Raliuven SG3.5 Regent

Gah, I feel like such a douche now. I promised myself I'd play RSG4 this weekend but then I didn't, and now I have more exams. I can still play RSG4 but I'll need another skip here.

I'm halfway through.

Spoiler :
Pre-turn: Switch lots of builds away from Temples. I stop one Regular military build, too. To improve cash flow, I disband some of our obsolete units.

MM cities. Babylon hits 14spt = 5 turn Knights
So do No Cow Level and Iron Range.
Mr. Ed, Mount Ellipi, and Red Man Tobacco can hit the 10spt breakpoint -- Mt. E starts on a Court to help us towards the 14spt point.
Shuruppak gets switched to a 'duct -- and I'll rush it. Making Knights with its shield budget just takes too long, so it needs to grow to be more productive.

In Corse I rush the 'duct immediately; it's stalled for growth.
Backwater I switch from a 22-turn University to a 4-turn Settler (a uni there won't bring a good ROI -- it's only bringing in 7 beakers with a Lib. a Uni will cost more than it contributes here)

Yikes! We haven't started on the FP! I start No Cow Level on it in case I don't get a Leader this round. That's the top of my list for priorities.

Another note: We have 42 cities and only 41 Workers. Vast stretches of our Empire lie unimproved. IMO, cities like Tell Wilaya, Telloh, and Indian Food should have been building Workers instead of improvements. Meanwhile, No Cow Level should have remained a Settler factory. :gripe:

While this is "only" Regent, these are just the kinds of details that make a difference between a 1000 AD win and a 1700 AD win!

I sell Monotheism to Carthage for two Workers and 13g.

IBT:

Bergen: Settler > Worker
I get the "Red Bulls can't grow because of no 'duct" message. Here's another MM point: the ideal in this city would be for it to pop out a Settler every time it hits size 6 -- to avoid wasting food like this.

Birka: Workers
Corse: Duct > Mkt
Miss Scarlet: Settlers

Turn 1 (460 AD):

Battle of Inch'on:
eKnight kills Spear.
eKnight kills rSpear and gives rise to Agum! I guess I won't need the FP build in No Cow Level ;)
The city is ours now, too.

IBT:

Korea wants peace. They're willing to pay 1-2 cities for it, but that's not enough for me.

Red Bulls: Settler > Worker
Aarhus: Court > Worker
Karana: Court > Worker

Turn 2 (470 AD):

Battle of Taejon:
Bowman redlines Spear but then dies.
MDI kills Spear
MDI kills Spear and seizes the city.

Indian Food: Lib > Settler
Light Bay Horses: Settler > Worker

Bowman dies to 2/5 Spear :wallbash:

Damcyan founded near Light Bay Horses.

Misclick exposes a Catapult to capture :(

That would be the irritating program at work! :D

Mongols complain that we have a Knight in their borders. We apologize.
Korea builds a city in our backyard

Red Bulls: Workers
Copenhagen: Workers
Stavanger: Workers
Light Bay Horses: Worker > Court
Molde: Workers
Bodo: Workers

eBowman kills Spear.
MDI kills second Spear; city is ours.

IBT:

Red Bulls: Worker > Settlers
Iron Range: Knights
Tell Wilaya: Workers

Turn 10 (550 AD):

We have one Knight in range of the last Korean town in their homeland. It'll take two more turns to get a bigger stack there, but it'll be ours shortly. With Korea out of the way, we can easily attack either England or the Ottomans.

We'll obsolete the Great Wall soon, but we'll have to gift the Mongols up to Metals to take advantage. They don't even have Engineering yet, so we might want to hold off on that for a while and conquer the Ottomans first.

Looks like I'm up! Very nice! I will take a look tonight. Got the save.

Goals
Conquest by 1420AD (Turn 274; 104 turns to go)
There are reports of a red knight uprising near the Ottoman Empire! Poor fools . . .
Begin attack on Ottomans.
Finish assault on Korea after cities grow so they are not auto-razed.
Make a push to connect roads North/South.
Gather additional forces to begin assault on England for next player.
Aim for Military Tradition.

Babylon % of World Population: 31
Rivals Remaining: 10

Research: Sciene: 60%, Metal, 5 turns +5gpt, 286gp in the bank. On our way to Military Tradition.

We could go Ottomans or England but trying to get to England without taking out the Ottomans will just be a pain. Its nice that the road network from north south goes through Namp’o and only a few tile (jungle, albeit) are necessary to complete the connection. We’ll want to kill them before MT anyway, not that they even have a chance at that.

Maybe we can get a cultural flip on Mandalgovi? They seem awfully lonely in a sea of red.

Units will stage against England. Depending on war with Ottomans I may start the war on England. Units from the England campaign can then swing through Spain with reinforcements from the core and the Ottoman campaign. Then the forces in old Ottoman territory can join with the Spanish Expiditionary Force to crush Carthage.

In the meantime, our Cavalry from the core can fall upon the Mongols and we can drive through to Carthage/Portugal from two directions.

We have 54 cities and one settler. Total Enemy cities: 92
We have 54 well managed cities, which is the real key to victory in C3C.

Research: Sciene: 60%, Metal, 5 turns +5gpt, 286gp in the bank. On our way to Military Tradition.
Do we want to turn off research after we get Cavalries from Military Tradition? The next techs that are really helpful are Steam Power for Railroads and Replaceable Parts for Infantry, Artillery and faster workers. Both techs are in the next age, which we may not even get to.

I vote for turning off research after MT. We'll conquer the continent quickly enough with Cavs; pushing towards Steam will ... get us Railroads around the time we own the entire continent.

The only reason to research anything else is if we need to stage a naval invasion of an island civ we haven't met yet.

Turning off research after MT sounds good to me! And like you said Elephantium, we can just pick up Magnetism if we need transports to an island civ.

Brief update - I didn't finish my set until 2am this morning and I just didn't have the energy to post.

I did not get as far as I hoped with the Ottomans, but the Koreans are dead. I did end up razing their captial but it was a small loss. We are 1 turn away from MT but we have not found the Japanense - they must be on their own island somewhere. We'll need to do some trading or point stick research to continue sea exploration.

The Ottomans lost 3 cities and the road network is nearly done. There are a lot knights in the pipe so the next player should have some fun. :hammer: I think I lost one 5/5 Bowman in the entire set and even though there were plenty of elite victors thanks to excellent elite unit cultivation, there were no GLs.

We seem to have a significant monopoly on iron around the world - there are many civs without it.

I will post the full details and save tonight.

Many civs without iron? Wow! If we can get to them before they pick up muskets, that would be great!

Turn 170 [550AD]

Find and kill the Ottomans by 800 AD.

Random Notes and Tasks
Cavalry are available next turn. They cost 80 shields, so it would be nice if we had some cities that could crank them out rather quickly. However, Babylon only produces 15 spt, so we are stuck with 6 turn Cavalry.

Continue kicking the ottoman out from under the Ottomans. Get ready to tackle the Brits.

We have three luxuries and could use more. Ottomans show 1 Silk, which we already have. England has 2 Incense, none close to the border. Mongols have Incense within easy grabbing range at Ereen and also Gems in the Jungle at Darhan.

This next turn we turn off science, exccpt for just geeks. Five more required techs in the Middle Ages, if we want them. Well, we will need Astronomy to unlock Caravels for safer sea travel. And we stil need to find the New World.
