Reconciliation passes Senate, to be approved by House tonight DEMOCRATIC VICTORY!!!!

As the gubamint doesn't have a right to do any such thing, I propose that they waterboard those suspected of being exercise-abstainers to find out whether they do exercise or not.

Good point. The amount of meat subsudies is massive. We should cut meat subsudies and give produce subsudies.

And we're back to the same situation a couple weeks ago when I pointed that here in Bananamerica drugs are cheaper than food.

I would like to see a cut in beef subsidies. It would be cool if each city could set aside enough land to grow it's own vegetables and make it a community project.

I like cheap beef, so I'm just fine with it. I wouldn't mind cutting the sugar/oil subsidies and shifting it onto some fruits and nuts though.

I've suggested it before, but the government should install CCTV cameras in everyone's houses and mandate a certain excerscie time. People will be made to excercise, those that fail to do so for 3 times will be taken to a government run excerscie camp for a week or two to make up for it. I think this is a worthwhile soloution, after all the government has a duty to care for public health.
What's terrifying is that at this point, I don't know if you're joking or being serious.

Karalysia, don't ever stop.

Funny since odds are all 4 of those nations have health-care for all (not sure about Japan but willing to guess)
And my point was that we still do not, and will not, even after passing this...."reform".

It changed how money was spent therefore its budget issue
Bullcrap again. "Wide paintbrush" fallacy. By your definition, military spending would also be permitted under reconciliation, and I know you'd never stand for that!

Health care is not a budget issue, it's a health care issue.

TO bad the Dems were always try to work with the GOP on this however they vared more about trying to defeat the evil fascist socialist that want to kill grandma more then work with the Dems on anything.
Bullcrap also. The Dems never gave an inch on anything. You're just going "four legs good, two legs baaaaaad". If the Dems decided to triple U.S. defense spending, you'd probably support that.

But now this opens the floodgates to get slowly get health care reform accepted and pass.

And guess what, the law works with only wide paintbrush(in this case). Thats how the bill was written and thats how everyone has used.
Health care is not a budget issue, it's a health care issue.
But it changed how money was spent allowing reconciliation to be used

Dems didn't give an inch because they realized every Rep. was going to say no to it anyways so why give them a free inch while there at it. Yeah I be would against tripling defense spending since America has other problems then what could be saved with more guns.

Question to whomever feels that the dems should have negotiated more:

How do you negotiate with someone when you just sold the idea to your supporters that that someone is out to kill your grannie with that bill? Don't worry people who voted for me, and will hopefully vote for me in the future, I got them to compromise, so now they'll only kill granny a little bit, and in return we have TORT reform in? Is that what politics is like in the US nowadays? Is this the most democratic country in the world?

Once the Republicans decided that they weren't going to ease their supporters mind and even started participating in the scare-mongering, any sort of negotiation would be very difficult indeed. Compromise and they would look like they're in league with the tyrannical grannie-killing communists. Yeah, the voters will sure like that. Especially the ones who have been told by some nut-job that you just closed a deal with the Cancer that is destroying the foundations of America and believe it. The only deal they could have agreed on and not lose face was a 100% republican Health care Reform. And that's not going to happen when you just lost the election. Since, that is how democracy works you know.

What the Republicans did was lose control over the rhetoric used and hand it over to fruitcake talking heads who's interests are almost completely opposed to their own.

The problem is subsidies full stop. Once that happens I think Americans will be forced to eat healthier since many foods will become more expensive and thus force them to go on better foods like fruit and vegetables that most are not getting enough of. I know that it can work, since Australia does not subsidies our primary producers and yet we are competitive internationally.

Except for all that mercury and arsenic...

And parasites, don't forget parasites that probably would have been killed if the fish were cooked properly.

Cutting agricultural subsidies is just about the best thing we could do for our health, or for the environment.

Win. A through victory for the Democrats and a stinging defeat for the Republicans. :goodjob: This is easily some of the greatest legislation since the New Deal or the Great Society.

Hahahahahahahahaha

You call this a win.

A terrible product so watered down not even Krugman recognizes it and yet you call it a win.

If anything young fella, it is a win for everybody else so opposed to the public option.

I'm no expert of sushi, but my understanding was that the process, more or less fermentation, is a substitute for cooking?

And I agree that it really would be nice if we could zero out ag subsidies. I'm quite curious to see what the market would look like afterward. :)

Socialism isn't good enough. The UK needs Anarchy! Good pseudo-quackering.

Obama isn't a socialist and this biill while not perfect is in my opinion a change for the better in my country's health care system. It will take several years to how sucessful it is. The current gap between USA and Canada in about 3 years in life expectancy. If it is significantly reduced in 10 years the bill can be judged a sucess (i think if we follow through it will be). Unfortunately Americans aren't very patient so this may cost Obama politically.
