Other poll options that i would have added are:
Air
Aphex Twin
Apollo 440
Enter Shikari (if you're streching the genre)
Klaxons Kraftwerk
Massive Atack
Primal Scream
Quite astounding that both Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre are missing from that list. Everyone likes Jean-Michel Jarre, even if they refuse to admit it.
I have been listening to a ridiculous amount of Andrew Lahiff recently - he has a lot of tracks freely downloadable from his website, and it is very good calming stuff.
No, I don't like Jarre; there's nothing original in his 'work' (nor in Daft Punk) - unlike some of Kraftwerk, which, indeed, should also have been in there.
From the poll, Daft Punk, but why is there no Kraftwerk to vote for? I'm no big fan of either, but listening to Kraftwerk in the background is better than listening to Daft Punk in the background.
And how broad is this Electronic Music Genre definition?
Any music made electronically, how many of the instruments, all of them? Is just one enough?
According to that wikipedia article:
Electronic music is music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production.[1] In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology.[2] Examples of electromechanical sound producing devices include the telharmonium, Hammond organ, and the electric guitar. Purely electronic sound production can be achieved using devices such as the Theremin, sound synthesizer, and computer.
Through this definition, any song using an Electric Guitar could, at least technically I guess, be classified as "Electronic Music".
That is another topic altogether though, the use of broad vs narrow genres.
But you can see my dilemma here. Electronic Music is just a TOO broad genre to have ONE preferred Musician in. Though still know kinda what you mean .
SpoilerPhilosophical rambling about why it might be that I have a hard time deciding :
And when it comes to choices I guess I don't have the maturity or maybe I'm just not able to use the emotional system of my brain as well as perhaps I should be
More research seems to be needed on the emotional factor into decision making, but there is an example about a patient who basically lost all his emotions and then could spend hours deciding what song to listen to, what to eat to breakfast, etc.
Tried to find it, but I can't, I have an article in a paperback magazine somewhere, but couldn't find that either.
Tried to find proper articles, but you have to pay for more than the preview >_<.
Ugh, all scientific articles and all literature should be free and available online. And the authors be government subsidized (like how scientists often are, at least here, or by some organization) They could set it up at theGreatLibrary.com (which someone has purchased of course). Information and education should always be free, so that the people can be free. Ok enough hippy mumbo-jumbo rant. Unless if you count the rest as that
But basically, emotions are used a lot when we make decisions.
Some simple decisions only require our logical thinking, but complex choices, like deciding whether to move to live somewhere else, what type of education you want, whether to leave your partner, or like this one to decide what you prefer out of various alternatives choices (which can either be a simple or complex choice).
These types of choices are usually best done with your gut feeling.
Even if you don't believe in this, like if you think you always make decisions based on logic. (And logic is always there making the choice, even if it's your emotions that sorted out all the variables to make it simpler for the logical mind).
If you search your feelings, you know this is true
I don't remember the exact figures, but they translated this to bytes (or maybe bits) / second. And the logical mind could "only" process something like 60 bytes per second, while the emotional system could process millions of bytes per second. (really unsure about those figures and how they tested it)
And I believe you can train up this connection between logical and emotional "deciding" systems of the brain.
And to train this up you have to be aware of the decisions you make and why you make them. Sorta figure out "who you are", what you are capable of, and essentially being self-aware.
And when you know what you want, you know what you want! - Basically good Confidence means easier decision making
But I guess my point is, you can have many favorite artists and songs.
And I like to call my self an all-eater when it comes to music. And by that I mean I like many genre's and I don't really care what the genre is of a song. I only care about if I like it or not.
Also, I tend to require many sessions to judge whether I like a song or not. Some are easier than others of course, but others need to grow on you.
So, I've learned not to judge too soon. And there is also the time factor; You just can't listen to every song in the world multiple times while also trying to decide which is your favorite artist or song in the world. It's just impossibibble!
And my memory sucks. So I can forget that I liked a song, and remember it again once I accidentally hear it once more. (Isn't smell and hearing great? )
So, sometimes you just have to make the choice. You can always rectify it later once you find something better. And my favorites tend to be highly fluctuating.
But ok, here's me trying... On to who (whom?) my "Preferred" electronic musician is;
It's none in the poll currently, though I like songs from most of them (unsure if I have heard songs from all, might have - memory here, or I just never heard/read the artist name in connection with hearing it.
Man the choice is hard, but compiling a list here of some of my favorite Electronica Musicians:
Lately I'm also listening a lot to Lady Gaga and Shakira. But I wouldn't say any of them are my prefered Electronica musician - because I don't think you meant to mean this wide spectrum of music.
(Lady Gaga is actually listed as Pop, Dance, Electronica on wikipedia) - Shakira's latest album have quite a few gems, I've especially grown attached to:
So to shamelessly plug my brother, which also is one of my preferred Electronic Musicians actually, Avenixis. And also our friend who calls himself Encke Division who makes music and sometimes collaborate with my brother.
Here are some of his songs/projects (they are mostly demos, and unfinished but still showing great promise IMO).
SpoilerSome songs by Avenixis and some featuring Encke Division :
Ok I am done rambling, and almost going far of this topic. I hope someone enjoyed what I wrote/shared at least (and I won't mind those who consider it tl;dr)
If you like this kind of music, don't forget check out my brothers stuff which I linked above.
Disclaimer: I blame this post on my sinusitis, oh and on the spring, which is the best time of the year.
I have to say, I have developed a penchant for Pendulum over the last few weeks. Slam is a good song, but I much prefer Showdown (which I would embed but for the language).
There's no Kraftwerk, Zombie Nation, Tiësto, Jean Michel Jarre (Oxygéne... I have the CD somewhere), Eiffel 65... not to mention a wide array of hundreds of other DJs/composers/whatever.
What about DJ Nate? Or DJ Skryker? This poll is narrow and unrealistic.
