Random Rants XI: This Title Actually Has Some Imagination

My mom has the music tastes of a 13-year-old girl.

Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce. The hell is next, she's going to start shopping at Abercrombie and Fitch?

You mom has good taste. ;)

I love Steam, but it keeps cocking up my non-Steam game mods.

Its far better than the alternatives, though I think I'm going to create a Debian partitian soon.

Come on, public opinion is largely negative towards Vista, if there's anyone you should be calling sheeple, it's Apple (apple PCs, and other products) users.

If you made actual real points, I could dismantle them nicely. As it stands, you simply made false allegations with no evidence.

I know what makes a good operating system, on my various computers and virtual machines, I currently have Ubuntu, Slackware, Smoothwall, Vista, Windows 7, FreeBSD, OpenSolaris and Leopard installed.

They all have certain things they're good for, and I can confidently say that Vista is the best operating system Microsoft has ever released.

Well it's a bloody recourse hog (not to mention it's bloated with many useless lines of code which could use a shearing), and many many many programs that work fine on XP are bugged on Vista and/or run slower. Software incompatibility galore. I see no need to upgrade my OS to something that will mess up my games and software. People like it just because it's new and shiny.

My dad has god-awful breath.

You can smell its noxious gas across the room. It smells awful, and he doesn't do a thing about it. Except mouthwash.

MOUTHWASH DOES NOT SOLVE ANYTHING RELATED TO BREATH.

Where the hell is my guitar pick?

That's a SWEEPING GENERALIZATION. my house has been using apple since before i was born. we loyal mac users (what, 10 people in total?) demand an apology!

see, that. :p

I hate Wikipedia's obscenely biased articles on the Greco-Bactrians and Indo-Greeks.

Oh. Well, all I can say is to try another mirror if you're having issues. :dunno: Works fine for me.

I decided that the BI adaptation was probably the problem, so I uninstalled and reinstalled RTW Vanilla, then installed EB up to 1.2. For some reason I STILL cannot get it to run, it just tries to start the game, runs for about two seconds, then closes.

I now think the problem is either that the shortcut is looking for the wrong path, or that I installed it wrong. Problem is, I have NO IDEA what I've done wrong, or what is supposed to be right.

Feel free to improve it.

8GB of ram costs $60. The monetary value of the resources Vista uses is far less than the monetary value of the resources XP used on release.

And increased RAM usage in Vista leads to increased performance.

and many many many programs that work fine on XP are bugged on Vista and/or run slower.

No.

You've been reading too many crappy tech blogs.

The only Windows programs that are bugged in Vista are poorly coded programs which are bugged by themselves in the first place.

Software incompatibility galore.

Name me any function you use your computer for where a leading program for that function isn't fully compatible with Vista.

Go ahead, just one.

I see no need to upgrade my OS to something that will mess up my games and software.

I would almost never recommend an upgrade to Vista on someone's old computer, but buying an older version of Windows with a new computer is pure foolishness.

What quality games or software are you actually referring to?

People like it just because it's new and shiny.

People who don't like Vista think it's because it's just new and shiny.

People who do like Vista like it because it's faster, in OS performance, and features enabling faster user interaction with the OS.

I like Apple products overall, that doesn't excuse the irrational brand worship that they get.

Macbook Air: Got relatively poor press for an Apple product. I quite like it, it's a real quality piece of hardware that fills a niche nothing else does, it simply isn't appropriate as a primary computer.

On the other hand, how many people with ipods do you think properly research their purchase beforehand?

Macbook air is quite cool. I agree. and they get brand worship for being different. good on them. all it means is more stuff is created to be used on my computer. :D

and how many people? none. because word of mouth is just as good a form of research. "I have this iPod, and it works great* (until a day after the warranty ;))!" "I have a 120 gb zune, and they ALL crashed on the EXACT same day!" which one sounds better to you?

That's just a problem with the Zune, not an advantage to the ipod. There are loads (well, a nice handful) of other companies making quality portable audio players. (Archos, Cowon, Sony, Samsung, SanDisk, Creative, ReignCom)

You're using a shortcut? Shouldn't you just go into the start menu? Also, where did you install it?
Feel free to improve it.
That would require giving my hard earned knowledge to other people, many of whom I don't already know.
Who dares spread lies about the Greco-Bactrians?!?
Apparently nationalist Indian historians.

I tried both using the start menu and the shortcut that the installation created. Both achieved the same result.

I installed it in the RTW folder, where it created a folder "EB."

To be fair, not a lot was written down by the Greco-Bactrians, only about them.

Knowledge was meant to be shared.
