Pre-Thread: ImmacuNESV

Like governments or do you mean regions? Also maybe I missed it, but what is the status on military and things like nukes?

Well, my idea was to play as Wal Mart, centered around the new coast of the overflown Mississippi in the midwest, led by a lunatic CEO who considers himself to be the incarnation of the Horseman of Famine.

SKILORD, I don't think the walmart chain would survive. But you could play a successor.

Adrogans, old governments, new governments, warlord-states, extra-territorial corporate holdings, anything new you think fits well.

Nukes are mostly all gone. Either dug up for their fuel to power energy for a bit longer or used in nuclear war... (i'm thinking pakistan and india and maybe china got involved over energy supplies beneath kashmir that u mentioned on MSN)

Well my main interest was in the idea of playing as a megacorporation, especially one that could be based out of a big box store of that sort, if you think that premise is acceptable then I don't have to call it Wal Mart.

In that case Korea to be described in more detail later. Damn nuclear fallout.

Will detail out the MSN idea more.

@ SKILORD: Well, lets hear your history.

I am Likely playing as a Multinational Corporation, sprung from the unification of a number of major corporations...

Edit:
I hadn't gotten much further than that, but I figured the corporation would have gotten rich by providing necessities as the world went down the drain. Shipping food, energy, etc.

k - remember that a corporation by this time needs territory and land; this is a nation-type nes after all. It doesn't really exist as a chain to sell things at market anymore... it probably operates as a regular nation but with a ruling oligarchy now.

When you think about your nations, remember that they are probably surviving because they control some source of energy and manufacturing. what and where are those?

(I was talking about how it survived and prospered... by being too useful to die.)

As for land, I was thinking that perhaps it bought Land from various governments, who would have been happily unloading land in exchange for the money... and influence... wielded by the Corporations.

I was thinking of playing a confederacy of the Freemasons, the Amish, and the Quebec Liberation Front along the Great Lakes.

The Freemasons would have power because they maintain the locks keeping the rising seas from salinating the lakes. They have always guarded the knowledge of building walls using only human power, and that is suddenly as valuable as it was 600 years ago.

The Amish rose to power with the skyrocketing fuel prices. Suddenly, they went from being mocked to being revered for their preservation of traditional agriculture. They were responsible for feeding what remained of the East Coast. Of course, with power comes corruption, and they are twisted beyond what most would recognize from the turn of the 21st century. They are now ruled by the Council of Gabriel, the twelve Patriarchs of the "original tribes", and they are very strict about who they allow into positions of power.

The Quebec Liberation Front is used mostly to both pacify and antagonize the sole superpower to the north. Their extensive networks of spies, saboteurs, and propagandists have so far kept the Canadian Empire from seizing most of the waterways, although the Canadian Navy is the de facto ruler of Lake Superior.

Thats so outlandish and creative.

I was hoping to play a large Catholic faction in Northern Italy/Southern France/Southern Germany. Its leader would be a religious fanatic who believes that technology is the work of the Devil and that Global Warming etc. is the punishment of God. Ideally, it would be a large area but with very simple technology and armies. I'll PM you something tomorrow.

I'm thinking about either
a) a survivalist faction centred around pre-prepaired militia groups (such as the Boys Scouts)
b) a worlord culture in centeral Asia with dreams of a new Turkic-Mongol empire, were more traditional agriculture and herding kept people alive.
c) a populist movement in Africa planning to take advantage of the fact that a total collapse of modern tech had less impact on them.

Not being horribly original here but I'd like to play a militarized faction, where as the entire nation is technically in the military. Think something slightly similar, though not completely, to the Brotherhood of Steel.

I'm thinking either techno-barbarians or a Japanese conglomerate.

I'm thinking descendents of H&K corp in Germany, or something like that.

Remember the floating semi-continental trashmass of garbage in the center of the Pacific Ocean?

Take oil tankers, fill them up with humanity, and colonize it. Imagine it getting stabilized with air-filled oil crates and metal stitches. Moved by a mass of sails combined with rowing, and fed by skimming the algae growing around the mess of trash. :D

Storms.

Okay, start detailing your nation.

Include your government type, its leadership, highlights from its scientific, military, religious or ideological development and as complete a history as you are able to include. Please also include its current territory and what its source of energy and industry is.

I can’t guarentee you’ll get all these things but when it comes to writing the history of human populations, I want to be able to take into considerations your ideas so everything fits together nicely. Try to get this in really quickly too- preferably today as I think we’ll probably launch within 2 days or so at this rate.

Union of Korea
Limited Republic:
Spoiler :
Population split into two classes Citizen and Freeman. To become a citizen a freeman must either serve in the military (minimum of 10 year term or if injured in the line of duty) or buy their rights with a very hefty payment. Both ways are seen as serving the government and earning the right to have a say in how the nation is led (i.e. vote).

Every 3 years half of the senate’s seats are up for re-election. Only citizens can vote in these elections. The senate, whenever they want, votes in a Prime Minister who remains the executive of the Union of Korea until such time as the senate elects a new Prime Minister. To decide to elect a new Prime Minister requires two votes: A vote to hold an election (ousting the current PM) and a vote on who is to be the new PM.

The Prime Minister holds most of the power of government while they are in power (most PM’s last a little over a decade on average). The senate must ratify any law the PM tries to pass or any war the PM tries to begin, but just about anything else is directed by the PM.

Military:
Spoiler :
The military is very professional and highly trained. The North Korean Army and the Republic of Korea Army (including the remaining US forces) merged. This created a system with the North Korean Army turning into the main force of more lightly equipped and more numerous called Inmingun and the Republic of Korea's forces turning into the more elite and better equipped Daehanminguk (also controlling the bulk of the military vehicles). The US forces that were left in Korea joined in and became a (mostly hereditary) special forces group called the Juhanmigun.

The military is the main focus of the nation and as such is equipped and trained to the best attainable level. Practically all bio-fuels are reserved for military use to maintain functional vehicles. Any vehicles that could not be maintained were used for replacement parts or turned into either mobile weapons platforms (larger caliber weapons, smaller tanks/apcs) or stationary defenses to make the most of their military hardware (larger tanks).

Power Sources:
Spoiler :
The influence from the South brought Solar and Tidal power and the influence from the North brought the influence of Atomic power. Small bio-fuel production mainly for the military machine.

Background / History:
Spoiler :
The two Koreas had both always wanted to reunite but they both wanted to reunite on their own terms. However as the temperatures and sea levels rose and the power supply dwindled they both realized they needed to compromise and work together.

Strangely the North found itself gaining some traction in the South because they relied on manpower intensive farming and labor techniques which became increasingly important as the power supply dwindled. Eventually China cut off the supply to North Korea as it had its own issues and the North and South drew ever closer in the face of increased aggression from those outside the peninsula.

Over time as their cooperation grew the DMZ was removed and the mines cleaned up and all those forces redirected to prevent aggression from China mainly and from overseas otherwise.

Then in 2039 as desperation came to China as it collapsed it launched a war against the Korea’s to try and steal a little more life from them before the Chinese Dragon curled up and died. The Koreas had predicted this would come and had moved all their military to defend against such an attempt several years previously. They also jealously hoarded their remaining ‘modern’ weapons to prevent such an attempt and so were prepared when the last of the Chinese Communist Army tried to take over the Koreas. However it was a near thing as the massive amounts of infantry came upon the defended border in the North. Several times some of the Chinese forces broke through the lines but were ultimately pushed back until the Koreas were able to push the Chinese back.

This event coalesced North and South Korea into one finally unified nations though rampant militarism and the lack of resources led to a completely new system of government for the new Union of Korea.

Since then the government has been very militaristic and aggressive to maintain their status and experience in war. The military is purely volunteer, but because of the political system there is no shortage of recruits attempting to join and complete training as its one of the few ways for the average freeman to gain citizenship and improve their prospects.

Religion:
Spoiler :
Most of the nation does not practice any religion. The practice of religion is not specifically banned, but generally frowned upon by most.
