Project SYNTHESIS

No problem, lol. I enjoy it.

Haven't committed yet cuz I'm playing a Safavid game right now (can't commit while playing), and before that I loaded one American start and one Dutch start. I'm aiming for the UHV. Some notes I've made:

--Spawn a Catholic missionary with the Italians
--Russia needs a respawn, it collapses too often with the Mongol Horde
--There needs to be a human style collapse for the Mongols (reduced down to China) at some point
--Orthodox spread rates need to be lowered for Italy- right now they have Rome's decently high values, which make sense for Rome but not Italy
--Safavid color is too Arab-like
--Buddhism spreads to Qandahar far, far too often. Usually because Arabs don't make it that far, and instead either go for Anatolia or veer upwards towards Central Asia. Do something about that.
--Remove elephants from Iran after a certain date
--Change Shia Holy Office art to have Shia symbol instead of Sunni symbol
--Make Silk route more likely to spread to cities with Tea and Coffee
--Change Shia spread mechanisms to check REGIONS of plots for cities to spread Shia to rather than specific cities.

I'm gonna keep updating this as I progress through my game.

Are you are having trouble balancing mongol conquerors with Russia? It might be an idea to have Russia spawn much later, and have the Mongol conquerors work against a sacrificial Kievan Rus minor civ.

I dont know how this would interfere with your plans, but it would stop Russia collapsing all the time, while still giving the Mongols an easy entry into Eastern Europe.

1547, I think that's what I'll do.

A quick screenie. The Empire of Shah Abbas I:

Missing only parts of the Caucusus, as compared to real life. However I'm not gonna pursue that for fear of collapsing Turkey; somehow Constantinople become Italian and Italy and its master Germany are gangbanging Turkey.
Does Baghdad flip own spawn? Great color scheme by the way :goodjob: The caucasus part could be solved by removing that one mountain like I suggested in the DoC thread, so Tabriz gets founded there and flips to Persia.

Did you change anything to the horde event, because I've never seen them successfully collapse Russia. What did you fill in for Mongolia in AI_targetCityValue()? I've got this:
Code:
		case MONGOLIA:
			iValue += std::max(1, ((GC.getMapINLINE().maxStepDistance() * 2) - GC.getMapINLINE().calculatePathDistance(pNearestCity->plot(), pCity->plot()))/10);
			break;

Taurus- This is what I was referring to when I said that I had ideas for Russia

Leoreth- Since I was just merging that file, I know the line is identical. In Synthesis the mongols usually conquer at least china, central asia, and west Siberia. After that they either form the Ilkhanate and conquer to Delhi, or continue in Russia. Sometimes they manage both, which is what you see above. Admittedly their chance of conquering Korea is low- I've only seen them do it a few times.

Russia doesn't always collapse though.

My guess is the new resources which are concentrated in the east. But other than the minor difference they make, I don't see why the Mongols should conquer any less in DoC.

And no, Baghdad doesn't flip. I just finished conquering it. And thanks (on the color scheme). I pretty much got it right by luck, since that was my first and only time editing colors.

I'll work on the Caucasus but I don't think I'll flip it. No incentive to fight with Turkey, then, and that was a large part of adding the Safavids.

:yup:

Haha

Originally I thought it was a bad idea...before the Mongol Conquerors courtesy of Leoreth. Afterwards I realize it's essential.

I thought it would be more interesting for trading if there were less. There can be one in Southern Spain next to Seville and a second one in the East next to Valencia representing Spain's dominance of olive production. Another one in Naples, another in any of the Mediterranean islands like Sardinia, Sicily, Crete. Another near Sparta. One in the Levant possibly, and another around Tunis. That's a lot of places, more than there are tea, tobacco, or coffee places at 600 AD. Maybe four possibly even five places would be perfect I think.

I like natural gas too. Here's some interesting data that would help placement.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_natural_gas_fields

Linkman, what do you think of the suggestions made while you were gone to possibly add olives or natural gas?

I don't think I'll add olives, but probably natural gas. When I get to some map fixing anyways. And I want to do something about the relative abundance of fossil fuels. Way too common, IMO. I have a good idea of what...but more on this later.

Work is gonna slow for the next two weeks. A hurricane is about to hit me and power will probably go out. Then I'm going away for a bit, and then school starts.

Load a game as the Dutch. Play normally for the first turn. The second turn will give you the option of switching to the Iranians.

Some changes I've made so far:

--Spawned a missionary (religion depends on dominant religion of Italy) with the Italians
--Added three workers with the Safavid respawn
--Added Hindu missionaries for Marathas
--Chinese Ming rebirth in 1368, Korean Joseon rebirth in 1392, dependent on Mongol stability- if Mongolia controls at least one city in their core, they respawn with if Mongols are shaky or lower; otherwise they respawn regardless
--Orthodox spread rates lower for Italy, higher for Rome (implemented a system where the spread rates vary before and after rebirth- a few other civs were also changed around)
--Elephants removed from Iran in 600 AD start, removed in 450 AD in 3000AD as well
--Made Silk route more likely to spread to cities with Tea, Ivory, Spices; decreased gold yield from silk route slightly; increased number of cities silk route can spread to
--Changed Shia spread mechanisms to check REGIONS of plots for cities to spread Shia to rather than specific cities.
--Restored conditional birth of Italy, which Leoreth had removed for some reason

I'll commit soon, provided Hurricane Irene doesn't steal my power (as it already has a few times tonight)

Instead of making It a one time event why don't you make it recurring or even that Chinese declare independence anytime after 1400 if the Mongols are unstable. Also can u make them like a complete rebirth like the Italians

I could do that. Somewhat of a hassle though.

A complete rebirth? Meaning new UHV's, UP, UB, UU, etc?

My bad, I just meant a new flag and new tech rate and hammer values to represent th eventual decline of China. a complete rebirth sounds interesting, something u can consider later on if u like the idea urself.

Ps. I heard Irene is pretty bad. Take Care

Honestly I find reborn China and Korea too uninspiring for new everything, but I can work on the tech rate, hammer rate, free buildings, flags, art, colors, etc.

And it's not that bad yet, considering it hasn't made landfall. It will, however, pick up by 9, when it finally meets land. Thanks :)

Now that I consider the effort you'll put in; maybe u should do the bare essentials. Do u think, Leoreth is adding or not Ming respwn; if he is u can just merge it.

Good to know that ur safe. Hope the storm dies down.

Dunno whether Leoreth will bother with a complete respawn for Ming China; he hasn't even done that with the Safavids, so I don't see why he would anytime soon. As for me, I'm only doing essentials right now including a few rate modifiers. I'll revisit the Ming later

And at this point, some things take as much time to winmerge as they would for me to write them myself, because the further our code diverges, the more difficult it becomes to use winmerge. Usually I end up merging by hand, which is also no fun. This is expecially true of XML files, which winmerge sucks at merging.

Made up my mind: I'm now working on "semi-scripted" resurrections that occur in ranges of turns instead of a specific turn. For the moment it'll only apply to China and Korea. Later I'm gonna make it so that just about any civ (except the ones that really died off for good, like Babylon) can respawn provided certain conditions are met. No more of the nonsensical "You can only respawn after nationalism" business.

Leoreth, is doing something similar (or exact) so u might not have to do it after all.

Also if u want I can try to redo ur China and India map.

I'm already done, actually. There's just a CTD I'm trying to work out first and then I'll SVN. It may or may not be related to the new feature. Have you played any games yet to the 1800s or so? Have there been any crashes?

And I like your maps in the DoC thread. I'll just borrow them from there.

No, actually i havent been playing the past few days but i will try to do finish the Safavid game i started tomorrow.
