant to the thread on hand.

I never suggested that being on Steam hurts sales in the slightest, but there is undoubtedly some corporate back-scratching going on and I find it distasteful to say the least.
