Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I'm pretty sure that they don't get extra units but I'm not very knowledgeable about multiplayer. When you think about it, it's hard to see how else it could work.

Can someone explain how unit maintenance works? I've got BUG and some of the hover text doesn't make sense to me.

Is it possible to load a save game with a different random seed?

In the Custom Game options, turn on New Random Seed on Reload. However, I don't think there's a way to modify that for a game already underway.

AFAIK there´s three different types of unit maintenance:

Numbers
Pacifism military penalty
Supply

The first is rarely a bother, since you have to pay nothing for a certain number of units related to your population size. The Vassalage civic cuts further down on it. It can however become a problem if you whip hard for units.
The second one is the penalty from Pacifism, not sure about the minutiae other than that a huge military is no good idea financially.
The third one you pay for units outside your borders. 4 or so units are free, I don´t know the exact formula how much you pay for each one going over the limit.

If you have several saves of the same game you could go to an earlier one and call the random seed via working some resource-less mines, sending some units auto-exploring and/or conducting combat.

From my observation...No. Your save saves the seed which will be played out during the next turn. But if you're trying to get a different combat, goody, etc. result then change the outcome by reassigning to what the next random number generator (RNG) result is applied.

For example, you reload and know you're going to pop a goody for 'low gold' and then lose your scout to a bear; with the bear having just 0.1 health remaining, and then win a combat vs. wolves without taking damage. Change the order of events, as well as, give a unit an auto-explore order (even if for one turn). The seed will remain the same but the RNG results will be applied in a different order.

Some large mods require 50,000 or more mouse clicks to complete. I have wondered if there are any shortcuts to the endless repetition of building in the city screen. Every city requires the same basic 100-200 buildings which require endless clicl.click.click. which evolves into click....click....click... after a few hundred turns.
Does anyone know of a solution?
I wonder if a small check box in the corner of each picture would offer a solution like select all or something. Or how about a way to remove an individual building picture from the city screen
, one that you never use.
Any ideas??? Anyone.

Why are my imports exports always in the minus?

"Negative number means other nations are making more money from trade route to you the you are from them."

Do you have open borders? With open borders you get more money from trade routes (you have better cities for trading).

Has U.N. closed your borders?

Have you invested in buildings that improve your trade routes, like harbors, maybe your opponents have?

Remember that high level AIs get some bonuses.

On the city tab you can shift + select or CTRL + select multiple cities and assign the same build to them. Otherwise games with >50 cities would be largely unplayable. Or which mod are you talking about?

If a civ demands a tribute from you (and you give in) does that count as a "you traded with our enemy" modifier for another civ? Is there an article which goes into the specifics of the Diplomacy modifiers?

There are two types of tribute:

1) To end a war
2) A threat

The first is simply the tribute you have to give to an AI because that one has better war success and overall is stronger than you. It won't let the war end for free. That tribute works outside the system of worst enemy. Thanks god the devs had senses to consider that. Otherwise, you would screw your diplomacy just to end an unwanted war.

The second is simply a beg but now called a demands because the AI is stronger than you and is CAUTIOUS. That one, you have the decision to refuse, thus can cause diplo hit in the category of worst enemy.

Notice when two AI's are worst enemy of one AI, for that brief moment, there is no worst enemy.

@Unforcederror, Thank you for your response. Ok, so I can group cities in the cities tab but how does that highliting effect the build que?
You can highlight the cities and select a build, set a build queue, or set automated city actions just as you would for a single city on the bottom of the screen, but this will apply to all selected cities.

@oldnoob You can also use the domestic advisor via the F1 button and hold shift to select multiple cities and choose their build queue: hold control to build previous item or hold shift to build later item hope it does helps You cheers :)

Well thanks for trying to help but I guess they do it differently in the C2C mod as the function you describe is not apparent to me.I will try to post on thier thread for the answer and hope that I do not get my head bitten off again.

@old noob If You are playing C2C mod than I'm no position to tell You how does it works (because I've never played it) but the invaluable help that UnforcedError gave You should be of use and another good tip ^^ : If You want to set a city to build one item indefinitely (for example: - one military unit - press n' hold 'Alt' button while You choose it and the city will indefinitely build that item for You ;) cheers

Sorry but which uttons do I use for moving something which is third to first without removing the others and which button to copy and paste a list of buildings queue from one city to another?

Thanks.
