Reuters Alters Images Again

I bet they are anti-Semitic, too.

Indeed. What I find really ironic here is that we have no idea how much creative cropping, or even creative Photoshopping, the Israelis did to the original image, since they have yet to release their own raw footage or any of the raw video or raw images taken by the protestors.

Uh...the 'original image' was released by the IHH...you know, the group that put the flotilla together....not the Israelis....so the conspiracy of 'the Israelis messed with it!!' pretty much fails on its face right off the bat.

From the OP:

The uncut photo released by IHH shows the hand of an unidentified activist holding a knife.

I highlighted the appropriate word for you there.

PROTIP: It helps if you read the OP.

seriously, there is no defense for this. Just admit people with your ideology can be scumbags too and move on.

I still can't honestly see why Reuter's should be planting propaganda against Israel, especially when thier whole purpose is to be as bland and objective as possible.

Am I missing something?

Every news photo is cropped. This photo editor was bad in that he coloured the meaning of the image. For this he was fired.

Good. A man was bad at his job so he lost it.

Uh...the 'original image' was released by the IHH.
Hmm. I thought all the video and photos were confiscated by the Israelis. As it turns out, they actually did "delete" them, but the images were apparently recovered after the fact.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...-bloody-Israeli-commando-after-Gaza-raid.html

Attracting accusations of attempting to cover up what really happened during the raid, Israeli forces confiscated video footage, audio recordings and photographs from activists and journalists it detained after the raid.

But in this instance, they failed. The activist who took the photographs was a member of IHH, the Turkish group linked to Islamic extremists that was at the centre of the raid. IHH said it managed to restore the images thanks to "superior Turkish technology" and they were duly published by Hurriyet, Turkey's largest circulation newspaper.

The group apparently thought the photographs would embarrass Israel and show how their activists ministered to wounded Israeli soldiers even as their colleagues lay dying.

But the IDF has welcomed the publication of the pictures, saying they were "clear and unequivocal proof" that the activists "intended to kill Israeli soldiers".
 And you support these propagandizing fools who have deliberately tried to destroy the all evidence which shows them in a bad light!

Cropping or resizing to fit a page or something is entirely different to cropping/resizing it to edit out pertinent parts of the photo. They could have run the photo with the knife being seen just as well as the cropped version without the knife. Someone just didnt want the 'humanitarians' to be seen wielding weapons.

Didnt Mobboss defend FOXNEWS for editing in footage and inflating numbers of teaparty protesters ? Dosnt Mobboss often defend accidental "mistakes" by FOXNEWS all the time? By pointing out how other agencies accidently make "mistakes"

Didnt Mobboss Defend FOXNEWS for putting in (D) where there should be a (R) ?

I have a feeling this thread will be necroed come the next FOXNEWS the usual business thread gets posted. And a certain unnamed someone comes and defend a certain news organisation.

Why aren't you complaining about that?

Didn't enter the discussion about the flotilla. Until now. Both sides obviously have stuff to hide.

People of all ideologies can be scumbags, that obviously true.

But I'm not just going to say Reuters has some sort of anti-Israel bias just because of this photo being cropped, for points others have made.

Now then, Fox News's (D) confusion issue is another story, because its done repeatedly. If you want to say Reuters is biased, I'm going to need another few instances of something like this occurring.

To me, why would they even be bothered to remove the knife? It look like a kitchen knife. Maybe he's the ship's chef who suddenly decided to grab the nearest sharp pointy thing when the Israeli Commandos boarded the ship. Kinda funny to me, I wouldn't be grabbing a kitchen knife if Israeli Commandos came to my house. Kinda useless if you ask me.

Read the OP. They did it before during the Beirut campaign.

Looking at the first pic, it actually looks more like a hunting knife.

Which I doubt is very useful for cooking.

They had a hunting knife. Oh no. Guess what, it wouldn't have been a problem if the Israelis hadn't boarded their effing boat. What, are they worried about some Gazan getting ahold of a hunting knife? Oh, the horror that would ensue, how would anyone sleep at night!

Maybe it is for cutting lamb bones, if that is what the knife is for, only if indeed he was the chef - or maybe a Steven Steagal in Under Siege.

Have you seen how any FOXNEW threads for media manipulation there have been just for this year never mind upto four years ago? It seems like every week the DailyShow and Colbert Report catch FOXNEWS pushing there blatent lies non stop.

GlennBeck claimed that only news organisation showing mediafootage of isrealies being beatern were Foxnews and you could NOT watch it on any other US media company .... except for CNN, MSNBC, PBS, Dailyshow.

What next Obamas terrorist fist bump? Oh wait .....

Didnt Mobboss defend FOXNEWS for editing in footage and inflating numbers of teaparty protesters ?

Uhm...nope. And guess what? I am not the topic. Reuters is. Care to comment abou them?

Dosnt Mobboss often defend accidental "mistakes" by FOXNEWS all the time? By pointing out how other agencies accidently make "mistakes"

Other agencies do make mistakes. I dont expect news services to be error free. Are you saying this was just an error?

Didnt Mobboss Defend FOXNEWS for putting in (D) where there should be a (R) ?

No, I wouldnt defend such a mistake. But I dont buy into some conspiracy that they do it purposefully.

I have a feeling this thread will be necroed come the next FOXNEWS the usual business thread gets posted. And a certain unnamed someone comes and defend a certain news organisation.

I think a certain someone needs to stay focused on the thread topic and not other posters.

Of course cropping is a normal and usual thing. However, the media's job is to inform. When a great part of the debate surrounding a story involves whether or not one side was armed or unarmed, the parts of pictures that show the answer should not be edited out. This is either bad reporting or a political move exposed. I suspect it is the former.
