Random Rants 76: Argh! Augh! Ahhh!

Rant: Phrossack baked cookies.

This wouldn't be a rant except that they got stuck to the tray and had to be scraped off. Some were torn and broken in the process, and Phrossack decided that was a good excuse to eat them immediately.

But "some" here actually means "about a quarter of the whole batch."

We now have a phairly phull Phrossack who still has a traditional family dinner in about an hour or two.
Rave: at least you got chicken cookies.

I like using a sheet of parchment paper on my baking sheet when making cookies .. they just slide right off!

Normally I do that too. But I'd had issues with the cookies sticking to that, so I went without this time. No difference except now I have to clean the tray.

Hmmmm ... are you removing your cookies before they've cooled? Or are you certain you're using enough butter in your dough recipe?

I am removing them once the timer beeps, and I use store bought packages because I am lazy and see cooking as a tedious chore. Should I leave them in?

Every oven has slight differences. You sort of have to know yours if it matches the recipies if you're going to do a lot of baking. Or learn to improvise a bit.

<non-sarcastic observation> This is a personality flaw which you must address.
I could learn some of my family's ethnic recipes if they remember to share them with me. But many recipes need small amounts of many ingredients that I won't use for anything else and so waste money and space. More importantly, I just don't see why I should spend hours prepping, cooking, and cleaning when I could spend that time doing basically anything else.

Well… an afternoon of cooking can be more fun than an afternoon of videogames*. Home cooking (by a competent, conscious cook) can be more healthful than buying pre-made food all the time.
A lot of inspiration comes while doing manual labour, such as housecleaning or cooking, too.
And, hey, you control your own diet!
Of course, you have to grow to enjoy it and it's not for everybody, but you should try. And you don't have to be ‘ethnic’ just to satisfy Clan Phrossack. :)

*my apologies to anybody who might have had a heart attack after reading this

I really don't enjoy it, though. And the ethnic food isn't for the sake of my family, but because it's a nice tradition to keep alive and usually good food too.

Food is just fuel for the body. No need to make such a production out of it.

I can see why people love to cook or savor different foods.

But I don't have refined tastebuds or any patience, so for me, cooking's just a big investment of time and effort that I find hard to justify.

The recipe doesn't always work as stated. You might need to experiment before finding what works just right.

The last time i tried to bake cookies i ended up with Carbon Lumps.

It isn't removing them from the oven. It's removing them from the tray. Yes, take them out of the oven when the timer beeps, but then set the tray out of the way on the counter until everything cools down. When the cookies are still hot they are sticky.

I leave them on for a bit, but I guess not long enough. I'll leave them on for a bit longer next time.

Ah, that's another point in favour of cooking. It teaches patience. :)

Oh, and it does save money.
Except when you ruin it with mayonnaise. :mischief:
 Water pistols at dawn, sir.

I recommend room temperature for all involved...except you of course. You just maintain a healthy body temperature. But the cookies and the tray; room temperature. This can be challenging with certain cookies. A still warm and gooey chocolate chip cookie for example just demands to be pried off the tray, even if it is in bits and pieces.
