Rat 22 - AWE RaR large pangaea

did that have a significant effect on our outer cities?

Not so much as I expected. However, we don't need to build too many courthouses anymore.

After RP, I decided to research Social Darwinism-->Corporation-->Refining. For Oil and Pentagon. We do hope that we could drill oil in NW desert or Southern tundra. We have a Rubber band in Niagara Falls.

I auto-razed Herald, captured Odense and Nanjing in both front. New colonists are sent towards NW front to fill the gaps.

Germany replaced Bremen with Stuttgart, this time we'd better keep it as our inland landfill.

Major armies are gathered in and around Odense.

Edit: We should seriously railroad some low food city to use more tiles. Especially poor Akkad and Samarra. High food cities such as Odessa and Babylon have to wait for reforestation (City Planning).

Played 9 turns and will finish up tomorrow.

Went for Repeating Rifle after Soc Darwinism to get Cavalry. Their def 3 makes them much better for Armies than the Hussar at Def 1.

Built a goodly number of Laborers - our counts are getting better.

We will have 4 Cav Armies by my turn end with only 2 turns to go on building the next. I think ThERat will make quite a bit of progress on his turn.

Preturn: I may go for repeating Rifle after Social Darwinism. We will want Cavalry. The Def 3 attack 8 make better Armies and delaying Pentagon is worth it.

IBT: No attacks.

1305 AD: First elite victory gets us a leader. Army will wait for Cavalry.

Japans Iron is Coastal - I bombard it and they have no more Iron. Note that they have a 7-2-2 UU that requires Iron and we had 2 boats right near their Iron.

IBT: No attacks.

1310 AD: Aarhus (Viking) is auto-destroyed. Destroy Stuttgart(Germany). Build Ebla

IBT: Get an Army from Wonder.

1315 AD: Build Odense. Attack Matsuyama.

IBT: Build an Army (so we have 3 waiting for Cav).

1320 AD: Armies have taken a beating so they head home to rest. Set up some Cav Prebuilds

IBT: Lose an Adventurer vs Elephant.

1325 AD: Mostly healing

1330 AD: Build two more towns to push our borders forward - One east and one west.

IBT: Landing from Ottomans near Sippar.

1335 AD: Get another Army. Fill 1 1/2 Cav army. The next player may see major advancement with the rails completing and the new Cav Armies.

IBT: Ottomans and Arabia are fighting - Ottos sink a boat that was going to land from Arabia

1340 AD: Repulse Line Infantry from Egypt. Running low on Cash - building some Toll Houses.

1345 AD: Another city built. Still short on Cav to fill all 4 Armies (another was built since 1315).

1350 AD: Capture Xianyang(Chinese) and Sverdlosk(Russian) and Raze Stravenger(Viking)

Notes:
I am becoming doubtful this game will last very long. The next player will be able to advance a good bit. I would go for Egypt as they are rich.

it looks like the steamroller is just gaining speed...very good progress :goodjob:

og ti, but with 2 nights out, I will play this on saturday most likely. With our short roster, this shouldn't be an issue anyway.

We are also building edison for another 2 free techs due in 12
Smiths will be done in 2 and hopefully improve our economy

I started more leathernecks and we will get clippers for transport to take out Ottoman and Arabs

rat22.jpg

plarq is up again...now with 3 unit armies, I am sure we can make quick progress considering that the AI are fighting each other as well

Workers are much better now and we can rail quite a bit, unfortunately the jungle is awful and slows us down

I'm sorry, due to heavy overheat, my computer refused to run Civ before several restarts.

Skip me this turn.

BTW: we should start some market places, then banks, to get Central Bank and Wall Streets.

I'll try my computer again.

Turn 0: Re-shuffle builds, avoid shield waste, regular units and start some bazaars and markets.

Turn 1: Liberate Hieralpolis (sp?) from Egyptians, Hangchow from China, and Trondheim from Vikings.
Place several Leathernecks in Sippur, with amphibious attack combined with inland manueavor we could seal China and Germany's fate.

National Railway of Babylon completes another hundreds of miles of rails in Egyptian jungles, Chinese Marshes and rich Babylon farmlands.

Turn 2: Destroy Beijing. Build Smith.

Turn 3: Destroy Kahun(Egyptian), Yokohama. Cavalry army capture Viking capital Birka. Leatherneck capture Munchen(Munich). Russian capital St. Peterburg captured. Russians built Yakutsk E to St. Peterburg. Steel-->Sanitation.

Turn 4: Captures Copenhagen from Japan, Leatherneck captures Konigberg.

Turn 5: City hopping: Capture Tatung from China, Sevastopol from Russia, destroy Yakutsk. Russia is OCC. Leatherneck capture Hamburg. Leipzig (Chinese) is auto-razed.

IBT: Japanese captures Viking's last city.

Turn 6: Capture Memphis from Egypt.

Turn 7: Capture capitals of China, Germany and Russia: Xinjian, Berlin, Smolensk, Russia is out.

Turn 8: Capture Tonga in the North.

Turn 9: Fail to capture Thebes and Elephantine. Get CP and Realpolitik from ToE, start Winter Palace in Odessa. Raze a Polynesian town in the north.

IBT: Get Screw Propeller from Encyclopedia?! Poly and Inca are really researching.

Turn 10: Wait for Internal Combustion and Mass Production.

Capture Canton, China is gone.
Leatherneck captures Edo from Japan.
Heavy Siege laid again on Thebes, this time the city falls.
Leatherneck captures Frankfurt, German is now OCC.

Summary: The AI folds very soon as they're fighting each other. It's funny to watch Chinese and Germans, Egypt and Polynesia, Japan and Vikings, Ottoman and Arabs fighting each other, just to make way for the Babylon red.

Currently Akkad is prebuilding Crystal Palace, Edison due in 2, and select Internal Combustion and Mass Production when lab is ready.

Eridu is building the 3rd Bank, after that, a Central Bank could be built.

In a Clipper outside Bergen bay, a Leatherneck army is on board.

looks like we're soon about to wrap up this game :goodjob:

Well I played the 2 first turns. Crystal palace though was a bust - it would take 14 turns and the game will be over by then. I took the two techs and then switched the pre-build to a coal plant for a modest shield loss. Should have calculated the shields earlier - I had forgotten the Crystal palace was so many shields (2200).

In fact I switched mostly to military for a quick finish. I am going to go for Conquest. May take a bit of play time as the turns are getting longish.

ThERat, we may have to move up to demi-god to get to tanks. RaR AWE is easier than regular AWE. At the higher difficulties the initial units become more of a concern as RaR starts slower, but once you survive the initial phase, the multiple shield bonus buildings benefits the player and the game is easier than a standard game at the same difficulty.

My idea of AW restrictions:

A. No GL, no GL capture until it is obsolete.
B. No infiltration. Land units shouldn't travel deep inside enemy territory. Landing units from sea must capture the nearest towns before invading inlands. Paradrops can infiltrate anywhere.
C. Mod the game a bit to let AI have armies.

They can have armies. In fact I killed one during my turn. The problem I believe is that they have no clue on how to use them. This army had a single unit and was sitting in a city.

I have played with your no infiltration rule. Agree pillaging is very powerful vs AI - unless playing on a huge map or larger. Basically you couldn't bypass a city without destroying it (when on land). Boats still had freedom of movement.

ThERat, were you thinking of running another game of AW in RaR?

I don't mind playing another AW RaR game, but interest seems to be a little low these days. If we have 4 people playing (Greebley, plarq, myself + someone else), we could try AWDG RaR or play with added restrictions. I think not having the GL will be tough as tech speed can be really fast.

First, we need another player who would be interested, then we can decide to play AWDG or AWE + restrictions

Preturn: Wake up a bunch of units that are doing nothing including fortified workers and armies. Armies are sent at cities for the most part and workers work on main road to the front line.
I think the game is close enough to the end that I switch to Military for the most part. A market for example won't pay for itself.
Upgrade a lot of units as well. Two coastal towns switch to Clippers to complete in 1.

IBT: A few units move. Treb shoots at a boat.

1455 AD:
Wake up workers to work on the roads to the front line. I want to be able to get all my units into play.

German:
Capture last German city. The Weak Germans are Destroyed

Japanese:
Capture Reykjavik, Capture Stockholm using new road. Road to Stockholm to attack Nagoya and also Capture it using Cavalry (one retreats).

Egypt:
Our Elephant Army captures Elephantine. :D Capture Alexandria with a Cav Army.

Arabia: Land 8 Rifles in Arabian lands.

IBT: Minor enemy movement. We get the two techs.

1460 AD: Crystal Palace will take 14 turns. The game won't last that long. Switch to Coal Plant at the lost of 256 shields. I had forgotten the Xtal Palace was so many shields. (2200) or I would have switched sooner.

Arabia.
Capture Medina

Ottomen: Land Leathernecks

Egypt: Capture current Capitol El-Armana. Forgot to mention that these cities are worth about 800 gold each.
Capture Byblos and Heliopols
Egypt has only one city left.

Japan: Attack and capture Satsuma.
Attack Tokyo

Polynesia: Attack Hiva.

We are short on Laborers I have (almost) every one roading the front and am still limited by worker moves. Large cities will take a turn to build more.

IBT: Lose Alexandria and 2 Adventurers. Shouldn't be hard to take back.

1465 AD: With too few workers and tons of gold (see gold below), I am going to rush almost every corrupt town to build more laborers. I wasn't that many squares short of what I wanted to build.

Polynesia: Capture Takei and get 1423 gold. Capture Hiva for 1541

Inca: Capture Alexandria for nearly 900 gold. Pucara is heavily guarded with Adenturers and wounded units.. We lose 2 Cav taking it.

Arabia: Lots of Regular troops on Arabian soil, but many are slow Rifles.
Raze Bagdad

Ottoman
Capture Uskadar.

Got a leader = Army and got a random Army via Wonder.

Polynesia and Japan have 5 cities left. Egypt has 1. Inca have 7. Some mountains and such make Access harder. One Poly city is on an island. We built a transport nearby.

IBT: 51 new Laborers. That is 6 1/2 squares of roading.

1470 AD:
Polynesia:
Attack Haraika and Capture Pukapuka.

Arabia: Capture Anjar (middle of Arabia) Capture Island city of Basra (will abandon)
Capture Damascus we now have a row of cities between Arabia and Ottomans Arabia has only 4 cities
Ottomans have 7 cities as well.

1475 AD:
Eliminate Egypt.
Knock Incans to 3 Towns.
Knock Polynesia off of Continent (Island Capitol already under siege).
Japan still at 5 towns.
Capture Arabian capitol (Mecca). Down to 3 cities.
Capture Antalya from Ottomans. Down to 6 cities
18 cities left to Capture. 9 on other Continent, 8 on ours (Japan is behind annoying mountains and jungle) and one last island one
Got another Leader for Army.

We have killed enough cities that we have over 20K in the bank. I spend it to rush around 30 cavalry.

IBT: I counted - we got 29 cavalry total (2 or 3 were a turn away already).

1480 AD:
Incan: Chimbote has more defense than usual, but is in Cav Range so of course falls. Cupisnique and Paracas fall and The Incan are no more.
Arabia: Attack 3 out of 4 of their cities capturing one.
Ottoman: Army captures a city with Gutenburg Bible.
Polynesia: Caputure Au Pue and The Weak Polynesians are gone.
Japan: Nara holds off our first 3 Cav (killing 1), but then falls.
Kagoshima is distance 4 so we attack with Cav Armies. Only has 2 Units so we capture quickly.
Kyoto is capture by an army that moved up to it last round (we have mountains all around now.
Attack Izumu with an Adv Army that can get to it in the mountains. Down to 2 hp after the 2nd attack but we capture it.
Final city is Osaka surrounded by Jungle and mountains. First Adv Army dies against the town. Elephant army can reach with its jungle powers and kills a unit.
Waves of Adventurers handle the last unit and the 1 hp survivor of the Army. Capture Osaka Japan has been Destroyed
The Adventurers guild protest the high casualty rates, but the government says Tough Noogies the game is almost over.

3 Armies and 12 Cavalry go across in a Transport. It is port to port so they get their movement (no rails though) on the other side.

Abandon some cities to move more away from Domination.
Arabia has 2 cities and the Ottomans have 4

We hurry 15K more Cavalry for the next transport. Probably won't need these.

IBT: Not much
1485 AD: We Attack the 2 Arabian cities and Capture them Arabia Destroyed Only one more civ left.
Leathernecks that had been marching on Bursa capture it. Aydan is capture to the North - two cities left. We capture the Southern city with the Armies we sent over the last time. The final one is the tricky one. There is a boat that I hoped could help - I load it with an Adv Army and a Cav Army. It crosses from port to the port closest to final city. We attack 3 times with a Cav Army and 3 times with the Adv Army and win killing 6. An 8 hp army attacks and loses leaving a 1 hp Adventurer.
Search and find another possibility - The cav I just built go from port to port to get to their island. They board another ship and go to the port close to the city.

Sadly the transport misses reaching the port by a single square. Not able to take it this turn. Miss by a single hp adventurer because our 8 hp Army lost to it.

IBT: Not much at all.

1490 AD: The arriving cav finish off the final Adventurer. Ottomans have been destroyed

Our final act as ruler is a vast orgy of worker sacrifices to push our domination to 73%.
