I hope that my t-shirt was covering my fly but it's not a sure thing. Oh well. There's some truth to that meme that no one has seen you look worse than the corner store people by your house.

Vodafone have now remotely activated our WLAN. But they didn't tell us what the new(?) password(s) is, so we still can't connect our devices to it.

I know that I am a user of archaic/arcane technologies, but don't you have a spare network cable running around? That way you could connect to the modem and then reconfigure it manually.

I could (and did) connect to the modem (and thence to the Interwebz) via a LAN-connection.

But the modem is technically still Vodafone's property, they're renting it to us as part of our contract. So even if I had the skillz to do so (which I do not), jailbreaking the modem's WLAN-function wasn't really a viable option.

Also, it turns out that we did have the 'WLAN password' already

Except that in the info we were sent, and on the box itself, it was called the "WLAN Schluessel [i.e. 'key']" not the "WLAN Kennwort". Precision is important with technical stuff, wouldn't you agree? Vodafone apparently don't...
