This is my first NES and this is how I am going to do this. As you know, Daft's Alternate Timeline Generator gave me an Idea. To combine a fresh start with the random but interlocking historical cultures of the Generator. Of course, this will perhaps be the first NES of mine that will get to the first update unscathed.

So this is my idea.

First we start with the Alternate Timeline Generator.

After the generator we go back here for more discussion of the rule set I should use.

Here is the map.
<snip>

Rules Here.
I give credit to Daftpanzer for doing it and I try to break ground in even more accurate NESes when compared to history but still a unique world by itself.
Spoiler :
The Idea: to build a very rough alternate history from scratch in only a few days, as an enjoyable creative exercise rather than a competitive game. I will be the 'mod'. People will create simplified cultures (tribes at the beginning, becoming one or more nations later on), and post 'orders' about what they will do in the next era. I will 'update' with a rushed world map and some lines of text to say what happened in that era. The idea is to keep things very simple and go very fast (?!?).

There are no stats and nothing to spend each turn. People can do anything with their cultures if I believe it is realistic. But, trying to do too much at once, will usually result in no real progress overall. By concentrating on one or two areas instead, much more progress will be made those areas. Basically, people will be choosing main priorities/goals for their culture in each turn. Not that there is necessarily any 'wrong' choice. You could just help to evolve this world in some interesting way. Even starting a civil war could have benefits in the long run.

Since this is not a competitive game, anyone is encouraged to voice opinions on how this world should evolve. I don't pretend to be the most knowledgeable person around, so I will also be listening to group consensus.

Each turn is one 'era'. Each era will have a different 'theme' and will be guided in that direction (EG early civilization, rise of great empires, explorations, barbarian invasions, industrialisation etc). The events of one era will influence the theme of the next. I estimate something like the modern age to occur after 14 eras.

Here goes...
This will start as a generator. And such a player will post a culture that will start as a group of tribes. Becoming one or more distinct nations. Funding major mysterious projects until Interesting Time Start. Within this time players do anything within the bounds of reality. A mounument to the god of Sun to defeat the god of Glaciers? Ok, explain. Just post you prioraties to each group of people in your culture and with less priorities, the more work is to make more advances. More Priorities? More stuff happen but less things are done. There isn't a wrong choice and even a civil war can be useful in the long run, although we only have 5-7 updates.

This part is not competative but to generate a weaving and interlocking history between nations when we go into Interesting Times. Please voice thoughts and opinions, and I am definally not the smartest in the world, I will think about all suggestions.

Start a culture, this update will not see the rise of civilization and cities but rather the rise of small villages and towns. First Civilization will be up next turn.

Maury Tribes / Mythmonster2
Spoiler :

Culture Economics: Nothing is owned currently. Everything in the tribe belongs to everyone. Food, weapons, arts, everything. This will change upon becoming an actual state.
Culture Beliefs: Believe in spirits in everything, similar to what most others believed in at the time.
Culture Social Ladder: At the bottom are the prisoners of war, of which there are not much. Hunters come next, then shamans who can communicate with the spirits, then the leader's council, and finally the leader.
Description: A small tribe of elephant hunting warriors roughly in Northern India. They believe the elephant to be the mightiest thing ever, and everything they have is build out of it, like tents.
Small area in northern India.

Darali Kingdoms / Vertinarni118
Spoiler :

Culture Name: Darali
Culture Economics: Hunter-Gather culture with raids on rival tribes also being common. Crafted goods are becoming more common with weapons and tools being the most common, also works of jewellery made from amber are becoming common. Farming and herding are now widespread. Metal working is now being looked at as well as better ways of making tools of any kind including war.

Culture Beliefs: The Darali belive that everything in nature has at least a minor spirit attachted to it. More major things such as large forests or big river have more powerful spirit attachted to it. Some more abstact concepts are begining to gain spirits and some less important things in nature are begining to lose them. The Darali still worship nature as before but they now also worship War, Death and Life. Furneral rituals are becoming more inportant as are the rites of passage as more and more warriors die in their many wars. (the rites of passage are meant to prepare a person for their future role in the tribe as craftsmen, warriors or shamans.

Culture Social Ladder: Slaves are at the bottom and if you are one there is no way to advance. Next is tribesmen and women who consisit of anyone in the tribe who has yet to progress to a higher level. After that there are craftsmen. Then there is a type of craftsmen called war craftsmen (guess what they make). Then the chain splinters into two one for shamans and one for combatants in the tribe.

Combantant chain
Hunters--->Warriors--->Raid warriors--->Lower Chiefs--->High Chiefs--->King and Queen.

Shamans
Spirits' Mouthpieces--->Shamams--->High Shamans--->Great Shaman

Description.

The Darali are a small tribe on the boarder with France and Germany. They are good warriors and for this reason, and the fact that they like to take slaves, they are not well liked by nearby tribes.

A larger area increased by war and peaceful expansion area on the modern France Germany boarder. Some has traveled into an Island off the coast.

Great Shamandom of Chunherra / Tribes of Chunherra
Spoiler :
Culture Economics: Tribes have their own stockpiles- they share significantly, but not everybody cooperates.
Culture Beliefs: Believe in lesser sprits as guardians of each tribe, and a set of Great Sprits who are far more powerful.
Culture Social Ladder: Everybody pays lip service to the Great Shaman, representative of the Great Spirits. Each tribe is ruled in practice by an informal (doesn't exist in theory) leader who gives orders, and is obeyed because they usually result in good results. The Great Shaman is himself a powerful leader, and by far the strongest single one (if nowhere near as strong as he is in theory)
Description: Occupy the region nowadays known as Palestine (enough description put into the rest of it).

Bugundo Citystates: lord_joakim
Spoiler :
Culture Economics: Hunting, fishing, spice growing, copper.
Culture Beliefs: Believe in spirits in everything, similar to what most others believed in at the time.
Culture Social Ladder: From bottom to top: Beggars-thieves-etc, hunters-fishermen, spice growers, Pagan priests, chiefs.
Description: Pretty much hunters and spice harvesters, who live in a loose society under a chief. Growth of first copper industry to help harvesting and hunting.
Region in southwest India. The most advanced culture. First to use writing.

Balthar Priestdoms/ Partial Empires: Moose Warrior
Spoiler :
Culture Name: Balthar

Culture Economics: Excellent hunters beginning to grow food, mainly corn. Slave raids on neighboring tribes are common, and slaves do most manual labor and agriculture.

Culture Beliefs: All things important to life are controlled by gods, and/or spirits. The more important things need human sacrifices to work, while less important need animal or plant sacrifice. Important: Sun, Rain. Less Important: Anything else.

Culture Social Ladder:
Slaves ---> Non-slave Farmers ---> Craftsmen ---> Hunters ---> Low Priests ---> Warriors ---> High Priests ---> god-Emperor

Description: The Balthar are a small tribe on the Yucatan Peninsula. They take many slaves and are disliked by many other tribes for it, but are more powerful than the closest tribes to them. They also believe in human sacrifice and it is a spectacle for the whole population performed by the high priests. They are known for powerful Obsidian swords. And brief unifications by legendary 'God Emperour'

you can get a BLANK map from most threads.. especially the MAP thread..

Yes, but I tried, will try again (And please make a culture and cut back on the sharpness.)

Got a map, will put civ zones in there. Red is most likely birth of civilization. Green will be almost immediate follow up.

This is a NES by Charles Li. [A given considering you posted this!:crazyeye:] As you know, Daft's Alternate Timeline Generator gave me an Idea. To combine a fresh start with the random but interlocking historical cultures of the Generator. [how is this any different from Daft's?] Of course, this will perhaps [be?] the first NES of mine that will get the first update so this is my idea. [no idea what that sentance means] Also, just so you know, my nickname is Chuck (Y) (Cheeses). I chose this because other more desirable names are taken. Ohwell. Enjoy the Show!

First we start with the Alternate Timeline Generator. As a guide. A tribe is around the size of 200 or 300 of similar culture and is usually lead by a minor chief. A Chiefdom is equal to OTL Powhatan, a group of tribes that recongize one chief and a lot of these high chiefs and their lands are in a Chiefdom area.

A Kingdom is usually a large area governed by at least 2 cities and many towns. City states are usually one cities.
[We don't need a guide telling us what a tribe is!

You should post Dafts rules..in this thread

I have no idea... PC padding?

Charles, people KNOW where cultures started off, just say that we must start there again, or you will struggle.

Don't worry about making a map with civ zones

Ok, the first civilizations will start off in the Nile Cradle. The Mesopotamian Cradle and Yellow River Cradle. Small chiefdoms and tribes will be else where. First Civilization on update 2. Thanks Lord Aiken. Reserve posts is that this will contain part 1 of the NES and possibly all other parts that contain BTs, which I rather do as three or four 50 year turns instead of a 150 or 250 turn.

EDIT: >.< at you Lord Aiken: actually a good idea but this will contain the whole world until a time the players deem right for IT to start. Either 1500 B.C. or 800 B.C. (Alex's Idea). At least they are complaints that can be continued. Also, it will be a discussion for the full NES after the generator. Also, right now you can discuss my faults and choose either to join this or to see me flounder due to lack of players.

Also, welcoming post edited and daft's rules will be copied with my editions if I deem fit.(wow, I feel...)

why not grab jalnes maps?

So, can we start or is it still being discussed. If you do start this, I'd be more than happy to join this, Daft's idea is fun, coming from a lazy-NESer and newbie NESer.

Well, It will start with The Generator, so please put cultures in! Then, later we will decide when will be go into intersesting times and what rule set I should use. Heck, if the most of you wants to, we can even do a lazy NES style. Of course, we need a rule set with at least 2 people supporting it to be put in the poll after the last Generator Era.

Lets just launch our own version of Daft's generator, and at some specific date, turn it into a real nes

That is what I am doing, launch our version but it ends somewhere the majoraty of players decides and then we end up with a fresh start that is more relistic and nations that don't have conflicting histories. It is still early but please post a culture!!!

Small area in northern India.

No Agriculture, barely any crafts, I like it!

If no one writes up a culture in a week I will start! And Maury will automatically own the world! If someone starts a culture then I will keep them where they are.

I will take an NPC after the second update or so. Subscribed.

Given that others probably will, I'm going to play this in a bit more of a gamey manner.

Chunherra: Neverwonagame3
Culture Economics: Tribes have their own stockpiles- they share significantly, but not everybody cooperates.
Culture Beliefs: Believe in lesser sprits as guardians of each tribe, and a set Great Sprits who are far more powerful.

I like what I am getting! Qoou, there won't be NPCs until IT times or unless both players who are responsible for a hybread union rejects it. (pardon spelling: updates will be much better!) If I get less than at least 2 per major cradle and 1 next to them i will not start.

EDITED

that makes at least 10 players. Better if we have 15 and best with 20 or so. The more the merrier!
No Vikings? No Huns? No Germanic tribes? No Bantu? No Mongols? No Turks? No Aryans? No Indo-European-language-speakers-that-migrated-into-Europe-and-displaced-the-Basques-Etruscans-etc?
