Richard Blumenthal (D) LIES about Vietnam Service

Pot kettle black. Once again, no its not "Old CivGeneral is at it again". Republicans claim to be the masters of infallibility. untill sex scandals and lies come creeping out of there closets.

They dont claim nothing of the sort....and both sides experience sex scandals in case you missed it.

Democrats don't claim infallibility, Republicans do. As long as the Democrats are to remain in power, they have free excuses. The longer the Republicans remain a minority in Capital Hill, the better!

As long as democrats remain in power they have free excuses?

Wow. Once the GOP gets back in control I cant wait to throw that one right back at you to see how you react to it.

Indifferent. Also, it's quite convenient that you ignore the other candidate, who is a Republican, with her history with the WWF/WWE and other hot button issues.

Ah...CivGeneral...this is for the democrat primary there....the other candidate is a democrat....:p

Wow. Just wow.

This one with Richard Blumenthal is relatively minor compared to the garbage the Republicans spew out.

Riiiiight.

yeah, i think linda's going to have a hard time with her husband's promiscious skits, her "catonic" angle, and that whole necrophilia thing hhh did.

lolwut??

Longer Clip of Blumenthal's Speech Posted By McMahon

During the same speech where Attorney General Richard Blumenthal made the statement about his service record that put him under fire, he also said he "served in the military, during the Vietnam era."

The speech was made in March 2008 during a ceremony in Norwalk. A video clip from the speech posted by The New York Times shows Blumenthal saying he "served in Vietnam."

But a longer version of the video posted by Linda McMahon, his Republican opponent, also shows Blumenthal saying at the beginning of his speech that he "served in the military, during the Vietnam era." When it's posted is not clear, but the commenting on it started on Tuesday.

Yesterday, Blumenthal, a Democrat, held a news conference and defended himself, saying he misspoke.

“On a few occasions, I have misspoken about my service and I regret that. I take full responsibility, but I will not allow anyone to take a few misplaced words and impugn my record of service,” he said. “I may have misspoken. I did misspeak on a few occasions out of hundreds I have attended.”

Blumenthal was in the Marine Reserves but was not deployed to Vietnam.

Former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, a Republican, spoke with the Times and he said that over time, Blumenthal kept revising how he talked about his military service during the Vietnam War.

In the 1980s, he was humble but them made more sweeping claims, said Shays, who told the Times that Blumenthal is a "person of high intergrity" and he regretted not speaking up earlier.

“I think that it was a way that he quickly bonded with people I am sure he admired and respected,” Shays said.

Clip watchable Here.

You yanks with your crazy-arse military service circlejerk

Hear hear.

One's education in governmental matters would be more imporatant to me than how many Fish Head Commies they murdered back in 'Nam.

here's another  @ the (D)

Just to make it clear...I wasnt the one that started that. It was done simply in reply to FFs thread about Souder. So, in that aspect, I am glad you find it funny...;P

I was assuming he was Republican, because every time there is a scandal involving a Republican politician, Fox puts a (D) by his name.

So much for trying to make this quoted-out-of-context molehill into a mountain. It really defied logic that a prospective senator would deliberately lie about something which was so eminently easy to discern.

Perhaps if Blumenthal actually does become a senator by beating a woman who was an "executive" of fake pro wrestling, he can reopen an investigation of that shoddy whitewash of GWB ducking Vietnam service on the basis of who his dad and grandfather were.

I did not missed anything. It's the Republicans that tend to get the most flak when the poo hits the fan blades.

Wow. Once the GOP gets back in control I cant wait to throw that one right back at you to see how you react to it.
I'd be in Canada by the time that happens. After facing the disaster known as the Bush Administration, I dont want to see a Republican ruled government for a LONG LONG time.

Wow. Just wow.
Who gets the most time in the spotlight? Richard. I already know that there are OTHER democratic candidates and that this is the primaries. This is not about the other primary candidates, this is about Richard himself.

If Richard is on the ballot. I would in a heartbeat vote for him over Rob Simmons. I don't base my vote on the basis of whether he lied or not to the vets (Even if he didint lied, he could have chosen his words better to better reflect that he served in the Vietnam Era).

Riiiiight.
You just keep your snide remarks to yourself.

It's just funny in general.. You wouldn't really expect someone to do this if they were a democrat, or the opposite if they were a republican. At least on this site.. American politics cracks me up sometimes. Wish people would at least try to be consistent..

Now wait a second. Is this a promise to move to Canada if the GOP wins and regains power?

Who gets the most time in the spotlight? Richard. I already know that there are OTHER democratic candidates and that this is the primaries. This is not about the other primary candidates, this is about Richard himself.

Uhm. If you dont think his democrat opponent in the primary is going to try and make the most of this you are sadly mistaken.

Errr. Once again, you quote a very old post with some odd comment along with it. Sometimes I just dont get you FF.

Uhm. If you dont think his democrat opponent in the primary is going to try and make the most of this you are sadly mistaken.
I'm not "sadly mistaken". Also, [Citation Needed] in reference to "democrat opponents going to use it against him". Snide remarks don't help your points dear MobBoss.

Besides the fact, even before this event, Richard had the spotlight and shadowing his other Democratic Opponents in the primaries.

It's actually more similar the John Kerry, who during the 2004 election campaign bragged about his service on the swift boats, until journalists checking with the actual crews found out he was a lying headquarters puke.

John Kerry was a headquarters officer. None of the actual crewmen on the boats ever remember him on a mission. He had insinuated, with false modesty, that he had been. He was finally forced to admit he had not. It hurt him in the election. Mr. Blumenthal may have made the same mistake, though to his credit, he has apologized for any misunderstanding. "Headquarters Puke" is the usual slang employed by the grunts to refer to the Officers and enlisted men who work in the safety of the rear areas, and who award themselves Purple Hearts for paper cuts. It's a kind of justifiable prejudice among soldiers and marines.

Do you have a link to him admitting he was never on a mission? I remember the Swift Boats for Truth comedy, but not him admitting he was never on a mission.

I'm an old guy, and I actually saw news conferences and stuff way back in 2004, without links. I call it... "organic memory".

That's ok. I went into snopes, factcheck and truthorfiction.

All tell me Kerry was on missions, and it's supported by all of his crewmen, also the swiftboaters. Of the swiftboaterd only one (Steve Gardner) actually served with Kerry on his missions. The other men who were on that boat with him actually speak rather positive of him. I found quotes from Fred Short, David Alston and James Wasner.

So I believe your statement: "None of the actual crewmen on the boats ever remember him on a mission" is due to inconsistencies in ... "organic memory" :)
