Reorganizing the Colosseum

So, we split OT. The Colosseum now looks like a mess, and admins/moderators are gauging sub-forum opinions on what they want to happen.

Perhaps having a rather global thread to discuss it in SF would speed up the process.

Here are my ideas:

Idea A) If we're sticking with this system, merge Sci into the Civilium. Merge Entertainment with Sports.

Idea B) Merge Sci into Comp. Merge Sports into Entertainment.

Idea C) (stole this from K-D) Create an entirely new sub-forum called Academia that combines the Sci and History sub-forums. Merge Sports with Entertainment.

Thoughts? Additional ideas?

Which would reduce the mess somewhat. (Plus Academia is better Latin than Forum Taberna - a forum named Taberna? - and Forum Civilium - forum of the civilians?)

Atm, it looks like we'll keep history, sports and comp talk as they are. No idea about A/E...

For S/T, it looks like we'll roll it into FC. The slower tempo of FC now fits in nicely with S/T type of discussions. In the long run, I hope that FC will become somewhat like the current history in tone and atmosphere... and we can moderate accordingly.

It says something unfortunate about the mods' expectations for the standards of quality in that forum.

I'm uncertain what problem all this merging would solve. "The Colosseum looks like a mess" isn't really a valid complaint in my mind; it just sounds like an aesthetic issue. As it stands, this just sounds like merging for the sake of merging.

Maybe the proponents of the merge could better illuminate why they want to do this?

As mentioned elsewhere, Forum Civilium and Forum Taberna may have been inspired by Civil Talk and Shop Talk. (Since ´taberna´ simply means shop. Ofcourse the forum usually was boarded with lots of shops, so the difference between forum talk and shop talk may have been minimal in Roman times... Equalizing ´forum´ with town square isn´t bad, actually.)

A huge proportion of the science and tech threads are interesting.

A vast majority of the history threads are boring.

Merging them together will not be helpful to me.

(And will be similarly unhelpful to a historian who doesn't like science.)

Doing so will hurt the dynamic of both forums. As it current stands, an Taberna thread can be started with a funny title but the intention is clear to discuss an issue (albeit, perhaps, a light-hearted discussion). If you merge Humor into Taberna, people will either have to determine what threads are discussion threads and what threads are humor threads, or Taberna will stop creating discussion threads that are at all amusing (which would be a shame), or the two will get mixed up and completely bollocks and we'll end up with a image board trading rage comics about politics.
