My gaming laptop was out of comission for a few days, and my parent's laptop is rather lacking in gaming capability. While browsing through my games, looking for one that runs, I re-found C3C. SO I installed that and played it.

How I ever thought Civ 4 was better is beyond me now. Sure, the graphics are better (as in more realistic, not asthetic value) in Civ4, but the gameplay is more fun in Civ 3. All those nice touches such as the city view, the throne room and easter eggs, just seem to highlight the different attitudes between Civ 3 and Civ 4.

So now that my gaming laptop is fixed, I'm reinstalling Civ 3 on it. Hopefully it won't have issues with Vista.

I didn't get into mods until Civ4 however, so what are the best ones for C3C?

I personally like this fantasy-type one: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=122232
It's quite entertaining, it just wasn't bug-free when I played it; I remember the game stalling every time a new type of swordsman became available. And then you had to add a dot or something in the editor for the game to continue. You would need to check the thread to see how to do that, or to see whether it has finally been patched.

Civ III should run fine on vista.

It took a bit of working around (renaming a font file in the conquest folder) but it did work in Vista in the end. And that doesn't seem to be a Vista issue, just a certain computers issue.

Welcome Back, Tony. I have Civ4 for both the Mac and Windows, and after installing it and playing it (sort of, my computers were borderline for it), promptly returned to Civ3, and removed Civ4 from both computers. Poke around in the Creation and Customization forum if you are looking for mods, and also graphics.

For a complete and utter change, I played Zombie Island (I can't remeber which iteration). I absolutely stunk at it but the idea, the units, the plot were an utter hoot. I plan to come back to it when I can take the time to learn the tech tree, units etc.
Lord of the Mods is nice too for a change form the historical-esque setting of civ.

Nice to have you back! Yes, Civ3 is much better, the reason that I ever played civ4 is no longer in my memory. There is no problem on Vista, that's all that I play it on now. If it is a widescreen (like mine) it may stretch it a tiny bit, but that is balanced out by how good the graphics look on the new screen. The best mod? BY FAR, the best mod is your own, as you can make it however you like. If I download a mod, I only play it once and then use it for inspiration and\or graphics. Cuz' that's just how I roll. ;)
