People have been making threats to shoot up my college today. Not sure if it's related to what's going on at Mizzou or not.

Yeah, I heard some guy got arrested there. And apparently someone on Yik Yak implied he'd shoot up Mizzou. Probably not serious, but this is America...

My sister and most of the campus took it seriously. Professors canceled classes because of it.

Yeah, might have been for the best.

Read a newspaper report that said that the first incident was a Missouri S&T student who threatened to shoot up Mizzou and later someone else threatened to shoot up Missouri S&T. The first guy is in custody now, the second person is unknown at the moment.

I went to bed at 5 pm cos I was tired after working. Now its 1 am and I'm wide awake, but I have an interview at 10.30 am and need more sleep :x

Oh yeah, the nap that turns into some half night sleep and thus completely destroys your day/night rythm. That's pretty annoying yeah.

I hate the whole stupid process of submitting a paper to a journal. Just let me send the damn thing in, instead of having to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to do it.

Not really a rant, but there wasn't a better place for this and I don't really think it's worth its own thread:

I am seriously considering giving up my business and joining the French Foreign Legion. I love having my own business, but I want to be a soldier again more than anything in the world. It's what I feel like I was born to do. My wife's not too keen on the idea though, but she says she'll ultimately support whatever decision I make because she knows this would make me happy. She told me that she realizes that I just haven't been the same person since I left the Army and if doing this will get me out of my "funk" then she'll find a way to cope with it.

The biggest drawback of going down this road though would be not being able to see a whole lot of my daughter and having her essentially grow up without a father. From what I understand, the Foreign Legion is deployed quite frequently and they only get something like 45 days of leave a year. That doesn't leave a whole lot of room for family time.

And the new job I got is also only temporary.

Also one of the managers will sit down with me at my current store on my last day tomorrow to discuss the things I need to improve on while at the next store I'll be working at ... I'm not looking forward to that part, I prefer when they only say nice things :(

I was at the climax of an awesome game of Age of Kings last night when Windows Update abruptly and without warning restarted my computer.[pissed]:ar15::run::aargh::sheep:

Seriously, man, you shouldn't give up on your family while you still have it. You can join some local branch of the Army if you like the discipline/organisation side of it, if you ever joined this Legion (I didn't know it still existed) you'd spend your time pining over those whom you left behind, and they would miss you as well.

Your gaming was interrupted? :run:

btw why haven't you configured Windows Update properly?

What do you know of windows update? I though you were a member of the ancient cult of Linux?

From Windows 8 onward you can no longer permanently delay Windows Update restarting your computer by itself unless you were to completely disable WU from downloading updates. You get 24 hours tops and it'll do it no matter what.

I have already spent too much money at GOG's sale, yet suddenly half a dozen things on my wishlist there are now on offer. :(

Nah, I can't join the National Guard or Reserve. I'm considered too old now. However, the Foreign Legion accepts new recruits as old as 39. The Foreign Legion really is my only opportunity to be a soldier again. Plus, I don't want my daughter to be educated in the US and Foreign Legion service will grant me and my family French citizenship; which means I could educate my daughter in France. It also opens up lucrative career opportunities as from what I hear, Foreign Legion soldiers are highly sought after by private military organizations.

You are right about family though, and I have thought about that. Hell, it's the reason I haven't already run off to France to sign up.

Does your wife want to live in France though, essentially apart from you?

The only problem she has with living in another country is that she would be far away from her family. Other than that, she wouldn't mind it at all since she did learn how to deal with me being away while I was in the Army and while I worked as a PMC in Afghanistan for a year.
