Random Events

actually I missed the happiness things, that is right - I could add that back. I looked for suitable venues, but somehow missed more - when actually finishing it up I wasn't really sure the stadiums were fitting though. I can add them, however since major replaces minor that actually results in less effect than having theater and opera - generally I would certainly increase the cost if there are more buildings.
I can not find concert halls or auditoriums. More fitting would probably be convention center, fair ground and indeed the sports arenas (basketball court and the two stadiums) and recreation center I guess - I could add them all - but that would make this event extremely powerful (adding another up to 8 happy and culture/turn for each city is huge) and I'd rather not have events that are completely out of whack. As is a cost of 2000 gold to add 4 culture per turn per city in the late game is already a mighty good investment - add to that 4 happy per city and its great, adding any more buildings would be way to much for the low cost.
 
I'd x10 the cost rather than take away any bonuses. YHWH knows I have enough money at that point in the game. Don't Forget motor speedways. Can you imagine these things at a monster truck rally?

All events that require money to implement the good choices need a darn good tweaking as we experiment and find out what the average player's income looks like throughout the game. Mine, for example has never dipped below 500 gold a turn since I got that high. Next update I hear there will be far more semi-mandatory minus gold buildings around so we'll see what we might want to charge then.

3000 gold (seed money)
minor stadium, basketball court, convention center, major stadium, fair grounds, motor speedway +1 :)

6000 gold (promote it as new cultural thing)
minor stadium, basketball court, convention center, major stadium, fair grounds, motor speedway +1 :) +2 :culture:/turn
 
's fine. No wait, be a little more greedy, 4000/8000 (out of my 420K) I'm just guessing based on my game. If at all possible I'd wait until we get feedback on everyone's treasury after the gold system is tweaked. And keep adjusting it as needed.

What are all the events that ask money of you to do stuff and what do they charge. I'm pretty sure they all need a solid bump up.
 
that is another concern, how much gold does the AI have on hand when it can rush buy things? I'll guess not much, correct?
As for the events requiring gold: yeah they are all low gold / effect, but mostly the individual effect is not too large ;)

Ok brainstorm time. How can I change this event to work without needing money at all....

got it. Ok so the first option, instead of doing nothing gives a plus happiness at quiet happiness buildings like theater, rec center, opera house. Second option gives happiness at LOUD happiness buildings like speedway and sports arenas and such. The third option, hopefully eventually tied to an appropriate steampunk tech has happiness and culture bonuses to BOTH sets of buildings as a pat on the back for taking the road less traveled. Budding mad scientists by all rights should get a real kick out of playing with lightning.

I don't think the basketball court should have it. I mean its just like an outdoor basketball court, not a stadium.

:hmm: I didn't do anything in that part of the file and it looks for the military / agricultural events in eventinfos which I didn't touch at all...
I just updated the svn and don't get this error so is it possible you are using an older version of these files?

edit: too slow in typing...
 
Another issue emerged tonight. We got a problem with an event that came up as soon as we got cubism (not sure if that had anything to do with it) but it created a huge string of errors. Sorry... didn't keep the savegame to share as we just pushed through it since it wasn't going to stop our gameplay.

Also, the silkworm event has no text.

Do you remember anything about the cubism event errors? its not cubism related I am sure, so its difficult to track the offending event down...
I'll look at the silkworm event...
 
With the volcano event, if you hover over the volcano it has the wrong name. the active one is dormant and vice versa. Which should change, the text or the event? ;)
 
Didn't get any volcano event since classical era started (now i'm on industrial era starting), though before that i've got 5 or 6 events (that was before patch, when events could occur in invisible land).
 
Any chance we could get something (on game start Python?) to add the initial food bonuses for volcanos that are active at game start?
