Random Deity Troublemaking

Renata - if it makes you feel any better, Pompeii will expand again in 20 turns and grab the horses.

Bad news, red dot was essentially taken off the table by the Russians founding a city S-SE of red dot. I'm figuring we'll want some gems for a second lux. I think I'll try for the western site. Thoughts?

Pre-flight – 2150 BC – Playing 15 turns. We have contact with four civs, missing three others. We might have a chance at some two-fers if any one will even discuss it it, but they won’t. Our entire economy is a “doubt it”

We if we can get writing any faster. Our options are 11 turns and… 11 turns. Nevermind.

Of course we are behind everyone. We can expect some Ancient Cavs to start pouring out of Germany as soon as Bismark builds Zeus.

Early - Volcano erupts. Lava flows do not reach Pompeii, much to the citizens’ relief. Found Antium. Start a worker. Nevermind about Red Dot. The Russians found a city snagging the gems. Way to paint a bull’s eye on your chest Cathy. :rolleyes:

The Mongols and Spaniards both have writing. Of course we can’t trade for it. Research time drops by a turn.

Spanish complete the Oracle.

Middle - Pompeii: barracks=>warrior=>settler
Byzantines build the Colossus
Everyone now has writing and HBR. Only the Mongols and Germans don’t know Math.
An exploring warrior is ambushed by some barbs and dies.
Dyes are hooked up. Lux to zero.
Writing =>literature
Antium: worker=>warrior

Late: We might not get the western gems site, as a German settler pair is nearby. Wake up the warrior in Veii and send him west to try a mini-block.
Pompeii: settler=>archer
Bismark demands 26G. Fine.

1650 - One of the volcanos is now active so I’m routing our settler the long way around.

IBT - The volcano erupts and the Germans build a city. :wallbash:

1625 – I’m going to stop right there. Here’s the situation. Where to now? Note I haven't done a thing in the turn. I know it's not kosher in an SG, but I would normally, stop playing here if it was a solo game.

This city will probably be our front city for a while, maybe we shold consider building it on the hill NE of the inland lake (pink dot). To the additional defense comes the mountains are in our land, incoming units got less defense. Downside is the needed cultural expansion to use the FP.

Well played to JD and Sir Bugsy.

So we're in a bit of a hole? Good :). Easy games get boring very quickly.

I agree with the spot Microbe suggested for the active settler, 2SE of the gems. Then I think we should lock in the horses. Like Renata, I feel the blue dot is aggressive but we may as well do it since we'll be preparing for war fairly soon anyway. Then just one more fishing village on the north coast and we can start gearing for...trouble. I very much doubt that the spots el_filet suggested will still be around by the time we have a settler ready for them.

Microbe...UP NOW
el_filet...ON DECK

I got used to the fact that the AI screws my dotmaps, but I just love to make them :)

Blue dot is on crappy land, but we gonna need those horses. I'd prefer the lands around yellow dot, but with war coming...

Blue dot's not that bad -- a mine on the horses and a couple of forest chops/mines to the north and it'll be all right. We can use one of the forest chops to hurry a barracks, and just build warrior(s) for MP until then.

It'd be nice if we could trade for IW sometime fairly soon -- as nice as it is to have horses around, iron would be better considering our UU -- but obviously that'll depend on our finances.

It will definitely be a flip risk, as will a city 2SE of the gems (it will have overlap with the Russian border you can see in Sir Bugsy's map.) But I think we could take the military route quickly and take out the AI cities....

Sorry, I stopped. I was a bit ticked off at losing that city site. Nothing has been moved on the last turn.

Edit - I would still go for blue dot. So who should be our first military target?

Actually it was quick.

preturn: I switch Pompeii to spear from archer. I would have liked a settler immediately but we have too many empty towns.

1600BC: buy a worker from Spain by 125g. Lux to 40.

IBT Russia demands 11g, sure.

1575BC: Spain demands 7g, sure. Russia builds Pyramids. Mongols establish embassy with us, thank you!

1550BC: A spanish warrior seems to be looking for a sneak attack. Shuffle units around.

1525BC: Cumae founded. Start a temple. The Spanish warrior fortifies outside our border.

1500BC: For some reason lux can drop to 10?

IBT culture expands and horses are within our border.

1400BC: we build a curragh which I send to west. Although it looks like a small pangea, some exploration isn't bad. Veii builds a settler and lower lux to 10 again.

I haven't done any trade.

Below is the dotmap. There is a good chance that Yekaterinburg is autorazed. If so plant a town there asap.

EDIT: in case it is not clear, Germany is fighting Russia and seems to be winning.

What are those Germans doing? Are they at war with Russia? We may have a poaching opportunity at Yekaterinburg if the Germans autoraze it.
