Thanks, one more. Where do you take advantage of slavery? Can't figure out how to use it.

In the city screen, there is a button in the bottom right that has an arrow on it and says Hurry <what you're building>. If it's greyed out, you can mouse over it to find out why (e.g. not enough population).

In case you still can't find it, it's in the city screen, on the panel of buttons to the left of the minimap. Second from top, on the left.

What factors determine how likely a spy is to be captured in another civ's territory? (When just moving/standing around, NOT when performing a mission.) What are the numbers behind it?

Small issue about powerplants, are you sposed to be penalised +2 unhealthiness for just having power even if its clean one? As the descriptions of em mentions nothing like it, yet it gives penalty :/

Yes, that's normal (and confused the hell out of me the first time I saw it, too). A city gets +2 unhealthiness for having power, no matter what the source. Coal plants give an additional +2 unhealthiness.

ok tx for clearing that one up then, was already thinking my game was bugged or something

Thanks. I'm sure glad there's a place to ask these silly little questions without any hassle. Appreciated.

You can read about the interception formula in this thread: Spy detection.

The first post is about interception odds when moving through another civ's territory. If you're having trouble reading the mathematical formulas, then maybe my post in that tread, a few posts after the first post can help.

There are more interesting formulas in that thread related to espionage costs and odds of getting captured.

what does "ratio with" mean when meeting a foreign leader?

Where do you see this? Screenshot maybe?

What's the list of all the starting techs a civ can have in vanilla civ 4 (with the latest patch)?

You can find that in the civilopedia, just check the leader information.

Maybe one of the files mentioned in the Civilization IV: Reference can help you pick a leader (or find other information).

Pretty much all mods are done for BtS 3.17 nowadays. Jeelen's Master of Orion and Deanej's Strek Trek mods are two such examples, both based off the official Final Frontier mod. I'm sorry I can't help you with any vanilla mods.

Is there a comprehensive guide to trade routes anywhere? I want to understand how their yields are determined, etc.

Any way to fix MAF error for Steam version?

The most common occurence of the MAF error is when you play on maps that are a bit large for your computer and you get into the late game. This is especially true when you use mods that add lots (of graphics like units and buildings) to the game.

To suppress the problem, you should do anything that increases the memory of your PC and reduces the memory use of your PC.

Things that you can do to increase the memory of you PC:
-Buy more physical memory and/or a better graphics card. For the huge map normally available in Civ4, you'll need about 2 GB of physical memory in the late game on a windows XP machine if you're playing with graphically demanding mods.
-Use the computer settings described in these 2 threads, depending on the operating system you use:

I Fixed The Maf Error... Here Is How!!
-Increase the virtual memory of your PC

Things you can do to reduce the memory use of your PC:
-Make sure that not a lot of other useless programs are loaded when your PC starts
-Don't use other programs while playing civ
-Reduce the graphics setting in civ

Furthermore, you can use programs that clean your PC. Most people have PC's that are infected with all kinds of stuff that slows them down and have fragmented hard disks.
