*cough, cough* actually i was sort of the diplomat in moscow WIM...lighthearter was merely the reporter. The bastards seem to have forgotten about how the buddha preached for peace...
Anyway we have no chance of meeting these demands, so do we send someone to negotiate again? (no way is armitage going. whosit, maybe you can get some results from the madman if you choose. We are taking on all volunteers to be a diplomat here.)
Or do we stand and fight? We need a navy bad as ragnar almost certainly has a few galleys and triremes and we have a single galley. Then the armies will reach us in about 20 turns unless they use sea transport which i will assume as unlikely. That should give us enough turns to spam a few archers from the home islands, and maybe axemen from iberia if we can move fast enough.
LH-Can we use the HDO to gain intelligence on the militaries of ragnar and peter? Could they possibly be able to perform a mission to steal some (fake, not in-game) gold from rome and other countries to maybe avoid the war altogether?
I know that giving in to demands would make us look weak, but if we can get the gold i will do it, even just so we can prepare for a war with them that we can go on the offensive in.

Maybe I read something differently than you, but I got the impression that have only twenty turns to throw an army together before we get attacked. That's not as long as it may sound, especially given the current state of the empire.

Yes, multiple units. Not multiple armies, which is what we need. Multiple units will slow them down, and maybe give them a bit of damage. We will have a token force compared to what we need to withstand their assault. Multiple units will include (a guess) MAYBE 10 archers, 3 axeman, and 2 spearmen. This is the MAX that i think we will get out, considering the latter 2 cant be built until we connect with a mine on the copper. It will take turns to get them there, then to build the mine, then the road, then the units. What i have guessed at, it VERY OPTIMISTIC.
I will like to see the faces of the opposition when we lose our hold on the continent, therefore any chance of having even a decent number of cities until id say the 1700's. We will be behind for most of the game if we lose those cities, and the home islands themselves might be assaulted if the vikings get a chance.

In my MP games with Cull, DarkGawain, and DarkObserver, Cull is notorious for declaring war at the last minute. We usually use a 10 turn grace period, and I can easily go from minimal army to ready army in that time.

In all of my noble games, I have never seen a threatening stack this early on, especially at the moment the war starts.

True, true. I still think we will be able to work this out without a hitch.
And Whosit, I'm waiting for an Arya update on what tech plan he'd like to choose before continuing negotiations. If he accepts the in-between tech plan of:
(Trade to Mongols writing for IW)-meditation-polytheism-monotheism-priesthood-(bulb theology) - construction - currency - CoL - Metal Casting
Then we will be able to execute it and continue.

The bottom line is that we need to mobilize militarily quickly, and build as much defenses as possible (without Slavery). Even if Russia doesn't attack (and it probably wont), we need more defense for future scares and attacks, and it might as well be built now.

Actually, we are waiting to hear from you too see if you have accepted any of our offers.
Preparing an adequate military without the use of Slavery is going to be difficult. At best. Currently, London is the only city that can push troops out in a reasonable amount of time, and even on Noble, I wouldn't want to bet on one city versus an empire.

Well then the incomepetence of the government that put us in this crisis would be Cull, WIM, and MN. It was your administration that left us with minimal defense. And im sure that we could get a decent army in 10 turns (20 in this case) too, if we had a DEVELOPED EMPIRE. Most of our nation is still in its earliest phase. We have 2 decently developed cities, and only london is a city we can count on for some good production and it cant make a whole army, plus its the best city available for settlers and workers too!
So lets listen to whosit and stop. Anyone got some good ideas on this crisis?
To the opposition-If you come out and start claiming a phony war with some concessions in a peace deal is going to happen, this president is going to go el-presidente on you! (only LH should know what that means. So LH maybe you should explain just how bad that would be...). We need an army, and we need it now. Im working on a second round of negotiating though.

Actually the el presidente im refering to is from one of lighthearter AARs back on the paradox forums. Trust me, you do not someone like him in office. He would declare war on everyone and clone everyone in the empire 100 times so he could win the war. Of course with no clones available in CIV he would lose, so yeah we should keep him out of office.
And im waiting for whosit to get back to me on the status of his negotiations with you on the tech plan. I believe he is waiting for a response from you.
We NEED slavery now that war is almost certain. At the very least, if the russians are about to take a city, we can whip it down to one pop so they dont get a city from it.

I happen to believe all humans should have rights. Would you like to be denied all the rights you take for granted? That might mean you could have your children taken away and that you could be sold or bought at the whim of whoever owned you. Your owner might want to have sex with you and you would have no right to deny him or her. I could go on, but hopefully you get the idea.
