The EU has had a long and violent history. The only reason they are nice now is becaue they aren't in charge

Yes but Europe has changed... America seem to have not...

Not really. Europe is still got that evil streak in them. They just don't use it because they know America won't like it.....

I don't know, Europe doesn't roll over little countries in their sleep like America does. ;)

If Europe was aggressive, yet more interested in pleasing America than being aggressive, wouldn't there be massive support for the war in Iraq in Europe because it's a chance to both be aggressive and improve relation with America?

So far no one has voted for "pan-Islamia." Hope they aren't scared of the public poll .

I think some sort of European Union type organization would be great for Arab/Islamic countries, though I'm not sure how soon we'd see it.

Hopefully there will be greater global integration and the UN will play a more important role.

No one country can control the whole world.
A country is a basically arbitrary thing--X number of people who draw a border around themselves and pick out a neat-o design for a flag. Various factions compete for control of the U.S. or the European Union or whichever other part of the planet, and from time to time, this or that faction does in fact succeed in controlling the whole. Moving from controlling a nation to the whole planet is merely a single rather large step; not too many have tried, hence we haven't seen anybody succeed.

Yet.

What I see in the U.S. right now is not a nation that can't control the whole planet. Rather, I see a nation that simply isn't trying.

If the U.S. were to really try, we would have a pretty darned good chance of success. The catch being that "really try" means the U.S. would have to toss aside its veneer of morality--and be willing to do things such as fire willingly on civilians, completely flake on human rights, imprison and execute dissidents arbitrarily, launch nukes against non-military targets, and the like.

I'll pass, thank you. I don't want the entire planet that badly. :D

I wonder why so many foreigners say that?
Ignorance, which is the most common personal attribute of humans.

The EU has a long and violent history? what wars has the EU waged?

By contrast the USA has yet to spend 50 years without a war and the list of US Wars and Massacres if by far longer than the one of the EU.

@Basketcase: And just how are the US supposed to survive a Nuclear Exchange with Russia? the world wont be united through war as long as WMD exist, nor by peace before atheist will finally become the majority.

Canada clearly. Everything in the world that needs to be settled can be settled in one of three ways: Hockey, Lacrosse, and Curling. Or possibly coffee drinking and timbit-eating tournaments WHILE playing hockey.

 That's a good one! :goodjob:

Oh... Wait... You were being serious?

That makes it even funnier! :rotfl:

Tell that to the women before WWI (and, to a smaller degree, after).
Tell that to the victims of the Red Scare.
Tell that to the 'witches' at Salem.
Tell that to the homosexuals.
Tell that to the illegal immigrants.
Tell that to the children employed in coal mines in the 19th century.
Tell that to the Southern States.
Tell that to the African Americans.
Tell that to the KKK.
Tell that to Vietnam.
Tell that to Iraq.
Tell that to the Bay of Pigs.
Tell that to the secret drug experiments by the gov't in the 60's.
Tell that to the Indians.
Tell that to the Japanese-American people in the internment camps during WWII.
Tell that to the Bloods and Crips.
Tell that to the protesters at Kent State University.
Tell that to the inmates at Guantanamo Bay.
Tell that to the 14 489 people murdered by the USA on legal pretense since 1608.
Tell that to the 214 000 people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who died during a certain event.

That is most of what I can think of right now, from the top o my head. I'm sure I'll think of more later.

My point is, the US is not without a stained history. In fact, it is pretty blood-dripping, and some of it (Death Penalty, I'm looking at *you*) is still going on. Unlike Europe, which learned from its experiences in the first half of the 20th century, and has formed an ever more coherent entity in order to avoid further bloodshed. All of which, btw., happened before the EU was formed at Maastricht in 1992, barring a few unfortunate events such as the bombs in London and Madrid - not done by the EU or any of its nations - and the Balkan troubles.

Tell that to the victims of the Red Scare.
What victims? I dont recall any real witch trials or people going to jail for being communist, maybe on other charges but just for the philosophy.

Tell that to the 'witches' at Salem.
Your being ignorant. At the time those were british colonies and not america is in today. And if you really want to be stupid, there was religious persecution in europe at the time.

Tell that to the homosexuals.
Ok where have the witchhunts and lynchings for homosexuals been? I must of missed them.

Tell that to the illegal immigrants.
What about them?
Tell that to the children employed in coal mines in the 19th century.
1 word "Hypocrite".
Tell that to the Southern States.
What about them?
Tell that to the African Americans.
Yah like europeans never practiced slavery.
Tell that to the KKK.
Yes the untited states is represented by a crazy cult.
Tell that to Vietnam.
Maybe one of the only real truths in your whole post.

Tell that to Iraq.
Which your E.U volunteered in and sent troops for? :p
Tell that to the Bay of Pigs.
Do you even know what the bay of pigs was?
Tell that to the secret drug experiments by the gov't in the 60's.
??? Have you been reading propoganda?

Tell that to the Indians.
Tell that to europeans also. It wasnt just americans that persecuted indians. What about the spanish or british in america?
Tell that to the Japanese-American people in the internment camps during WWII.
Whats that have to do with warmongering?
Tell that to the Bloods and Crips.
Are you trying to be stupid?
Tell that to the protesters at Kent State University.
Umm okay?
Tell that to the inmates at Guantanamo Bay.
Another truth out of the BS. Not very insightful on your part.
Tell that to the 14 489 people murdered by the USA on legal pretense since 1608.
Ignoring your european history are we?
Tell that to the 214 000 people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who died during a certain event.
Tell that to the British who firebombed german cities.
That is most of what I can think of right now, from the top o my head. I'm sure I'll think of more later.
Learn to argue please.

And neither is europe mr hypocrite. Thanks for embarrasing yourself, it was too easy to argue with you.

Calling yourself the EU does not get rid of your history.

Actually, the inability to recognise sarcasm is why people should not vote for whatever place you're from. ;)

Was it sarcasm, or just bombast from someone whose opinions are similar, if not quite so unrefined?

I must have mistaken him for you. You've had your share of blindly patriotic posts. Although recently I've only seen posts about specific things, rather than India in general.

Canada should control the world in this hypothetical situation.

And before everyone starts with the , this is a HYPOTHETICAL situation.

So why my selection? Because I am biased toward my own country, just as most people are.

Im not the only one!

Thats two - were still behind Lichtenshtein though.
