Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Is that the best reference you are aware of? So the only thing that varies is if they will make plans for war at pleased? So none will make war at freindly and all will make war at cautious?
I think Kaitzilla & co made a really great effort in summarizing the raw xml data about individual leaders, so I would definitely recommend that thread for further reference. As for raw data check DanF's complete xml variables, which is a user friendly compilation of the whole LeaderHeadInfos file.

Yes, Catherine can be bribed in on you even if she's friendly, but fortunately she's the only one.

The AI can also discover reasorces in mines. I think it is 1 / 10,000 per worked mine per turn of discovering a reasorce.

Thanks.

Yes. There are also some spreadsheets with this information available.

I actually stumbled upon that while browsing old threads fairly soon after posting my message. Lots of good info there because it is annoying to try to guess whether the AI is going to DOW you or another AI. It was just quite weird that he was willing to sign a defensive pact with me while at the same time he was going to DOW me.

Seems weird, but the code did not make those two things mutually exclusive. It's two mechanics allowed at a certain attitude threshold and if you fulfill both, it's gonna work for both even though it almost makes no sense in RL. For instance, that leader can roll the war dice (a.k.a. the dice odd to start plotting rolled each turn for each leader they are allowed to DoW) each turn at PLEASED against you, but also allow DPacts at the same attitude.

Yes it doesn't really make any sense in real life, but I think after all those hours spent playing CIV 4 I should not expect the AI behaviour to make that make much sense.

Since when do (apparent) logic or loyalty play a role in war? Hitler had a pact of non-aggression with the Soviets, until he decided it was time to invade. Liking another leader or civilization only goes so far when their land and resources are so tempting.

The Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact

On August 23, 1939, four days after the economic agreement was signed and a little over a week before the beginning of World War II, Ribbentrop and Molotov signed the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact. (The pact is also referred to as the German-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact and the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact.) Publicly, this agreement stated that the two countries -- Germany and the Soviet Union -- would not attack each other. If there were ever a problem between the two countries, it was to be handled amicably. The pact was supposed to last for ten years; it lasted for less than two.

That sounds more like a 10-turn peace treaty than a defensive alliance. Of course, IRL, one can break 10-turn peace treaties. :haha:

But point taken; Hitler was signing treaties while plotting war (WHEOOHRN).

I just got back into Civ recently, and one thing I notice when playing vanilla BTS is my people get all pissed with me as "the world considers you a villain". How does this come about? I've never seen it before. It even happened in a defensive war(I did raze a city though).

Usually when I play, I go for world domination, but keeping up with my finances becomes a problem. Which one is better, if you include production bonuses - state property or corporations?

thanks

Corporations (Sushi/Mining Inc.) are better for production, but only if your games go into the Modern Era. Most Domination Victories are decided well before this, so State Property generally makes more sense, since the :hammers: boost is instantaneous and affects every city.

Also, when you've activated a settler, blue circles appear for cities the computer recommends. Are those actually good cities?

Don't mind those blue circles! Most of time, they are badly suggested. It happens once on a blue moon it gives a better location, but the criterion is bad like coastal cities are given high priorities, potential improved tiles is not taken into account at all (that means just base output is considered like a bunch of forests more important than a resource occasionally), etc. It often wasn't explained in details, but experience gave enough conclusion that both Sid's suggestions and blue circles are bad as hell. As much bad as some official article I won't date to mention for being satanist.

Here's the best source I have ever seen.

The suggested city locations are never terrible, and only sometimes are they particularly bad. They are also only occasionally the best possible locations.

If you settle only where it suggests then you will do as well as the AI in picking city locations. With a bit of practice and thought you can do better than the AI in just about every part of the game, including this one.

How do you edit a scenario on BTS? For example, I want to add more civs to the Earth18 civs scenario map.

It involves some changes to the SDK. You need to know some C++ and have a copy of Visual Studio. The Express version will do. There are tutorials in the Creation and Customization forums that will help you understand how to do it.

I was wondering because I could add more civs to the Europe scenario, but not the Earth 18 civs scenario.

hi I'm grateful for replies which help. I just want to know if there's a limit on city size for it to be captured, i.e. if you defeat all the defenders of a level 1 city that has never grown beyond that, is it automatically raised with no option to be captured?

If not, there's some kind of automatic city raising issue I'm having with the world builder and/or custom units I've made where cities are just being raised instantly with no option to be captured :(

I believe, if you owned the city previously it would not auto raze when you recaptured it.
