I'm trying to convert a year into a turn number on epic speed. I can't find the reference on the forum that explains how you convert a year into a turn number for the different speeds. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

If you download the BUG mod you can show the turn number, along with the date. That would be easiest

Judging by the number of games bcool has submitted to HoF, I'm sure he's using the BUFFY mod which includes the BUG functions, as do I.

However, if you know you have to beat X date at Y gamespeed, how do you calculate how many turns that will take? I'd also like to know.

I just look at one of the existing time victory games in the HoF to get an idea of when the dates are for specific turns. Make sure it's the correct version (BtS different to vanilla/warlords dates).

EDIT: The player log and the general log has date/turn no for all the HoF games.

Yes, thanks, the Player log on an HoF game was enough for me to answer my question. I had a sgotm test game and only had the date of a wonder and was wondering what turn it was built on. I know there is a table somewhere on the forum with details like...

4000 BC - 2000 BC 40 years per turn (50 turns) (Not accurate just for demonstration purposes)
2000 BC - 1000 BC 20 years per turn (50 turns)
etc...

Is there any difference between the Beyond the Sword Expansion set and the Gold Anniversary set? I seem to remember some Civilization/leaders being listed in the forum for the Gold Edition that I don't remember being in the BtS box set game version. In the set pack that includes the Colonization Expansion set is that game a separate game of is it incorporated into Civ IV BtS?

I can't answer the first part. However, Colonization is not an expansion. It is a completely separate game using the same game engine and variations on some of the Civilization game ideas. It is different enough that it has its own forum under the CIV heading.

Real noob question...Say I have 8 population in a city with say 10 mines and 5 farms and five cottages..Does my city get PENALIZED for the 12 worked tiles that I'm not using?

It doesn't get penalized for the 12 improved tiles you are not working.

Your empire might have been indirectly penalized since you spent a lot of worker turns improving tiles that you didn't immediately need however. (unless of course this is a city you captured from the enemy)

But monetarily I won't lose anything, just the proverbial TIME that was wasted by my worker actually doing non essential work.

How can I start diplomacy when I get a random event popup? I'm 10 gold short of getting a free Great Artist and I need to sell something to Mansa Musa.
Sorry, but you can't.

Ice Age World. I tried to search this but end up on discussions about global warming. Question: Does the world ever warm up? You start 20,000 BCE but by 5000 BCE the climate should be as it is today. Does this happen in the game?

Welcome, Tiffany!:band:

No, the earth never warms up. If you fire off some nukes, you might encounter some global warming but not the type you want. The land bridges stay until the end of the game as well.

I like Ice Age. You can circumnavigate without Caravels and meet the whole world early. If you use Custom game screen, you can put in the normal # of Civs for a huge world. Crowds it up a little.

Do coastal cities ever sink as a result to Global Warming?
