Resources

I'm working on beer (new improvement brewery), linen (alredy done), herbs, sugar from whitebeet
I'm looking for apples and amber, i wanted to do it myself, but since they have been made, where can i download it?

Isn't Silicon what they put in fake boobs?

I thought it was Silica that is a raw material used in CPU's.

Yeah, the similar names can be problematic. Here's a small chart.
Silicon=Element=Silvery Rock=Used for Computers
Silica=Silicon Dioxide=Used to Extract Silicon
Silicone=Compound=Caulking and Implants

As a trivia note, Silicon is also a critical element in quartz and glass, so maybe those could be early-age uses for it before computers?

How about Gravel. Gravel quarries are pretty common sites today and are the primary ingredient for concrete and cement which are basically used to make everything....

Also maybe some sort of wild game that appears in jungles and forests. Though i guess you could just make the Deer resource do that right now.

Yes I was thinking about gravel and also that flint/obsidian is similar to silicon.

Nice :). Maybe combind efforts.

They are already made? Not that I know of. This is just an list of resources that would be cool to have in civ4.

diAmonds and gems seem redundent.

Also, there are balance issues with adding a billion individual fruits if you make them all grant happiness or health. And why the hate for Papaya and Mangos, eh? Or Kiwi. Grapefruit.. Oranges... It's a slippery slope.

Also where are your nuts? Other then the Haze-nut. Hazelnut. Winery for Currants but not for Pears or Apples? What about for Plums?

And where's the pickeling improvement? How about the drying hut for dried fruits? The smoke pit for smoked meats?

Hens? Why not chickens? And what about Ox?

I think it's MamMoths, btw... Pheasent and Rabbits? Don't you think these are all potentially covered by *Game*? 'cept for Camels.

Rather then Papyrus, you should go for Reeds.

The only serious addition I might point out would be Platinum (other then one's I think have already been suggested).

Really, though it's a question of where you draw the line, and what abstractions you want to use. Tropical Fruit, Citrus Fruits, Tree Fruits (apples, pears, etc.), Berries...

Anyway...

These are just some ideas I have
I am not sure if some of these have already been mentioned.

Seal: Inuits and Eskimos hunt these
Llama: Important pack animal of Incan empire
Reindeer: Most important animal for Lapplanders, not hunted but domesticated
Water Buffalo: Plow animal for much of South-east asia...asian flavor of cattle?
Citrus Fruits? takes care of Lemons and oranges and all others
Olives. Olive Oil...important Mediterranean foodsource
Turkey: Only domesticated animal in North America besides dog before Columbus
Camels: Strategic Resource for different units...also invloved in trade

Ones that aren't very good, but I will write them anyway
Barley...probably redundant anyway
Yams...Yum
Donkey: Pack Animal
Soybean: Too many farm things I guess
Oats: See Above
Millet: See Above
Sqash: See Above
Lentils: See Above
Flax: Could be a woven resource and foodsource
Poultry? Maybe takes care of Turkey and Chicken without getting too many resources
Yak: Important to some I'm sure, but for Civ...

Food for thought...

Patricius

EDIT: Papyrus is cool, maybe you could make Great Library need it or something...

Yes all wont add health and happyness. And yes I have not excluded any resources on purpose. Will take all suggestions in consideration. Good points.

Will try to add new features to resources to make them more different and not just stack alot of health/happyness.

Thats good.... I know one idea i heard once was to categorize some resources as "Elite." Meaning that their availability wouldnt really help create social order in the form of a happy face for the masses but would mainly only benefit the affluent and elite of society. And since the elite of civ 4 are really just Great People, perhaps they could give a slight benefit to this somehow...

Yes it's true....
but.. if i make map of one continent or one country i heve not enough resources to place.
For example i make map of Poland and it wouldn't be nice to see in northern poland plantation of bananas or farm of rice
so why apples, potatoes (in my mod it appears on the map after discovering optics = with exploration of new world,), linen, herbs and so on so are much important for me (chicken also would be welcome but here are problems with 3D animations :)

Ok It would be nice :)
Do you know 3D graphics?
Do you have ICQ or mail?

Well I will grant that there is basically no downside to having more resource models (or any other kind of model) available. Personally I think more is great 8). It was just a question of why put them all into the same mod, other then for exhibition purposes 8).

Treat ths rather like a mod component, but 'very green' mod also would be nice :)

asioasioasio:
Yes good idea. We should just add as many resources as possible before making new features. So other modders can choose which ones they want.
I have just moved and doesn't have internet connection yet. My parents comp is old and without civ4, so I can't work on mods much yet. Still I can collect data and make lists and stats :p. Will update the resource list later today.

Updated the list. Tell me if I made any errors, especially if I should move a resource to some other improvement.

Later on I will make a shorter list that removes some redudant resources.

@ woodelf - i'm working on (medicinal) herbs

@ Zuul - I wan't to make also sugar from white (sugar) beets -> it appears lately in game (XVIII century - probably it will be astronomy because sea blocades during napoleonic wars made this plant very popular in europe)

Maybe Sugar Beets could be kind of like synthsized sugar...because sugar beets can be grown most anywhere. Maybe you build a certain buiding or improvment later in the game, once you get the technology, and you have sugar, and you break the monopoly on sugar cane. This idea could be extended to a lot of items which can be sythensized by modern technology..(i.e. rubber, pearls, diamonds)

Good idea :)
But it should be made - as a improvment on the map or rather national wonder in the city? Wich solution is better?

With this mod, should we try as many imoprovement as possible or as few as possible? (like in FairStart mod)
