RBC8 - Revenge of the North Koreans (C3C Deity SG)

Charis,

Unfortunately, your save didn't work either... But, other than not being able to change the science rate and the lux tax (ie, anything on the F1 screen), I can pretty much do everything else... So, if you want, I could play anyways... (I played through 4-5 turns last night (as I'd set aside the time to do so...) and a Mongol city pretty much fell every turn...)

Let me know,

JMB

Thanks for the nice setup Meldor! :hammer: :)

Sorry about the rather unexciting write-up, but we just crushed :hammer: the Mongols without anything particularly exciting happening... It was fun playing though... :)

Well, I am not exactly certain what happened in the first couple of turns, but suffice it to say, it is now 1475 and the Mongols have lost 4 cities... Sometime in here, I saw one of our Hwatcha get promoted to Elite... IBT, we complete the Intelligence Agency.

1480 - we capture Ereen.

1485 - We take out all the defenders in Tokyo (size 12, 3 vet infantry, 1 reg cavalry) with our artillery and Hwatcha. Our army then walks into the undefended city and destroys a bomber. We raze the city. The process is repeated at Dharan. We capture Matsuyama. How do we have an Elite Indian (??) Pikeman? IBT, nearly have a heart attack when Mongolian bombers nearly take out two of our armies. Fortunately, they survive.

1490 - We take Nagasaki using our Artillery and Hwatcha; our army destroys a bomber and we raze the city. We continue pressing forward and raze Yokohama. We raze Satsuma and a bomber.

1495 - Baruun-Urt falls to our bombardment combination and we raze the city (the fact that the roads beneath the city disappear when you raze the city is really annoying...). Nagoya is captured and a bomber is razed.

1500 - Finally, a MGL. He forms an army.

1505 - Kagoshima is razed. We raze Beijing and the Sistine Chapel. We raze Edo. We raze Osaka. Tsingtao should fall next turn. I've left a few troops with movement left for the next leader. Our alliance with the Indians (and ROP) ends this turn, so feel free to cancel it.

Well, I think I am pretty much done for now. I certainly don't expect to see this game again...

Personally, I think we should go for a conquest victory, but that is a group decision. If we do this (go for a conquest victory), we could switch to communism to see how it fares as a war-time government... Republic is working out fine right now (and there is no reason to believe that it won't continue to work fine through the end game... In fact, since switching to communism would cost us several turns of anarchy, it probably isn't worth it...)

Now that is one fine job of *laying down the smack*!!

:hammer:

Superb progress, and a great set up by Meldor. I got it, but need to focus on the RBC39 Epic which has a deadline coming up soon. As you pointed out, there are 1-3 player turns left, probably 2.

Charis

Regent isn't the problem, but RBC13 feast is. I was actually several turns ahead in FRFR but only posted one set every few days to give a more continuous appearance. (I didn't play that game instead of this :P ) I'm up now finishing the Sid game, then am up in Cordovans, then Rus, then finally Koreans.

I need a much bigger spoon for this feast!! Having said that, Speaker or Skyfish -- if you're in famine mode by all means hop in here and swap with me this round.

Charis

Coming from someone who took ten days to play and left us with the biggest teaser of the season before the final report, I'm a bit surprised. :p

I'll get to it, but taxes pre-empted what I thought would be a catch-up weekend. I got almost no Civ in. (Although, thankfully, the numbers came out well and we'll be getting a refund)

Charis

I had to put something in to bumb it up and keep it from hitting the third page!

I guess you missed the humor in the statement...

(Pardon the delay and missed humor, but I got the job done this turn!)

Generalissimo Justice Mercy Benevolence (or JMB as some called him) had a reign
that would go down in the annals of history as the reign where the very back of the
Mongols was snapped, like a dry twig underfoot. They still breathed, they still had
a significant tech lead, but they were a broken people. Wang Charis Kong hoped that
his reign would be the one known as the one where they were eliminated from the face
of the planet. Wang Charis was also known as a humorless man, but one who meant well! :P

The generals Meldor and JMB have turned a strong defensive position into a blowout
offensive assault on the unwashed Mongol hordes! Their pain cries out but no one hears
them. Korea has come into its glory, and but one thing remains before eradication of
the enemies and victory. One more important item which shall forever mark the reign
of Wang Charis in the annals of Korean history...

Reunification. It is our South Korea brothers which were abused and trampled, and
we must reunify, spiritually if not politcally. To do this we need a government
in which all locations and all peoples are treated equal. It is time to be
"Beloved Kong", the leader of the Communist North Koreans. Seoul stands as capital,
and P'yongyang as Forbidden Palace site. Who shall have the honor of being the home of
a Secret Police Headquarters?!

Ironically, the Mongols are in anarchy and no doubt headed for Fascism. Even in
their death throes they do not recognize the error of their ways. BTW, our unit support
cost is 290gpt (!), and I plan on tons more units and not so many more cities. Conquest
seems to suit us best unless someone else has other thoughts. At 20% lux we're +84gpt net
and Steel would take 9 turns at full. If we simply found the old Mongols sites domination
is in our grasp, and more quickly.

I look at the save, wowza, we're doing all this with Cavalry vs Infantry and are
a mile away from tanks?!? Truly this is a shining example of the power of the H'wacha,
for are armies are made of of Medieval Knights!
Mongols have 16 cities left. Our offense consists of 5 armies, just about 8 cav and
5 knights, 72 infantry, 33 artillery and 45 glorious Hwach'a (one elite - can you get
a MGL H'watcha?!?! :P ).

Annoyingly, China is on a smallish island but lacks infantry. Let's get over there
quick and finish that task right away. Plant spies too. Better fortify Lahore a little
better too. India lacks rubber. If we keep it like that we'll make mincemeat out of them.
We can carve straight from Lahore to Madras to Delhi if needed. For them however, we'll
wait until the armies are finished with the Mongols, and let the next leader wipe out
India and finish.

RIGHT NOW - there is are two free rubber sites that India could settle or make a
colony on. The Wang shouts "Pillage/guard them *NOW*" and so it is done.

[0] 1505 - Hyangsan swaps to Galleon, and one is rushes in Tokch'on.
We'll send cav and infantry to each Chinese site. (Their peace expires in 8)

First diplo order of business, spies. India works, Mongols works. China matters not.

No time like the present, we revolt. We'll be back in 6. Not great, though not worst.
While there are inf in our territory near Chinga, Taechon and Tengu, they're left alone.

Note! THeir rubber is at Mandelgovi, and they have two oil near Nankon and under
Nanking. The former can be pillaged this very turn, and is.
IBT - Nuthin! The three in our lands pillage rails to roads. If that isn't the strongest
smell of gas I've seen in a while, I don't know what is. And with their anarchy
to match ours, we'll see a few turns of no fresh troops.

[1] 1510 - That was quick, the Mongols are back, in Fascism. Their ENTIRE army, now
visible via the spy, is 2 rifles, 38 infantry, 4 artillery and a destroyer. That's IT!

We found Hamhung right next to India's newest rubber colony, and we found
next to their second newest. No rubber for you chief!
This turn they also put a worker on a horse, so we pillage all 8 squares next to him.
NO cav either pal!

The first casualty inflicted here was an arty-arty-Hwatcha-BOOM! Combo on an inf.
We coallesce the many stacks of artillery and pull them into one megaSOD patch
each with 20 or so units, then peel off a few to shoot at a given target.
We start in south with Canton and Xinjian. They each have two defenders, redlined
then assaulted. Canton is kept as it's next to oil. At Tsingtao, no Hwatcha kills but
they do make 'em red for army to kill. Knight army kills two but OUCH, they're not the
greatest even vs 1hp infantry in cities. We even lose a vet inf on that nut.
It has the Mausoleum, and out of respect for our ancestors, I keep the city.
(It's next to saltpeter as well, so we would have to re-settle over it)

We move a HugeSOD of Hwatcha right smack next to Almarikh, with army and inf cover.
IBT - Zilch.

[2] 1515 - The city of Rubber Poacher is founded, making an Indian colony go poof.
Almarikh is shelled by artillery til red, then Hwatcha, killing a hefty five.
It's ironic at the end of battle to see Hwatch'a poised on outside of city walls,
and with no defenders, the artillery shows through. An inf walks in.

Nanking is redlined, just two defenders. Cav kills one then the infantry kills
the other, only to see a full cav underneath. A few more artillery are ready and fire
then we bring up a cav to finish him and take the city. A monster SOD moves up next
to Shanghai. It won't survive next turn. IBT - Three cav show up, and do nothing.
They seem to have horses and salt, no iron, no rubber.

[3] 1520 - I see the horse source near the border and pillage it. Their open units
are shelled and killed. At Nanking 10 Hwatch'a kill 3 units after artillery redline
them, and we waltz into the city. Chengdu and Hoyd are setup to die next turn.

Ship Alpha pulls out of Hyangsan for China North.
IBT - EEP! Almarikh and Tsingtao both flipped! We've been going minimum garrison
to minimize the impact fortunately, although that may too be a contribuing factor.
Huh??? Flak's show up as defenders?! 1.6.1, best available with no rubber, lol.

[4] 1525 - The flak, unusual in design to the Koreans, is no match whatsoever for the
fearsome power of our artillery and Hwatch'a! Neither is the rubble city of Chengdu.
A single quadKnight army takes out what is left of Hoyd, our new home for the Knights
Templar wonder. This leaves Hangchow exposes, shelled, and captured by a Knight army.

* ALL OF Southern/Western Mongolia is now *GONE*. ONLY the smallish area with their
last five cities remain! That's the penninsula north of the chokepoint. We immediately
assault their barricades. One is destroyed, one taken. Next turn Dalanzagad will
face three armies and three cav! :hammer:

[5] 1530 - Daligad only had two infantry, knocked out even without bombardment by
a cav army and knight army. We can now rail up even more. This city holds the
keys to both salt and coal, too. IBT - Two guerrilas approach, do nothing.

[6] 1535 - Finally, the shining moment of truth has arrived! The people speak, and
speak clearly. The beloved Charis Kong is considered a true comrade and brother to
the people, and is unanimously elected as the leader of the new...

Communist Government of North Korea! :hammer:

Remember our income before? In 1505 in Republic our net income at 20% lux was:
Now in communism it's +243gpt! Our total shields are now 495 for the nation.
They used to be. Our top cities are still strong, six above 30 and six more 24-29.
Even better, we don't need lux when the people are so JOYOUS over our new govt,
so the 'real' net income is +310gpt! This whole war has been without a single unit,
in anarchy. What am I going to do now that units will roll off the line!?

Mandalgovi is captured with our cav army after arty shells paint the town red.
The extra army movement allows us to take Choybalsan, but I don't notice until
all the Hwatch's moved next to it.

IBT - Hangchow flips to the Chinese!! Good grief! Flipping to a 3CC??! Our culture
was about even. Even more reason for what is going to happen 2 turns from now! :hammer:

[7] 1540 - *ENRAGED* by the flip, the Kong sends out ships immediately on this the last
turn of the peace accord - from Tokch'on heaing for China West.

Tsetserleg, the next to last Mongol city, is artilleried and captured with a
Knight army. We bomb down their last city to redline their only 2 defenders.
Then to show our great benevolence, we grant them peace and give them a free tech.
Yea right! Wang Kong lets down the hammer and a cav army finishes the job,
eliminating the yellow blight completely from our lands. Koreans 1. Mongols 0.
Not bad for 7 turns, with the nice setup of our previous generals :P
We're also at 1K gold and +400gpt.

RBC8-MongolsGone-1540AD.jpg

China will come next, then next leader will contend with India. They are up only
radio, we're working on steel and they're as far behind the mongols as we were.
Again, they lack horses and rubber, and so lack cav and infantry. Sweet!
IBT - Indians start Shakespeare's, Magellans and Smiths. Will they live long enough
to see one? We get a palace expansion in celebration of the Mongol's exit!

[8] 1545 - We declare on arrogant China for a display of who is the boss in this
Asian Rumble (part Deux!) Hangchow's single rifle is as a gnat to our might.
We unload a full galleon on each island, and will shuttle more to the bigger western
island right off our coast. IBT - India declares war!!! On the Chinese!
Oh MY! They incompetently FAIL to take Anyang which only has a rifle and spear,
even with its minimal borders. They likewise fail on a chinese island.

[9] 1550 - The proud and glorious Koreans do NOT fail at Anyang. After that I notice
that we have an RoP with India!! I use that to massively fortify the city as a second
beachhead. At Kaifeng two cav beat rifles, infantry beats longbow. One chinese city left.

Ulsan has been a good and faithful city. It is nominated to become the new Secret
Police Headquarters (it's also one of the highest shield producers we have)
IBT - Maybe we should build Wall Street? OK, Seaol swaps to it.

[10] 1555 - A settler moves into position to finally claim away the rubber the
Indians had false hope of getting. Tientsin had more than our 3 units could take
out this round, so they'll last one more.

[11] 1560 - Huich'on Horses is founded. Namwon Kong Prod is also founded NW of Lahore
in one of the last bits of neutral spaces in that area, as a frontal assault piece.
Just some last railroading in prep for the handover.

Actually, this is a great stopping point, and I stop here.

* Conquest, or Domination * That is the only question at this point!
- We're at 68% world pop and 48% area. We could easily do either. There are massive
gaps in ex-Mongol territory and we could get to probably 58 to 68% just by that.
Throw in poprushes of libraries everywhere including the chinese islands, and it might
just put us over the top. Depends if you want a knockdown dragout fight or if the
total annihilation of the Mongols (and Chinese) has satisfied our bloodlust.
Hmm, India, the ONLY other nation, is listed as 25% area, which suggests we would
hit 75% if we got every single available square. Up to you guys, either ok by me.
(If quiet dominatino win, there's neutral land near Anyyang too, in the NE)
- Our spies list this as Indian army: 6 settlers, 14 rifles, 27 inf, 3 cat, 4 arty and...
71 guerillas (cough). 12 frigates too. That's pretty darn poor. We have 12 knights,
19 cav, 74 inf, 33 arty, 5 armies, 45 Hwach'a.
- The middle alternative is to march to war and hold cities, going for a mil domination.
- Wall Street due in 3, Mil Acad in 2, SPHQ in 2.
- All our forces are massed at Lahore, with the killer arty stick on a nearby mountain
in range of New Delhi, and the massive Hwatch'a stack just behind Lahore. Also
see Anyang, their second front. Move/swap any troops around while we have an RoP, then
get fully out of their space if you want to declare war.

Good luck, Speaker Kong!
Charis

I was able to find some free time tonight to play and had a lot of fun. :hammer:

IT- Shuffle a few more infantry and a knight army to our northern stronghold of Anyang. We could kill several dozen Guerrila there. Library switches to barracks.

*enter*

1565AD (1): Whip the walls in Anyang as well. Foreign workers bump it up to size 7 for the defense. Move up 12 Hwach'a and 10 artillery and I think the north is secure for war. Chop the forest next to Namwon Kong Prod to produce a killing field for the Indian slow units. With zero cavalry, they are going to die hard. Found Kumgang to fill in a bunch of space in the middle. Clear the border of unnecessary units. War should begin next turn.

1570AD (2): Secret Police HQ and Military Academy are finished and we are ready for war. I attempt a safe steal from the Indians, with acceptable results either way. We succeed and I take Radio. Ansang gets a radio tower, so it should be quite secure. I dial up Gandhi and cancel our RoP and then declare war. He's pretty pissed. Over on the Kaifeng island, artillery redlines an infantry and an elite cav cleans it up. Kill 13 guerrila and an infantry and lose a couple infantry.

IT- Indian units stream over the border into Korea.

1575AD (3): Bomb New Delhi to the red and raze it. When all is said and done I kill 15 guerilla and a few infantry.

1580AD (4): Indians have refounded New Delhi and I again raze it.

1585AD (5): Bombard the hell out of Madras and raze it, destroying the Colossus. These Hwach'a rule. Also raze another city.

1590AD (6): Raze New Bombay and get a leader who goes for another Cavalry Army. Clear out a stack of a dozen or so Guerilla.

1595AD (7): Indians only built 3 guerrila in the IT, so I would say their backs are pretty much broken. Mostly rest this turn, healing the armies.

1600AD (8): Wow, those armies heal fast! Raze Ganges, Krasnoyarsk, New Madras, New Calcutta, New Bangaladore, Erdenet, and Macao.

1605AD (9): Pune is a tough nut to crack, sending several cavalry to the glue factory, but it falls and is razed. The western part of India is now clear, and I'll clean up the area before passing off.

1610AD (10): Build an army in Pyongyang, fill it with Cavalry. Pop another GL and make an army. We now have 8 armies in the field. Build a colony on a free dyes tile, so we now have all 8 luxuries.

Conclusions-
India is gassed, and only has 5 riflemen, 9 infantry, and 34 guerilla.
Four armies are healing in Manp'o and should be ready next turn.
I left two stacks next to Lahore which still have full movement.
There is a huge stack ready to raze Delhi next turn.
Workers, if needed, are stacked in the core.
Area/Population is at 60/81, so be careful not to trigger domination.
I can't imagine Skyfish won't finish this one off in the next 5-10 turns. Have fun! :hammer:

Revenge is Ours

If you can take it JMB you should :D
If you havent got it tomorrow (Saturday), I'll gladly finish it this week-end :)

Well, I can't take it as I am leaving today for the weekend. I just wanted to make sure that you'd seen that you were up... :)

JMB

Well this was a walk in the park nothing to report at all.
I just made sure we were not hitting domination and eliminated the poor Indians.
