Dachs, since you seem so keen on making ancillary maps, and you haven't placed any cities on the map besides capitals, areas of urban density and/or productivity would be really useful, especially since the warfare of most states involves raiding such regions.

Here are the requests by nation (updated). Each first, second or thrid choice is in [ ]. Two names in a [ ] means two people choose that nation for the same choice. ie NK and supermath both choose Cambrian empire as their first choice, but no one else even selected it. Please let me know if you see an error.

Re: Shadowbound
Tuesday, according to the OP.

Fixed a mistake.

Yeah and when reffering to cities by their Hellenized names it might help to mention what they are in OTL.

Mmmmmmmmnot really. This isn't exactly a fresh start. What did you have in mind?
I was thinking as starting in the area that Mali occupied, perhaps being like a colony/vassal state of another foriegn power.

Hekatompylos is on Wikipedia. True story. You didn't look it up.

Okay. I'm actually not keen on placing cities and so forth on this map since they're probably going to a) take a long time and b) be inaccurate, which is a Deadly Sin, and am in fact too lazy to figure out a better way, so I'll just list stuff? I mean, it's most of the usual suspects to be entirely honest...

Eastern and northwestern Sicilian coasts, the eastern Spanish coast, the Loire Valley, the northern Isère Valley, the middle Rhine, Picardy, Campania, northeastern Tunisia, the Crimea and Kerch, the Black Sea coast between the Danube and Gallipoli, the southern coast of the Marmara, the Vardar River valley, Attica and the Peloponnese, western Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Babylonia, Syria, Lebanon, the Palestinian coast, the Nile Delta and Valley, northern Khorasan, the eastern Amu Darya valley, Gandhara, the Sindh coast, Kannauj and the Lower Gangetic Plain, the western Deccan coast, the Malwa Plateau, the Huanghe basin, the Yangzi mouth (ish), Shu, northwestern Korea, the Pearl River mouth, and southwestern Korea.

Some of them don't have an OTL equivalent. And that just requires standard background research that you should do when playing a country. But if it's really obscure, that might be a good idea.
Got any specific questions on that Karalysia? I fully intend to footnote OTL naming conventions in the updates for locations that are weirdly/confusingly/differently named. Which is most of them!

Ah, no. Not messing around in sub-Saharan Africa this BT, sorry; I'm not really interested in modding your little corner of the world just so you can play with yourself out there. :p

I have created a handy guide to help you reach the English-language version of that page.
Spoiler handy guide :

Chrome has themes, dude...
I can't believe you have OT favorited and on your bar....
I actually need to reorganize those! But not OT cause I use it a lot.

Making an application for Yamato as first choice (I know, Birdy's claimed it already, still have to try.) and Aorsi as second.

And now for the part that I hatehatehatekefkahate, having to find something that I actually managed to pull off reasonably in my entire NEsing history.

Strengths: Relentless*, single-minded, reasonable story writer when I'm in the mood,

Successes in NEsing: The only ones I can think of worth mentioning are my creation of the TSA (Tarunist States Atlantis, note the lack of 'of') in one of das' earlier NESes, TSA's survival as the only Tarunist nation in the world when the rest of them were destroyed, and then my occasional success in my Finnish uprisings in managing to secure independence for Finland on a few occasions.

*I believe das even gave me an award in one of his NESes for rising up in constant revolt and fighting hopeless defensive wars without giving up at all. :ack:

Application

1st Choice: Seleukid Empire
2nd Choice: Kingdom of Aigyptos
3rd Choice: Tantan Qaganate (although I would REALLY prefer one of the first two)

Experience: Well...you messaged me.
Strengths: Builder (Small or wrecked countries seeking to regain past glories: GIMMIE), I would like to think that I TRY new things, and don't always approach things with the same play style but I can't say for certain.

Most Proud moment is still the first LINES.

Quick question. Carthage was never sacked by Rome ATL. Am I to assume that rump-Carthage was annexed by the Seleucids when they went on their Western Mediterrannean joyride? Also, is it intact? Same question for Rome, Taras, Capua.

Also, I'm curious if there are any residual Latin and Punic senate-style elements in the government. Continuing along this line, how exactly does the Panorman government work? It's the only extant "true" Republic in the oikoumene as far as I can see, and I find it highly unlikely that there weren't any holdovers from the Roman occupation of Sicily in terms of government structures.

Yes.

Yes.

Was annexed, is not intact.
Thlayli said:
Was annexed, is intact. Isn't as important to the Chaonians or to trade in general as Barion [Bari] is.
Thlayli said:
Was annexed, remained intact but has recently become rather depopulated. Much less important or interesting than Neapolis.

You have a boule that works more or less like the Roman Senate.

The holdovers from the Roman occupation chiefly remain in the form of the executive, the archon, which is a position elected by all citizens of the poleis of the island of Sicily. Has a one-year term. The archon is much more a figure like the consuls of Roman oligarchy than the strategoi of Achaian oligarchy in that he must push all initatives save military operations (instead of having a lot more leeway in foreign affairs, say) through the boule; this does not mean that he is 'just' a general, since he is supposed to preside over boule meetings for which he is present, and tends to wield significant influence outside of his formal military position. Overseas territories are governed in most cases (Aphrike and most of Italy) as provinces with vaguely-Roman Republican-style governors, save in the position of most Megale Hellenic poleis which tend to have greater autonomy (much as they did in the Hellenistic kingdoms) and in one or two cases (Rhegion, Neapolis) are treated as "Sicilian poleis" for the purposes of law and elections. The bouleutai are also elected, instead of chosen by lot as was the custom in, say, Athens; that is because they are governing an entire state instead of a single polis. They also serve for terms originally standardized to one Olympiad, though that was extended to five years (conveniently for this NES!) not long after Sophism was formally adopted by the state.

For the archon, that term limit is semi-inconvenient for getting anything done ever. Do they have some mechanism for proroguing the term limits in the event of emergency or an extended campaign? I suppose I'll need to come up with a new leader every turn then. Meh.

Also, let me guess, previous archons become disgruntled strategoi with a bone to pick with whoever replaced them, resulting in internal instability and constant jockeying for supremacy within the army. The navy I'm assuming is much more efficient, though surprised I don't have a Nesiarchy; it's thoroughly under the thumb of the dominant mercantile clique then? (Btw, that term is not used in English. At all. As in, google results for it turn up this thread. It's basically a naval command structure though?)

My application as Nanyue has been PM'ed.
