Random SG 01 - The Randomness Begins

Upon seeing the coal, I kept the GG for tile stealing.

During the war, we earned a new GG, which is great, but Vancouver also claimed the coal tile, which demands our GG's services. It should've been in the report. So in the mean time, we have a GG helping with a siege up by Addis Ababa, and he could start moving this very turn towards Vancouver.

Either way, there were more pressing concerns than the ivory. Happiness is good, coal isn't.

Cool report!
And nice played too)

Yeh, iron is a problem.. How many do we lack, 1 or 2?
I will upgrade samurai, 1 sea resource doesn't cost penalty on our naval force... Maybe disband one of frigs but I don't like it...
With fixed iron, Attila's Court shouldn't be a problem. Now the question- do we need a central Attila's city (the Ceasaria)?? I think we don't because why bother, but maybe I'm missing something.

Since we're about to get coal, we may start to think on ideology? I would've picked Autocracy here... Or Order, if happiness would be really bad.

Agree with biology next, oil would be the key in future wars with planes/battleships. Any other good ideas for research?

And yes, we bought some iron from the Gus before, but aparently he's not happy with us anymore ;(

I bought 1 back but he only had 1 to send, so we're short 1. Upgrading the sammy will solve the problem.

Well that explains a lot. Thanks.

As for ideology, I thing either order or autocracy would work. If we are the first to get there, I would take order. If someone else gets it first, then autocracy. What does the team think? This is an area where I could learn a thing or two.

Those 3 range frigates have just given me a reason to build barracks/armories/military academies. Having that extra range is very powerful. Let's try to get as many ships as possible that promotion.

Yes, 3 range frigates are very nice and 4 range battleships are handy for land unit bombardment:)

Ok, then I'll be finishing off Hunns and moving towards oil on Suturday.
And settlment, this would be one of my latest founded cities ever xD

While you are playing Melelann, start gathering some intel on the Swedes. Note what units Gus has, especially naval units. Also if you can ascertain what level of technology they have reached.

Note what units Gus has
We have 1 privateer in the NW and 1 caravel in the E that could both converge to his continent for that job.

Sorry guys, I'm out of Internet at home for the whole long weekend:((

First thing tommorow morning, again sorry-)

Ok, I have two important questions.

Do we need the Caesarea Maritime?

What's our next SP?

For the second one, I strongly prefer rationalism opening, but for the first one I'm not sure..
I don't want it, but maybe there are good reasons to have it, then it's better to grab it now than later.

Everything else is going fine, Addis Ababa has fallen, Attila's Court will be ours in few turns (like 4-5 more) too. Public school in the Carthage is coming too-)
Spoiler :

Detailed report later, at least half of a set...

Yes to rationalism (vs 20gpt, I'd rather have science) and unless Caesara has a lot of nice resources we're otherwise missing (IIRC, that's a flat 'no'), I wouldn't bother with it and move on.

Turn 220. Samurai upgrades straight to riflemen, and we won't have them in the near future... So I think I'll kill him  Anyway we have more pearls than we can sell.
Start producing barracks in the capital though I'll switch it to the Public School next turn. Everything else is done for this turn.

Our pantheon works only in the Carthage on the moment and probably will be gone soon as well:(

Some galleasses are gone after cities bombardment, but who cares-)

Turn 221. Scientific theory, yey:) Switch capital to the Public School, due to 6 turns. Also switched writers slots there to science slots, scientist in 16 turns.

Bank in Utique is done, 1 turn shrine, then the temple I think, not much useful things around...

Some trade from the capital is done. Capital desperately needs food on my opinion
Spoiler :
Especially considering that it' running out of food tiles and all these specialist slots
2015-04-06_00006_zpsvk65u1js.jpg
, so relocate it to Utique and will send food:))

Research archeology towards oil, as planned.

Captured Addis Ababa, there goes the third capital^^
University, windmill, library, mosque and monastery, not bad:)

Puppeted it, 7 happiness.

As discussed, land army doesn't move on Caesarea Maritama, but I sent some units to help with Attila's Court.

We have a lvl 3 privateer, I choose supply to heal it on spot, but maybe I'm doing things wrong, tell me what do you prefer for melee ships^^
Spoiler :
Just 1 turn of frigates attack, they still rock -)

As discussed, I grab Rationalism opening. Next SP in 21 turns, ok for the middle of the game I think.

Turn 222. Attack on Attila's court is doing fine. We have received a second samurai, lol. Definitely gonna kill him and his buddy :p

One of them dies protecting our frigates, rip.

Turn 223. War continues, one privateer is down, city bombardment and two crossbows is a bit too much for him. Oh well, it's better than the frigate-)

Nothing new.

Turn 224. Capture the Attila's Court. 5 buildings including a free harbor in a capital:/

Down to -3 unhappiness :( I bought mercantile Singapore for 1000 gold, plus elections would be rigged soon, should be enough to get them allied for some time. Back to 4 happiness -)
Also moved a spy from Atilla's Court to Buenos Aires, it has a unique Furs and is cultured.

Hunns want peace but don't want to pay for it, stay like this just to get some extra exp for our frigates.

By the way, there is the Porcelain Tower available, 13 turns in the Hippo Regius, I think it's reasonable...

Turn 145. Finally the second samurai is dead and our frigates do not suffer from the lack of iron. Frigates are attacking some tiny Attila's city and getting some more exp:)

Settler arrives on the spot, yey.

Everything else is going it's way.

Turn 226. Found the city, Saguntum-)) I was thinking to wait for a great general, but whatever.

One food ocean tiles and a single hill are workable, great location xD
What do you think of razing Hunn's cities to get some more workable tiles?
Though we would steal 4-5 CS tiles -))
Produce Colosseum.
Spoiler :
Here is the pic with two best tiles to put citadel. Left one is better ASAP, but this Musketman is there for quite a bit.
2015-04-07_00003_zpsqmw49mxj.jpg

Attila wants peace for all his small cities, nah.

Turn 227. Two more ranged frigates, yey-)
Cargo ship has returned to Utique, I'll let it be to think what to do with it, 10 food/production looks better than 27 gold with 17 gold back for the moment.

Turn 228. Nothing interesting.

Turn 229. Archeology is done, I saw 8 sites in our borders and couple nearby-))

I put Porcelain Tower to produce in the Carthage, but feel free to change it, it's just one turn after all. For example a factory in few turns and some archeologists would be useful, we have quite a few of sites :D

Turn 230. 5-th frigate could get range and the last one will follow next turn. Sounds like the main achievement of my set-)) after this we could negotiate with Hunns, Attila doesn't have much to get exp from... Only if we really decide to raze these cities,

I disembarked the great general so it won't stay in the sea.

****
Some general things.
Met few CS's and one more Sweden city near the capital.
We're 2-nd in literacy, 1% behind the Hus.
Some tourism
Spoiler :
2015-04-06_00010_zpsb4l0ewiy.jpg

There was one turn when Utique was converted to the Orthodoxy with some faith/tourism/happiness building, but I forgot about it and next turn it flipped back:( So there could be the possibility to buy it in the future. I'm not sure if it forth the faith but probably it does.

What is Hus doing with all this units and open borders from Attila, hmmm....

I think we could use the culture from writer slots and GW-treatise to help us get down rationalism. Food cargo to Carthage for growth was a great idea :goodjob: I say we keep it going.

Whatever citadel grabs coal ASAP is the best citadel. Saguntum can sit there doing "avoid growth" and producing culture/happiness for all I care. It will give us a free ideology, its job is done. I'd go so far as to sit a cannon on the citadel and a musket on the coal.

We have the $ to buy factories on the spot - I say we spend it there.

If we had more iron I'd say keep making frigs and take on Sweden, but it doesn't look like we can field a larger fleet for a while. Keep scouting the seas, in hopes there are more to be found. Either way, there is no harm in setting ourselves up for the next war :mischief:

Declaring war on Sweden this early might get him to come towards us with embarked units, which would be awesome. It will also put us at war with about 50 city states, which is free experience for our fleet. At the same time, it will hurt our trade routes and economy in general. Shall we wait for oil to be revealed before we make a move on that front?

Declaring war on Theodora could be kept for later, or we could nab her while our frigates are strong. That would mean 100% chance of Sweden hating our guts so we have to be prepared to follow up anyways.

I think we can afford to take a build/consolidate/explore set, find resources in the ocean if any are to be found, and produce a pre-emptive settler to grab it. Iron and lux = the winning conditions for a frigate war on Sweden, otherwise we have a complete lead that can be best exploited in a few dozen turns with oil units.

Wow! Well done Admiral Menelann. :goodjob:

We have a lot of things to discuss. By the way, I concur with Beorn on the two big questions you asked - Rationalism and not taking the city.

Right off the bat, I see a few major decisions we need to make:

1. How long to we keep the war going with Attila? If we keep it going, what strategic objectives do we have (i.e. more tiles for new city)?

2. What is our timing going to be for our next war? Will it be Gustavo or Theodora?

3. After oil, what is our next tech objective? Here I say we go for artillery.

Roster
Bugs <=UP
Teproc - please check in
Gurra <= on deck
Eric
Beorn
Menelann <= just brought the :hammer: down on Attila :D

1. Is there anything we could gain from a peace treaty? Gold, resources? The new city ain't much to look at so extra tiles will benefit us very little. I guess more XP on frigates won't hurt though.

2. Theodora is behind in every way, all she'll do is prompt Gus to declare on us. I say we keep her for just before Gus, as we start to prepare and upgrade.

3. Artillery would be great if we wanted to tackle him head-on after a landing. I highly doubt we have any reason to do that though, since we can keep the war completely at sea. So, no strong opinion beyond beelining battleships.
