Random Rants LXIX: Life is a Dismal Chore

After thinking about it, I have come to the realization that I enjoy K-pop way more than a man of my age should.
It doesn't surprise me, given that curious sensations that you experience when you see my avatar. (Incidentally, I think I have a new one)
If I had expert knowledge on the human psyche I'd also abuse for my own amusement.
You can always do it in an amateurish way.
What game specifically ?
Battle for Wesnoth. More specifically, the Bad Moon Rising/Trinity campaign set.
Spoiler :
It's four episodes, first come BMR 1-2-3, the last of which has a bittersweet ending where it seems the apocalypse is averted but there is a plot hook.
Until this point the scenarios have great design features (even if you end up playing two factions that have to eliminate each other, but that's not too bad as it's at the end of the story anyway).
And then in Trinity you find out that more or less anything you did was pointless because some races that predate all the men, elves, orcs, etc. come back to retake and destroy the world. Maybe. (there is a fork in the plot path and one is incomplete).

So, yes, the story would be far better if it ended at Ep. III rather than suddenly have a lot of things explained by ‘A, who is so intelligent and wise makes a blunder, B, who is so intelligent and wise makes a blunder, C, who is so intelligent and wise makes a blunder, D, who is so intelligent and wise…’
That and suddenly getting a hypercomplicated plot as happened in the last couple seasons of The X-Files.

Play Bad Moon Rising and don't play Trinity, I'd say. Avoid the railroading!

Good God, Lemon! Aren't you a psychologist?
Ummm.... Yes...

In my defense, sometimes you have to get someone talking and break down barriers, and sometimes the easiest way to do that is to make someone angry. I don't get people foaming at the mouth or anything. Just mildly annoyed.

Very true!

In volunteer sessions I've participated in in the past, sometimes the most effective way of getting someone to open up was to get them riled up enough to 'set the record straight'. Someone's base reluctance or barriers can make it a nightmare to have a legitimate dialogue about a problem.

I say that as someone who has been in both positions, of course.

Remember, it's not the size of the steak that counts. It's what you do with it. ;)

I ate half the steak. Overcooked it a bit! dammit. I cut into it to check and it was still blood red inside so i left it on for 1 minute on each side and turned off the stove halfway. That was too much. Turned out medium. Ah well, it was only a $8 CDN steak and it wasn't so bad really.. but still

Medium is the best. Fire was a big deal, being able to cook your meat instead of eating it raw was the first major accomplishment in mankind.
Don't throw thousands of generations of progress out of the window just because the rare-meat-fanboys are in fashion.

Are you Procrustes? :D

I am definitely pro-crusts when it comes to breads.

If ain't well-done, it ain't right.

I exist in this weird meat bubble where I absolutely hate rare meat but eat (fresh) ground beef/pork entirely raw.

Heck, it was an accomplishment that was accomplished before our species even existed, we have previous Homo genuses to thank for figuring out how to use fire.

An $8 steak really should fit on a plate. Otherwise you need better steak.

Were you playing Civ? (one more turn, one more turn, one more turn, one more turn, one more turn, one more turn...Hey. Is that the sun coming up?)

I long for the days I lived through that :(
Civ4 is too familiar now to cause me this kind of obsession, it's good enough to have spoiled the previous ones, and the newer are crap.

Why tho? Whenever I do this it's because of an insomnia episode, but it seems like you chose this fate!

In fairness the response to this is more of a rave, as it involved being over at a lady friend's place and deciding that us being in bed definitely did not mean sleep.

But man it hit me like a truck around 9:30 this morning. And sadly caffeine has literally 0 effect on me, I could chug a gallon of energy drinks and not feel a damn thing.
