Random Rants LXIX: Life is a Dismal Chore

On the verge of cutting ties with my father and the rest of my uncles on my father's side. You know the uncle I mentioned in the raves thread that got sentenced to 30 years for basically being the most disgusting human being alive? Yeah, well I found out that my father and the other uncles are planning on raising money to get his conviction appealed. Keep in mind that the evidence against him was rock solid, he plead guilty and only started thinking of appeal when he realized he was still getting the maximum despite pleading guilty.

Words can't even express how angry I am at my father's side of the family. They keep going on and on about how unfair it is that he's going to suffer and die in prison. Not one ounce of care or thought is going towards the victim (which was a 6 year old boy by the way) who is going to be permanently traumatized and has almost no shot at a normal life because of this. My mother called me today in tears because of this and said if my father continues to support his pedophile brother, she's going to divorce him. Personally, I 100% support my mother in this.

We're having our first snowstorm of the season here today.

Normally I don't care much about things like this, as I rarely go anywhere. But tomorrow I am supposed to go out, and if the parking lot isn't cleared by then, I'm going to have difficulty just getting off the premises here, let alone anywhere else.

I cut my index finger trying to open a package of meat with a knife that slipped. Had to get three stitches right up against the nail bed. Man it sucks. Thankfully not on my mouse hand or I'd be screwed.

An instance or two of carpal tunnel forced me to learn how to use a mouse with my other hand to the point that I can play point-and-click/mouse-only games almost as well with it as with my (by now long-recovered) good hand. I thought it'd be a pain to learn, but that's only when your brain keeps trying to go to the default option of using the better hand.

My issue is the cowardice and hypocrisy they are all showing now. When all this first went down, they all took the strong stance against him that is to be expected for a crime like this. However, now that the sentence has actually been passed down and they realize he's going to die in prison they are pulling the whole "oh we're never going to see our brother again" and "well the evidence against him wasn't really that strong, what if he was wrongly convicted?" It's disgusting to me that they seem to now be putting petty blood ties above what is right.

I found out who the prosecutor was for his case and wrote a letter to him giving him a heads up that my family might try to fight his conviction in the hopes he can do something to stop that from happening.

That is pretty messed up, sorry for what you are going through... I mean, i don't have the best views about my own immediate family, but at least none of them are (known) pedophiles. :/

Indeed. I hope Aimee is doing well. Maybe even having not such a tie to Tom Petty by now (timing would help her here...).

Sure, but what if in their misguided emotional attempts to free him, they actually succeed? They may eventually realize the error of their ways, but that won't undo the potential damage they could cause right now.

That is pretty messed up, sorry for what you are going through... I mean, i don't have the best views about my own immediate family, but at least none of them are (known) pedophiles. :/

I haven't seen her around these parts in years now, which is a shame. She always tended to make threads better just by being there and being funny.

One of my dogs is really sick, screaming in pain.

It began just as we were leaving for the city, so we stopped into see this island's only vet. He wasn't there because he's home sick. His assistant sold us some medicine, but it's not yet working. I feel utterly helpless. .

My only solace is that something similar happened to another one of my dogs several months ago [when the vet was visiting another island]. It cleared up in a few days. But this is not pleasant.

Same here. In a way I'm sadder about Aimee than about Petty, if only because I had the opportunity to get to know Aimee before she left CFC.
