Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

On noble it's easy to get domination/conquest on continents pre-1900, if you count getting conquest and having dom land/pop as well. Just get combustion/industrialism/flight, start getting transports/marines/fighters, and go conquering. On noble you can get this pre-1900.

But for some reason, I can play maybe 10-15 turns and tell myself, "this is pointless." Then I quit and reload the save the next day. It's fatigue, but for no real reason.

There is nothing wrong with getting tired of the play, saving the game and then reloading the save another day to continue, which is what you describe. That is the way that I always play. I never finish a game in one sitting and I nearly always finish my games. Sometimes it may be days before I come back to a game and load the most recent save. Always I do this many times before finishing a game. A CIV game need not be played in one sitting.

Yes, and furthermore, it's your leisure time--spend it however you wish, because unless you star in a reality TV show, you earned it.

Yes, all my cities have it turned off.

EDIT: I double checked. It's turned off. What I've noticed is that it does not always happen, it just did start producing an archer after producing a settler, but the game asked me what to do after producing a missionary. It's extremely annoying, especially when a couple of cities finishes production at once and then I have to find them fast before the notification disappears or I end up building useless nonsense.

Hmmm... I think I know what's happening.

There is an option in-game called "build military units indefinitely" or something like that. I don't remember if it is in the regular Options menu or in the BUG mod menu (if you are using that mod or a similar one).

If you have that activated then whatever unit you select to bulid will build until you stop it. So my guess is: you decided to build an ancher in a city (indefinitely) then decided to make a building wihout deleting the archer from the queue, so when the bulding is finished the city automatically returns to building the archer again and again. Heck, you don't even need that option activated; you can indefinitely create units if you click on them on the city screen while holding the Alt key (a * symbol is shown next to the unit name in the queue to indicate this)

So, try to deactivate the option if it is activated, or you can also check the city screen and see if the archer or whatever unit is in queue with or without the * symbol, because as far as I know there is no option in the game to automatically start producing a random unit in your cities wihout prompt (except with that gobernor button, which you already checked that it's deactivated).

I have a question about the apostolic palace and it's 2 :hammers: bonus to state religion buildings. I've recently vassaled napoleon and for some reason the 2 hammers bonus to all my budhist buildings dissappeared! I do not know exactly when this happened as I didn't keep track (I only noticed this when I clicked on a city screen and saw the bonus wasn't there) but certainly the budhist buildings have stopped giving me 2 :hammers: and it happened around the time I vassaled napoleon. Here are some facts...

1. I did not take over Paris (where the AP was located) so the AP was not raized.

2. Napoleon briefly went to free-religion before returning to OR (don't know if this makes a difference) with buddhism.

Some help is needed. I am really dissapointed as I've lost 6 base hammers in my HE city.

EDIT: Never mind. I've just found out that it's because I've defied a resolution that napoleon made just before I vassaled him. In that case I have another question: when will I get the bonus back?

An exceptionally sad question:
How do you unpause the game? XD
Press the "Pause Break" key. It's usually somewhere towards the upper middle or upper right of your keyboard - often near "Ins", "Del" and/or "PrtSc".

Note that for multiplayer games where it says e.g. "Paused by Lord Parkin", anyone else accessing the game can press their own "Pause Break" key to unpause it. It doesn't matter who pauses or unpauses, it all works the same. :)

Alt+click on the unit you want.

When the unhappiness goes away....
that differs on different speeds. What was yours?

I played Civ 1 long time ago. I generally like strategy games and I'm a huge fan of 4x space games like Master of Orion.

Now I have some time in my life and want to play one of the 'modern' civ games. What game should I buy: Civ 4 or Civ 5 and what is the difference between expansions? Don't say both please :) Which is better and why? Thanks.

My question is, why hasn't Inca won this game? He has three cities with 50,000+ culture.

I'm sure there's an obvious answer, but the truth is I never payed much attention to culture victories before. I am going for my first Emperor win and paying closer attention to these things than I usuaully do.

civ 4 is much more popular and complete. you can tell by the forums "viewing" figures. Even 3 years on, civ 4 content still gets far more views on these forums.

What speed is that? Only Cusco has an (L) next to it so that means that on that speed at least 80k culture is required for legendary. My guess it 70k is required.

Civ4 is So much better really. Make sure you get the BTS expansion with it, its a must. Also you got like hundreds upon hundreds of cool mods for Civ4, and more are still being developed.

Terraform what with what in what version of the game and/or mod?

In regular Civ4, any expansion or none but without any mod, there is not really any terraforming. About the closest would be chopping forests and jungle, or going nuke happy and bringing on global warming early (which converts the occasional plot to desert).

I'm talking about whether to build farms or cottages, and what tiles you build them on, etc. And I mean regular BtS.

Depends on how you want to play. Generally, you get as many farms as you need to grow to pop 20, and you can use cottages for commerce, or you can farm for specialists.
