I got blood taken this morning for an HIV test.
I was okay in the morning. Now I'm scared.
Think I should get a call tomorrow (if I'm not mistaken...hope it doesn't take until next week). I hope it's one of the 2 other things tested.
Because one of the alternatives is also cancer.
Oh boy :(.

What, are you positive you have something or is this test just preemptive?

Fear can make something extremely improbable highly probable. I am sure that the real chance of it being one of those two things is tiny and of it being anything else is huge. You will be fine. ;)

This is not the same thing at all, but 6 years ago when that monkey bit me a part of me was convinced that I was going to get rabies and die. I was also for a while waiting for lab results and that was not fun. They never even called me! I had to call them and ask. I guess them not calling you means "good news", but I was just stressing out instead

I was bitten by a wood mouse once, and was treated with antitenatic vaccine, but not rabia since the medic said there was not rabies in Spain. Anyway i had some high fever a week later which resulted to be a simple Flu. So, we all have passed or will pass for similar experiences eventually. Important advice: Go to the medic do whatever tests are needed, but dont search internet for it! You will recognize all the symptoms in yourself and will end thinking you have brain gangrene or something worse.

+1 grammar love for Hygro
He ended his sentence with a preposition!
Oh, but this is something I am good at. Have you ever heard of the concept of trace?

You're probably about to have an alien burst out of your chest and start infecting the rest of your shipmates.

A few decades back, when the AIDS crisis was a real unknown cloud hanging over everyone, this very promiscuous friend of mine took it into his head to get screened. Consider how you felt while waiting for the call, and imagine how he felt when they called and said "Your results are in. You need to come in for an appointment because we can't give you these results over the phone." They called on a Friday and made the appointment for Monday, and we spent the entire weekend talking him down off the ledge.

Usually, "no news is good news" when it comes to medical tests, but I'm often half-convinced that I've got something serious when usually it's nothing of the sort.

Wow I can't imagine what he went through that weekend

It didn't help that before we realized how on edge he was gonna be some clever wit said "Really? I got my results over the phone," just to wind him up.

Sometimes "no news" means somebody screwed up, either in forgetting to call or getting your information mixed up with someone else's.

I went to the doctor for recurrent long lasting throat infection. I have it like 5,6,7 times per year, sometimes bad enough to stay at home, sometimes not, always with long lasting coughing afterwards (like...2-3 weeks), and that for the last couple of years. Right now one side of my throat is still infected, and the main infection is more than two weeks ago.
I sure googled beforehand. But went to the doctor, and she said what I've read: Test for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia. She didn't initially want to do the HIV, but I said it should maybe be done too.
I can count my "encounters" on my both hands, and no interaction was in any way dangerous, but... who knows. I could imagine a possibility when many things had gone wrong at the same time point, but this is really a small possibility.

I didn't get a call today. When I wanted to call, it was outside the doctors calling hours (because here you cannot call when the doctor is open, but only at specific times, because...I have no idea).
While I was looking at the website for the opening hours (wasn't sure if it's until 5 on Fridays), I saw that my doctor is closed next week.
:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: brilliant :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:.
The results for the first 2 should already be in, that was tested separately in the urine, which I delivered earlier. Would already be good to know that, because having these and still being able to recover probably means it's not the latter.
I also checked yesterday, there are reports that there might be the possibility that oral Gonorrhea could be transmitted via kissing (or in general, oral mucus), so need to pay attention now. Reports on that are inconclusive though and e.g. the NHS says it's not possible.

Probably good then that my date for Sunday just canceled .
Would have been in a different city, so nothing would have happened anyways...
Means I have to postpone the one which I just postponed to next week again. Because I thought until Wednesday I'll for sure have the results.
Bah :wallbash:.

EDIT: The funny part is that I work at a microbiology lab in a hospital. If I knew anyone from the diagnostics department good enough, I could probably figure out if they have quick tests here. But I don't, and going randomly through the supplies... IDK, I could do that, it's now after office hours, there shouldn't be anyone around, but I even have no idea where that stuff is.

EDIT2: Yeah, how funny. This is the biggest hospital in a range of like 50 km, the only night apothecary in the range of 20 km, and the only test they have is a pregnancy test .
(the diagnostics lab where I'm sitting right now obviously must have tests, but as said...)

I just got a $5 voucher from London Drugs for my birthday (it's a week from today, and yes, that is a hint that I would not mind if someone started a thread; we've gotten out of doing birthday threads, and that's too bad).

So I'll take a look at their website and see if there's anything I want. Yes, I'm aware that the shipping would be over $5.

I also got a $5 voucher from Chapters.

If I lived in the south end of town I could redeem both of these in person, but as with London Drugs, I'll check out Chapters. If they have something for $5 (like a bookmark) and if they have any no-minimum free shipping events this month, I'll use it.

Good! Today is the day furthest away from your birthday. [party]

You mean furthest from your next birthday, right?
