Random SG 01 - The Randomness Begins

Range 4 battleships would be very nice. I suppose a lot will depend upon how much oil we can get our hands on. I concur on going for battleships over artillery.

Pumping up our frigates to extended range is probably worth staying at war.

Also concur on going after Gus next.

One of the frigates needs 4 or 6 exp to get range, and I think we can have peace after it. As I mentioned Attila doesn't have anything to get exp from-)

He has a couple of cities that could be bombarded. Get within two and you can get experience from being bombarded.

Plus, the XP is better from attacking cities rather than units.

Good point. I'll get all frigates to extra range then stop. I'll be playing tonight after work. Other teammates, please give your opinion over the next 12 hours.

Well played sets, Beorn and Menelann. The war against Attila has been moving along nicely. I don't have much to add really, your plan sounds good. I agree with going for Sweden next, they are the most powerful of the enemies we have left and they control not just one but two original capitals.

BTW, here is the save file-)

About city exp, one of two Attila's island cities is down to 1 HP, other will be too after 1 or 2 more turns, so not too much point to continue it after grabbing a range.

I think wardecing Hus and shooting down his units/cities with 3 range is far more effective. The only thing, again, not to put frigates in city bombardment range, they can die in 1 turn at this point..

Also galleases look completely obscelete at this point, we may gift some of them to CS's for example-)

Depending on how much oil we get, they still might be worthwhile.

Yes, right, we have enourmous amount of money... Let's see how much oil do we have before deleting them. Though upgrading is kinda expensive

Turn 230 – 1600 AD - Preflight – Several units haven’t been moved. One frigate has an upgrade – select +1 range. We meet Tyre (+15G). A galleass bombards a city. Move several super-frigates to home waters for repairs.

We capture Espoo and set it ablaze. That will free up some land by our new city. We are temporarily unhappy. I sell a coliseum in Espoo for 25G.

I find a galleass that has 4 experience points. I send it to the scrap yard. Upgrading two levels with no virtually no experience is not worth it.

Hippo: Windmill => public school

I’m thinking we might want to start in on Gustave soon. He doesn’t have a navy, and we don’t have an army that can match his. Some naval bombardment should be able to soften him up.

What does the team think?

IBT - :sleep:

Turn 231 – 1605 AD – Kill a barb caravel. Bombard a Hun city with our only regular frigate. Steal the coal from a CS with our great general. Attila shows us a musket so our cannons bombard it.

We are going to need Kyzyl on our side rather than being an ally of Gus.

Kyzyl_zpsz38qswfh.jpg

I spend 1750G to bring them into our fold.

IBT – Gus completes the Porcelain Tower. Suleiman is pissed off that we are getting too close to Budapest. You just noticed? You are a dope! We get a great artist. We don't have anywhere to use the GA, so he is just sitting by Carthage.

Turn 232 – 1610 AD – Kill Attila’s lone musket. That last bombardment means a promotion for our last frigate. Now we have seven super-frigates. As soon as they are repaired I’ll position them for the next war.

I grab Attila by the hair and drag him to the peace table. I tell him he is a punk and demand all his money (78G, 32 GPT). He gives it to us and goes off in a corner to sulk. Our empire rejoices with the news of VA Day (Victory over Attila).

M’Banzo-Kongo is also going to potentially be a problem in a war with Gus. I spend 1500G to ally them with us. Hopefully that's OK with everyone.

IBT – Both Gus and Attila declare war on Suleiman. What a bunch of bullies. I also notice that we aren’t allied with Cape Town. That could be a huge problem.

Turn 233 – 1615 AD – I make Cape Town our ally. Start moving our super-frigates to the west and north coasts of Sweden. We received a great scientist and I light bulb biology. We do not have oil in our borders. There is some close by:

Oil_zpsrzi8c0nl.jpg

Those are 5 oil each. The western source will be captured on the next turn. Over by Edirne, we’ll have 5 more oil in 12 turns with border expansion. That should be enough – 10 oil within our borders. How should we handle the eastern oil source, or should we just leave it alone?

We are still quite far away from getting battleships. I dial up metallurgy as the next tech on the way to them. (3 turns).

IBT – Haile wants open borders. I bundle that with a 2 lux for 7GPT deal.

Turn 234 – 1620 AD – Healing and repositioning.

IBT – Suleiman stole acoustics.

Turn 235 – 1625 AD – One of our allies has four iron. I upgrade a galleass.

When we declare war, Singapore is going to take it in the shorts. I will wait until we can provide some type of naval support.

The world congress is coming up in five turns. Natural heritage sites and the world’s fair are up for a vote. I’m not sure how to vote on those.

IBT - :sleep:

Turn 236 – 1630 AD – I buy more influence with Budapest since we were almost no longer allies.

Hippo: public school => privateer

Metallurgy is complete. I select electricity on the way to refrigeration for two reasons. 1. We’ll get another spy. 2. We can build submarines.

Upgrade another galleass to a frigate. We have one galleass left.

IBT – Gus steals archeology.

Turn 237 – 1635 AD – We now have three super frigates on the north coast and three on the west coast of Sweden. We should be ready to declare next turn. :hammer:

Persepolis: ??? => circus
Gades: public school => factory

IBT – Budapest gives us a samurai. We lost some iron somewhere. Haile, the tough guy, declares war on Suleiman.

Turn 238 – 1640 AD – Ah, M’Banza was bought by Sweden. Buy them back.

Time to declare war on Gus.
Gus_zpsgbkklaby.jpg

Yes, we are. What are you going to do about it? We bring on the wrath of nine city states. Good thing I grabbed the ones I did.

Kill a land unit that was embarked (1-0)
Bombard a frigate.
Utique: public school => privateer

IBT – City States swarm with naval units.

Turn 239 – 1645 AD – Istanbul bombards a CS caravel and a privateer captures it. (2-0)
Sink a Swedish caravel (3-0)
Sink a CS privateer (4-0)
I screw up and capture a Swedish frigate and now we need iron. (5-0) I think I’ll purposely have that thing killed.
Sink an embarked Swedish Hakka (6-0)
Realize that the samurai is taking an iron. Delete him and we’re OK.

IBT – Singapore is holding its own. Our coal city is getting attention from Vancouver.
The privateer off Edinburgh that captured the frigate is sunk by the city. (6-1)
Theodora completes the Louvre

Turn 240 – 1650 AD – We have a new social policy. I select secularism (+2 beaker per specialist).
Persepolis: Circus => public school
Sink an embarked pike (7-1)
Kill a musket and a crossbow (9-1)
Sink a Swedish ironclad (10-1)
Start bombarding Edinburgh.
Hippo: privateer => privateer
At the World Congress I commit our delegates to the natural heritage bill.

Post-flight report: We have a fleet off Constantinople

Constantinople_zps4htlu1gd.jpg

I was sending these ships toward home to get repaired.

Here is the situation around Saguntum:

Saguntum_zpspro5huqh.jpg

We have a frigate supporting the city and there is a Gatling gun embarked that should go there as well.

Here is the situation around Edinburgh:

Edinburgh_zps9o2yozdg.jpg

Watch out for land units embarking from the north coast, probably bound for our lands.
