Rick Perry

Why are people referring to him as delusional, a fanatic, extremist or loony?

Because the guy prays?

I think everyone who prays is a loony, to be honest, but that's beside the point.

Well, fwiw, I think the reverse. So where does that get us?

So again I ask. Why is he deserving of all the labels being flung about here? Is it merely because he is a republican?

I kinda think so.

While this might not matter in Texas, I can't see the nation as a whole being okay with this:

Basically guy was wrongfully executed and Perry did nothing to stop it, and then tried to cover it up.

So there's something illegal to latch onto.

Large number of executions including some with serious questions about guilt? That didn't stop Chimpy McFlightsuit.

Well, fwiw, I think anyone who doesnt is. So where does that get us?

I dunno. Maybe through the power of prayer you can see the future?

So again I ask. Why is he deserving of all the labels being flung about here? Is it merely because he is a republican?

I kinda think so.

And you would think wrong.

White with lots of hair?

How does Obama not look like a POTUS?

White? (Edit: darn, downtown beat me to it)

You guys are so silly!

Herman Cain looks like a President should, too. Slightly older, with a good posture, tough looking...I think Obama looks too young.

This forum has long lost its political objectivity, if it ever had it.

The large number of executions isn't the issue. It's the one where the guy was innocent... combined with the slight issue of Perry then doing his best to cover the whole thing up.

Well, he is young compared to most of them. And he looks a lot younger than Kennedy, although Kennedy was younger. So yeah, he doesn't look "Presidential" in the sense of his age.

That said, that doesn't really matter to me.

And I doubt Dreadnought was thinking specifically of Obama when his statement was made.

Absolutely terrific at winning elections, but has presided over the deterioration of this state.

Seconded. Everyone seems to want to talk up his job-creation record, but it should also be noted that wages in Texas are generally lower than the national average. We have the highest percentage of minimum wage workers of any state. And in addition, some of the highest rates of poverty, high-school dropouts, and teen pregnancy in the nation.

Perry has largely achieved the appearance of fiscal responsibility with accounting tricks. Not to mention federal stimulus money. The fact is, Texas, like just about every other state, is in deep financial manure. The education cuts which Perry has presided over are a testament to this.

Libertarians also take note: Perry pushed through a requirement for all pre-teen girls to get the Gardasil vaccine, with virtually no review and over the vocal objections of parents and schools. Could it have had something to do with the massive contributions he got from big pharma? Fortunately, this was one of the few cases where he had to back off.

In short, if anyone wants to take Rick Perry's Texas as a role model for how the U.S. as a whole should be run, they should be aware that they're really buying into a future as a sleazy 3rd world banana republic.

I've said it a thousand times, I'd much rather have Paul than Perry. There are some things I respect about the latter, but he does miss it in a lot of areas for me. I'd vote for him over Obama, but I don't really "Support" him in a real sense.

Does it bother you that he has made seperatist remarks regarding your country? Cause if someone from Wexford or Leitrim tried that here, Gorey or Carrick-on-Shannon would end up like Grozny

Not really, America is being pretty stupid right now, and secession is constituionally protected regardless of what the courts say.

Why is it that Obama is a Nazi-Stalinist-Communist-America hating tratior, yet Perry is someone to be admired, despite having literally called for seccession and for essentially expressing his desire to destroy America via leaving it?

Bush executed innocent people too. He also mocked Karla Faye Tucker (although she admitted she was guilty). Didn't hurt him, even when his opponent was an incumbent VP after 8 years of peace and prosperity. Don't see why people will care now. (Not saying it's right, just saying they won't care.)
