Random Thoughts 3: A Little Bit of This, and a Little Bit of That...

The current discussion is specifically about a soon-to-be created law that is meant to ease up immigration laws for people who have skills that we're missing en masse, and there's a dialog happening on how to solve the problem. Some people argue that we should just fill these positions with migrants (that's the position of the current government), others argue that that's a cop-out to avoid having to fix the reasons that have caused the lack of "homegrown" specialists, and that it's highly unfair to the people who are already living here. They argue that people not wanting to do these jobs are only a fraction of the overall picture, and that there's simply a lack of infrastructure to allow people to get the education they need to fill these jobs.

So I don't think it would effect you too much as it's not really about people who wish to immigrate normally, but rather about whether we should ease up the immigration process for jobs that we are currently not filling efficiently.
What are those jobs that are not being filled efficiently?
Sounds like the solution is to employ NZ's approach of prioritizing skilled immigration. Then, in conjunction with this, you add grants to domestic education that students can access for learning the prioritized skills locally.

You address an immediate need while addressing the long term.
I believe that NZ the local equivalents of AfD and Die Linke do not have such a strong presence as in Germany.

Not so hard now you can get a little electric motor. Jersey milk if you can get it, then buttermilk byproduct for pancakes. It really is nommy. I don't like butter enough to do it, but I did give up on margarine this past year and just get butter butter when I want a spread.
Legit. I def prefer Jersey milk. Haven't seen any down here yet but I bet I can. Just to drink tho.

The users at Polygon are hilarious. Well-known Fortnite Streamer Ninja explains that he doesn't stream with women because he and his wife (who also is a public figure) don't want "rumors to spread", and some of the most upvoted comments on that article suggest that he is a misogynist and that he is "holding back women".

Apparently, in the minds of these people, if you're a man and successful, your forfeit your rights to self-determination and freedom of association. You need to be a martyr for women, or else you're a terrible person.

Yeah, if you've been paying attention to video game streaming, then you know that people on twitch and youtube use that sort of stuff to spread rumors and that these rumors will turn into harassment if you're a well-known figure. "If I have one conversation with one female streamer where we’re playing with one another, and even if there’s a hint of flirting, that is going to be taken and going to be put on every single video and be clickbait forever" is what Ninja says about it, and there's even a link in the Polygon article that does into detail about that problem.

Particularly given the situation - him being married, and openly so - that's an invitation for trolls to create controversies that might get lots of abuse thrown at him and his wife.

If you want to read more about it, the article is called "Ninja explains his choice not to stream with female gamers" btw, won't link it because the comments are filled with swear words.

Are you talking about a gamer or Vice-President Pence?

Sounds like a self-created problem to me.

Ah yes, the "Say something dumb and then be overly vague to not be called out on it"-cop out.

He touched me *here* and *there*, officer.

You're going away for a looong time, Syns.

Not before you've finished your dinner, young man!
