I just think a fourth Hellenic civ right now would be overkill. If they hadn't gone and added Alexander the Civ... I mean "Macedon" then I would've been fighting tooth and nail to have Byzantium at the very top of the list, but since they went ahead and made an entire civilization dedicated to slobbering on Alexander's sandals rather than just making him Greek (or making Macedon... you know... actually Macedon rather than exclusively just Alexander's highly Greek Macedon) I'd say we've had enough Hellenistic Fusion for the time being, I definitely want them in a later DLC or expansion but for now I want some new cultures.

I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't a big fan of Etheopia's inclusion in Civ 5 at first and thought there were better and more deserving and/or interesting Sub-Saharan picks, however after looking into their history and learning more about them both in independent studies and for work purposes I've come to appreciate what they bring to the table. A bastion of Christendom in the middle of highly Islamic states or tribes practicing traditional folklore, a major trading center along the seaborne silk route (back when it was known as the Kingdom of Aksum), and maintaining diplomatic skills and military modernization necessary to remain un-colonized long after its neighbors fell. They are quite atypical for an African civ, and while I would still prefer to see Nigeria or Xhosa this is a list of returning civs not prospective ones, and I would like to see Ethiopia's return.

    Going for random votes now...
    Assyrians 8
    Babylonians 26

    Malians 21
    Mayans 21
    Mongols 26 + 1 = 27 - a very important civ
Moroccans 4 - 3 = 1 - We already have the Arabs, so the Moroccans, although unique, are not a high priority now

Babylonians 26+1=27 IMHO, along with Mongolia, these two are my highest priorities. After them, we need more in SE Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Americas.
    Byzantines 14
    Carthaginians 15
Dutch 13-3=10 Keeping them roughly even with Portugal. I do want them both back, once the other gaps are properly filled.

It looks like the past few posts were missed as well, as the other totals are off.

@Zaarin: if you'd please resubmit your vote, you'll need to copy the most recent totals from the previous poster. Thanks!

I've straightened out all the votes, as follows.

I've ensured that Dirk, Zaarin and Manifold's votes are all accounted for. Manifold was going off Zaarin's numbers, so I've corrected Songhai accordingly.

Zaarin still gets to cast an extra negative vote, since the Moors were already down for the count. Everybody else can feel free to resume normal voting.

Ottoman Turks (19+1)=20 They weren't given a great Ability in Civ5, but I feel like they are needed for Civ, there is a lot Firaxis can do with them, plus there is a unique model for the Janissary (check out Legacy of Jadwiga scenario)

Songhai 2-3=0 Songhai is eliminated! It's Mali's time to shine!

I don't have any real beef with Khmer, I would just prefer to have Siam or the Indonesians first as those are the ones I find more interesting to me personally from a historical and cultural standpoint. I'd keep downvoting my standbys but I feel I'm starting to get stale so I'm going to mix it up a tad. Would've just downvoted Mali again since I'd still prefer to see Songhai but eh, it would be kind of pointless without me being able to upvote them in the first place now wouldn't it? Besides, I still stand firm in my belief that they could go multiple leader with Songhai, Mali, and Ghana represented by one base civ (most likely Ghana since they were the first) with multiple leaders to represent the 3 kingdoms as if we're going to lump all of China's dynasties into one unified civ based on their shared culture I think a collective Ghana would be fine as they are about as close (if not closer) than China's dynasties or Russia's Kievan-Rus/Grand Duchy of Muscovy/Tsarist Russia/USSR. Wait, what was I talking about again? Oh right! Khmer. Meh, more interested in other options.

As for the Ottomans I don't feel like there is much I need to say. They are one of the most influential and widely known empires to ever exist that struck fear in the hearts of even the most far off peoples who heard of their great might, and attracted scholars and traders from around the world with its magnificent wealth and bustling cities. They were a power to be reckoned with on three continents and combined the culture and teachings of all three to make a unique culture of its own. It is both a crime that they weren't in the base game and a greater injustice that they are so low in this ranking.

Hittites 17 (16+1) I consider this to be more interesting than many other civs in history. It's more like a strange anachronism that really existed. Should be much more known about in general education. Sadly, it's always marginalized, because the civ is not as important as others historically and didn't leave that much of a direct legacy (which just stresses the anachronism thing). A good representation in a civ game could help here. And I think cool abilities are easy to come by.
Incas 27 (30-3) obviously a favorite, and rightfully so. But why is this the leader? Because we lack a mountain civ? Because we need South America? Because we need Native Indians? Or because the Incas were just that awesome? It will always be the same leaders and abilities over and over again.
