RBE DSG2 - It's a Small World After All

I asked Soren in the chat last night if he would read this thread for an example of poor AI performance.

He said he had already read it and that they had made the AI more space-tech aggressive in 1.14 PTW in response to this game.

Pretty cool eh?

Wowzers! Firaxis seems to be one of the best companies out there at the moment when it comes to patches. But to know that a game I took part in actually had a direct influence over a patch is amazing. :)

I suggested this thread to Soren a few weeks ago when he emailed me about my Civ3 page. I posted notice about that on my site's history page, but I wouldn't blame anybody for missing that. My site was originally intended to have more content, but almost everything else I might post about is covered in the spot reports anyway. Still, those who do actually check my site instead of following only the report links from RB will pick up on things now and then that some will overlook. :)

Firaxis is doing a very good job of supporting the game via the patch process. :hammer: Even if a company makes a sparkling game (and Civ3 wasn't exactly sparkling with the initial release) it can still benefit sigificantly from the kind of rigors only a full community can put it through. Testing is crucial, but even the best testing will fail to turn up things a wide audience will find. If a company is not both dedicated to patching up these kind of post-release issues and competent at succeeding in hammering them out, I don't tend to be dedicated to buying any more of their games, if you know what I mean. (Ahem, Blizzard). Infogrames today seems to be filling the niche of old that MicroProse used to occupy. That's a pretty tall order. Almost all of my favorite strategy games of all time were published by MicroProse.
