Project SYNTHESIS

Linkman,

Have you considered replacing continents with provinces. I dont know much between or even if they are totally different mechanics but if they are similar or replacements for one another? Then wouldn't it be better to add provinces to help the Ai with expansion?

Continents (called "areas" in the code) are an important aspect of AI logic, it governs their settling and war efforts and impacts trade and how to use transports, among other things.

Provinces (like in SoI) are nothing special really, they work much like the core or victory rectangles Rhye defines in RFC, except that they don't need to be rectangular and divide up the whole map.

But somehow I rarely (almost never) seen a civs go out just 1 tile of their border province in SoI.. like they're scared or somewhat...

What do you mean by "go out"? AI units leave the border provinces all the time. If you're referring to settlers, SoI has much stricter settler maps than RFC, so the AI only settle cities that are definitely "theirs" which usually coincides with the core/border provinces.

ya..
they leave their border province, but they don't attack or settle anything outside their core/border province..

I've seen many civs attacking cities outside their border provinces. But they don't declare war against civs there.

The Arab UHV is now unwinnable, it appears holy shrines get destroyed on conquest and of course you can't rebuild them. Also since I had two shrines (I built the Sunni one and the Hindu one miraculously survived) I WBed in the Zoroastrian one (to the holy city of course) and then pressed end turn, I didn't win...

The UHV will be replaced when Linkman updates to the newest version of DOC but why do religous shrines get destroyed; is this something you did (on purpose) Linkman?

It's not a DoC feature, at least not intentionally.

I'm annoyed, as the Indonesians I killed the Dutch so I was like woot no invasions, but then I got hit by the Portuguese troops spawning in Singapore (I know this because the guards were bumped a couple tiles) and then by the Spanish spawning in Zuba (Manila tile, no rename) (guard was also bumped a few squares).

*whines* It's not fair!

I know what's causing this. Sorry about that.

I'll try to do something about this.

What do you mean ull try to do something? This is a part of history and gameplay. There's no reason to modify it just because he was not prepared for the Portuguese and Spanish? Hopefully next time he will anticipate it and hopefully react accordingly; its like me saying i was not prepared for the Spanish Conquers Event?

No, I mean them landing DIRECTLY on the city tile. I'm thinking the current algorithm should be modified to find a better plot if the current plot is a city.

Exactly :cringe:

EDIT: The tobacco that spawns in China spawns on a Pigs, is this intentional?
