RFCE: Civilopedia Texts

If you've already done it, it's OK. And I don't mind the style as long as you don't double-space between paragraphs. So not styles 2 or 3 though I can't see the difference between them.:D

What I mean about spacing is when the notepad text is pasted into the box some sentences stop in mid-line and appear broken like this.

TABxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxx.
TABxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

Text should be justified on the left and right margins like this, except for the tab and end of paragraph;

TABxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx.
TABxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx.

I'd illustrate from the Civilopedia but my DVD player has stopped working and I can't access the game right now. Sorry.

Now I know what you mean. I agree and I already tried to prevent it, but I can forget some. And if their is a long word, it can be shown on the next line and I can prevent it. But I my text updates were the way you (and I) want.

Here are the last of the Civilopedia unit texts (already tabbed for you.:D). They should be OK but give them a quick check before committing them to sourceforge. OK?
Thanks.:)

Sorry. Miss-spelt your name.

Personaly I would prefer to see the standard civ:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxx.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxx.
I see no reason for you to insert spacing when it is not nesecary and does not look good.

I tend to agree. But it's all been changed to include tabs now, and I can live with that. If people really object we can change it back after the next version. More important to finish the texts themselves first.:)

I've inserted the tabs because most texts have them in the vanilla game.

Most scientific articles use them too, because it makes those more readable. It's especially useful if you want to skim a text, it saves loads of time. OTOH, the civilopedia isn't exactly scientific so it doesn't matter that much.

QUESTION: What are faith points, and what are they used for?

ANSWER: Faith points are acquired via doing any sort of religious things, regarding your state religion. The more of them you have, the more you will enjoy the benefits of your religion.

And BTW, because it is not good to self-proclaim as somebody, I proclaim you "Official Byzantium-Biased Playtester XD

LOL cool! Thanks XD i'll change my signature soon LOL.

"Benefits of your religion" i think the benefits of Catholicism in the game is pretty obvious. Crusades, pope related stuff i guess.

What about the benefits of Orthodoxy, Islam and Protestantism? (Maybe even Judaism)

It's all in the Civilopedia. Orthodoxy gives stability and reduced civic upkeep. Islam gives city growth and unit production bonuses. Protestantism gives research and wonder bonuses, if I recall correctly.

Hmm ok thanks :) i think the civilopedia should include some real figures too. Like when u say stability, maybe include by just how much per faith point, that kinda thing

Judaism doesn't have a special power, I think it's not even possible to pick it as a state religion, this is good since it will be very un-historical for any civ in this mod to switch to it.

I found this text for Sweden in the GEM mod. But I don't know if it's good enough. So please give your opinion.

This isn't the final text, because there are many typo's etc.

Spoiler :
:):):):):)Soon after the recession of the last ice age, Sweden became populated by hunters and gatherers, during the Stone Age (6000 BC - 4000 BC). The region developed rather slowly compared to southern Europe; while the Romans wrote poetry, Scandinavia had just entered the Iron Age.[PARAGRAPH:2]Sweden was first mentioned in the 1st century, by Roman historian Tacitus, who wrote that the Suiones tribe lived out in the sea and were powerful in both arms and ships. This referred to the inhabitants of eastern Sweden: Svealand, primarily around lake M?ren; Sigtuna, and Birka. From this tribe, Sweden derived its name (see Etymology of Sweden). The southern parts, on the other hand, were inhabited by Geats (G?) in the G?and territory. Little is known for certain about that time, but chronicles based on Norse sagas and the Beowulf epic go back about 2,000 years.[PARAGRAPH:2]During the Viking Age of the 9th and Jonkopingth century, Swedish vikings travelled east setting their mark on the Baltic countries, Russia whose name comes from the Finnish name for these Vikings: Rus (the Finnish name for Sweden is Ruotsi), the Black Sea, further through the rivers of Russia down south to Constantinople and southern Europe. The Swedish Vikings were somewhat different from their Norwegian and Danish counterparts as they were not as warrior minded but instead were more merchant and settler minded.[PARAGRAPH:2]With Christianization in the Umeath century, the country became consolidated, with its centre in the agri-cultural regions of ?terg?nd and V?erg?nd and later on also in the water-ways of the northern Baltic and the Gulf of Finland. In the Borasth century Sweden, like the rest of Europe, was struck by the Black Death (the Plague), with all its effect.[PARAGRAPH:2]During the middle ages, the expansion of Sweden into the northern wilderness of Laplandia, the Scandinavian peninsula, and present-day Finland continued. Finland was a part of Sweden proper from the early thirteenth century until KarlstadNorrkoping.[PARAGRAPH:2]In Gavle89, Norway, Denmark and Sweden were united under a single monarch in a treaty known as the Kalmar Union. After several wars and disputes between these nations, King Gustav I of Sweden (House of Vasa) broke free in EskilstunaSundsvall and established a nation state. The Tabyth century saw the rise of Sweden as one of the Great Powers in Europe, due to successful participation, initiated by King Gustav II Adolph, in the Thirty Years' War and by Charles X Gustav of Sweden in the The Deluge of Poland. Mighty as it was, it crumbled in the Karlstadth century with Imperial Russia taking the reins of northern Europe in the Great Northern War, and finally in KarlstadNorrkoping when the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland was created out of the eastern half of Sweden.[PARAGRAPH:2]By the HalmstadSkovdes Sweden had achieved one of Europe's highest living standards. Sweden remained neutral during World War I and World War II, although its neutrality during World War II has been disputed, as it was under German influence for most of the war. Following the war, Sweden took advantage of its natural resources and lack of war damage, making it possible to expand its industry to supply the rebuilding of Europe, leading it to be one of the richest countries in the world by Halmstad60. Sweden was part of the Marshall Plan but continued to stay non-aligned during the Cold War, and is still not a member of any military alliance. During most of the post-war era, the country was ruled by the Swedish Social Democratic Party that established a welfare state, striving for a "well being for all"-policy. Following a recession in the early Halmstad90s some socialist policies were relaxed. Sweden, despite its officially neutral stance, joined the European Union in Halmstad95, arguing that neutrality was less important in the post-Cold War world.

Errr....Gavle stands for 13 (Gavle89?!), and Halmstad for 19? (this is the first time I hear that the Swedes enter the EU in Halmstad95  )
BTW, should the civilopedia entry include the whole historical information for Sweden, or only the Medieval Ages regarding ones?

IMO it doesn't matter. Some vanilla civs have allmost the whole history (like the Dutch)

Sorry. Miss-spelt your name.

I've bumped this thread to keep it alive and because some of the Civilopedia texts have still to be done.
I've also noticed that some texts I submitted may not have been merged into sourceforge yet.
I'm reposting them here so they can be added to the next version.

Civics changes mean we need new Civilopedia texts. Here are texts for Feudal Monarchy and Market Economy.

Hi,

As you can tell, I'm new as a member here but I'd like to see if if I can help a little bit. When I downloaded RFCEurope I noticed that even though the mod's simply outstanding, there still some work to be done, like in the Civilopedia. I found this thread and noticed that you were still looking for some people to write some as yet unwritten entries, so I decided, "Hmm, I'll try to write one." Hopefully the thread's not outdated, but I saw that no one had written anything for the Accesses yet, so I wrote on for East Asia. I did a little research, opened Word, typed, trimmed, proofread, and did a little fixing up and ended up with this. If you like it I'll write for the other three Accesess, and maybe some other the other. Hope this helps:).
