Random Rants LXIV: Who's Acting Like a Child Now?

No Phrossack you need to tell us your entire life story so that we don't think you're making a trick to attract our attention.

Then once you do we'll do that anyway because you told us your entire life story.

It's not that I'm against empathy, I just think if you want to share something, then just share it. Don't make some ambiguous statement to try to goad a response from people. Doing that makes it seem like you aren't really trying to get anything off your chest and are just trying to get attention from people.
Actually, I really was just getting something off my chest without going too much into boring details (job issues and such) and details I don't necessarily want to explain to everyone.
Yeah, sometimes you just need to scream into the void. Even offering the bare outline of a narrative was a courtesy to other users.

Life lesson: Don't burden others with your problems because everyone else has their own problems they are dealing with.

Life lesson 2: If you are going to share your problems with the public, you have to be prepared to face criticism for the way in which you share it and even just for the mere act of sharing it.

Life lesson 3: When everything else fails, join the French Foreign Legion.

So are you unaware that you're posting in a thread titled "Random Rants", or...?

Nah, he just wants everyone else to abide by the rules he's imposed on himself.

So he's allowed to rant, but I'm not allowed to rant about his rant?

The Random Rants threads exist for the express purpose of "burdening others with problems." If you don't like this concept, the Raves thread is thataway.

He's not ranting about other posters, though, is the thing. Just, give folk a bit of space to vent if they need it, is all I'm saying. They've picked the appropriate thread and it does no harm.

I thought the Raves thread was supposed to make others feel jealous of our successes.

Making one jealous creates a shiny new burden for someone, rather than handing them your old burdens.

Still two months till academic year starts here. As a teacher those 2-2.5 months vacations are too long. I could theoretically move to a country to teach while my home country has holidays. It's unprobable, but not impossible.

To be fair, I do roll my eyes a bit when people post those tease rants on fb. CFC rants thread though, much less so.

It's more like, why would you?

I wasn't aware that we all needed an approved reason to express ourselves. When did this become a thing?

So I'm supposed to suppress my opinions and rants just so someone else can feel comfortable expressing theirs? Well that doesn't sound very fair at all. Especially since you are making me feel uncomfortable about expressing my opinion right now.

EDIT: BTW Snerk, I'm working on that CFC roast video you asked for. Although, I don't think it's going to be as lighthearted as you may have been expecting. There's just no lighthearted way to say some of the things I want to say and I'm not going to hold back just to avoid hurting someone's feelings.

His rant was an innocent expression of frustration. Yours is needling another poster for that perfectly innocent expression. There's a difference.

There's less baggage on CFC. On Facebook, you generally have a fuller picture of the person's life, so the vagueness seems affected. If they have something to say, why not just say it, rather than asking us to do the mental and emotional legwork of filling in the details? But in the semi-anonymity of CFC, we only have as full a picture of other user's lives as they chose to give us, so it doesn't feel like they're asking us to piece together the full story, because there's no way we could do so.

The difference TF is aiming at is that Phrossack wasn't complaining about you, but you are complaining about Phrossack.

Is this not a rant thread though? Aren't all rants welcome? What you are saying is that my rant isn't welcome simply because you don't like the content of it. You are also saying that my rant isn't valid simply because it makes someone else feel uncomfortable, while also turning around and making me feel uncomfortable about expressing my opinion.

Well, Plato said "the wise man speaks when he has something to say. Fools because they have to say something." I would imagine that the concept of tact has been around at least as long as modern humans, though it still eludes many of us.
