Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Hi guys.

I downloaded the Afrikaaner civ from this site. The question is where do I place it the civ folder?

The best place to ask would be the thread where the mod was downloaded.

I need help. When i have many cities, sometimes my cities suffers a decrease in population, and i don't understand that (icons in red).

Why this happen? What is the problem? Are Spies? How should I react to this?

Increasing espionage? Should I have spies in my cities or something? I don't understand, but the fact is that i have lost many times due to this.

Thank you very much, I appreciatte your help.

Edit: I play in BtS.

Then, somebody could say me a reason for this?

Sorry, Ive been a Civ fan for years but im just new here to civ fanatics...
What is VANILLA???

Vanilla is a term used for many games to denote the original version.

i.e. Vanila Civ4 is just Civilization IV the game.

The reason they call it vanilla is to distinguish it from the expansion packs eg. Warlords and Beyond the Sword.

You aren't providing enough details for anyone to make more than a guess.

omg what?! I should have delved into the mods forum a long time ago...

I have a question about city maintenance. Does the world size factor into the cost of cities? I usually play on large maps but started a game in the strategy forum that was on a standard world size. I recklessly overexpanded to about the size I like to have my empire on large maps and it seems like it's taking me way longer to rebuild my economy.

Yes, that's true.

thanks for the info, how do I pull up the window in the expansion packs, the tilda key " ~ " does not seem to be working... :(

When you vassalise someone through capitulation, aren't they supposed to not count as an opponent anymore? On the victory conditon screen, under Conquest even when someone caps to me it still counts them as an opponent. Is this a bug or something?

Also, can someone point me in the right direction to a guide to city placement, if such a ting exists. Im really terrible at it.

The victory screen reflects vassals as opponents because they eventually can break free from you and become an opponent. Until the game is over a vassal is not technically submitted. But hey in my experience a war submitted vassal will stay a war submitted vassal. A voluntary vassal is always a maybe.

:hmm:
vassals do not count as opponents for conquest - though I cannot remember if the victory screen reflects that properly...

You sure? I'm pretty sure if you can manage to vassalize EVERYONE without going over the domination threshold you will get a conquest victory.

In this post, Cheat Code help, the editing of the ini-file and the console commands are explained. Of course, you need to edit the right ini-file. If you play BTS, then you need to edit the BTS ini-file, if you play Warlords, then you need to edit the Warlords ini-file and if you play vanilla, then you need to edit the ini-file of the vanilla game.

Oh and this post is also very good: More cheat code help.
