Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Yep. It was one of the few changes in BUG/BULL/BUFFY that does alter the gameplay.

Good to know that nothing gets lost. I always have problems with my IW city producing Execs, but knowing this, the city basically produces Execs and Wealth simultaniously :) .

The unofficial patch (so including BUG & BUFFY? mods) restored gold overflow but with only the normal modifiers.

BUG doesn't fix this since it requires a DLL change and BUG does not touch the DLL.

BULL (the optional add-on to BUG that includes DLL modifications to enable BUG to get more information) has the unofficial patch.
BUFFY includes BULL, so it does also get the fix.

This is sort of what I struggled with earlier. When I used the DLL that came with BUFFY, the games wouldn't load. When I used the original DLL, the games worked. Is this included in the DLL that comes with BUFFY, or in some other way?

Are you running it on a Mac? If so, you'll still need the CD.

Thank you for the details about whipping.....Now i am much more informed on how i must play....Thank you...

Also, option to make the build of a unit repeat until you delete it from the queue. Any build that is set to repeat will be marked with a *.

Can't believe i have to ask this...but which game of Sid's is better based on your opinion??Civ IV or the new remake of Civ IV Colonization? Can they sort - of be compared and compete??Thank you....

Since the are both built on the same game engine they have kind of the same feel, but other than that no comparison. The base colonization game is unplayable for the most part and not worth your time, (unlike CIV IV BTS)
However if you play the R&R mod that uses the TAC mod you will find a the game that is quite enjoyable. If you own col, I highly recommend it.

Civ IV is one of the best games ever made. Colonization is more of an interesting diversion.

Yes, not as good and rich in flavor, but getting any use out of the game after playing the base game was a pleasant surprise. They really did a lot of good work on that mod. It has held my attention for much longer than I thought it would.

I have a question about culture victory. In Civ IV BTS Culture victory occurs only by building specific buildings in cities or also by expanding your borders by conquering rival cities??I mean can't you combine culture victory with military expansion??Thank you....

Frigkas - Culture has basically nothing to do with military expansion. It can be can be achieved 100% peacefully.

Only reason to fight in CV is if you were tight for the recommended number of cities and wanted to capture a few more good ones. Sometimes it can be good early to capture 1 or 2 nearby AI capitals as they might be cities for CV or in general. Also, you might want to capture certain culture friendly wonders. OR you just might fight some war for fun and gold.

Otherwise, on normal/standard, expand to 9 cities, build cottages in your cap and maybe 1 or both other L cities, build temples to build cathedrals (or like) in L cities, Lib>Nat, Build Taj, run artists, raise culture slider to 100%, win. Last tech you probably ever need is Printing Press after Lib>Nationalism.

Civics (Rep/HR, Bureau>Free Speech, Caste System, Merc, Pacifism)

Wonders:

Any Great Artist producing wonder is good if you can build it quick (bonuses or forests)
Parthenon
Sistine Chapel (definitely want this one)
Taj (GA producing wonder on your direct beeline that provides golden age which boosts culture...save non-Great ARtist great people for late golden ages as well)

National Wonders:
National Epic and Hermitage (in cap) are really the only two NWs you need. If Heroic Epic is cheap it may be worth building in GP farm as it does produce GA points. Ofc, you have to fight to activate it or just try to get a warrior to Woody3 against barbs. HE not necessary though

Read Jesusin's guide in War academy and practice..one of the best guides in the war academy by the best CV player.

or also by expanding your borders by conquering rival cities??

conquering rival cities has no impact on obtaining legendary status in the three cities needed to win a culture victory.

If you're trying for a cultural victory you're usually trying to avoid war since you're spending your resources on building culture buildings and just plain culture instead of spending them on war. But I have found myself at war and still able to obtain a culture victory.
