Rise of Mankind 2.8 Feedback and bug reports

I know events are going to get looked at eventually and I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I'm not sure where else to mention it. The event where an explorer finds oil is supposed to have an option that reveals all oil resources, but it doesn't work (I think it took my 12 gold just fine, though).

Oh, and I'm quite happy with the reduced upgrade costs. I have 12k gold saved up and can upgrade at will. Though some of my cities still seem to get an instability penalty for 'financial trouble.'

The RoM 2.8Hotfix link isn't working on the first post.
I had missed that link when I updated the hotfix. Link fixed now in this thread's first post. I'll post today (after work) a new hotfix which has some more small python fixes, tweak to storms and couple button fixes to interface.

Hi.

Have a good machine, as far as I am aware drivers are all up to date.

Getting CTDs. Here are two that happened consecutively. The autosaves are for CTD1 and CTD2.

Running a smartmap standard with revolutions and barbarian civ. No other mods other than what are in 2.8.

It is real early so there should be no strain on computer resources. The crash occurs just prior to my turn starting.

CTD3 is another one that was same settings but without revolutions.
I'm new to RoM but would love to play it more. I'm getting CTD's early in games. I'm using BtS 3.19, RoM 2.8 with Hotfix applied, English language, on a XP machine. Logs and saved game attached. The crash occurs two turns after saved games, right after notification that galley has been lost due to storm.

Love the RoM mod so far, especially new tech tree additions. What a huge amount of work must have gone into it!

One other thing -- I have a standard install of BtS and a Steam install of Warlords.
Last night tested your posted saved games and they didn't crash on my computer and I played a while (20-30turns) those saves without any problems...

Zappara, could you merge these new events into the next 2.8 version?:deal:
I just noticed that thread so yes, I might... though v2.9 ;)

I'm certian it is specific to my computer but nfi what is causing it... if it is happening to me though im sure it is happening to others.

When I have time I'll reinstall civ4 and see how it goes from there.

Zappara, I want to report my experiment with stripping away the storms to see how speed improves. As suggested by Afforess. (Notice: he may had different method in mind, but still ) I stripped away storm feature from XML and played the game. The speed improves very noticeably.

So, I propose that you should sit down with your storm feature and figure out how to reduce the stress caused by storms as much as possible and still stay with your original ideas relating them.

Playing on a giant map (RoM Custom Continents), I have gotten the event you mentioned, paid my gold, and it did reveal oil. Not sure what would cause the difference. As for your 'financial trouble', I believe that instability penalty applies when you are losing money each turn, or possibly if just that city is costing more in maintenance than they produce in commerce, or gold, although that's just a theory.

I just noticed something strange with the storms.

The first pic has a storm on a coast and a worker one tile away from it. As you can see, one of the workers is hidden behind the storm.

The second pic shows the camera in diagonal view and the storm is apparently hiding one of the workers with an invisible wall.

Its nothing major, but i just thought i post it to see if any one else experienced it.

Erii, there might have been something else going on with my game. I had stopped for the day one turn later, but when I went to load it this morning, I got an error message about 'failed to unpack' something or other. Which was present on the latest autosave, but not the one before the event occurred. Which may be related to the 'event manager' error message I keep getting.

I've been seeing this too. I am losing saves left and right... Some will open, others, suddenly, fail...

I actually like the slower city growth, as historically pre-industrial growth was very slow. Was thinking about people saying "too much food" especially in the modern in later eras. But it is not as much as one thinks when you look at how population is represented in the game. I tend to think of a "city" as a metropolitan era as opposed to just the city limits. i.e. all the villages and towns are included in the city population. Based on that, NYC should be a size 60 right now (NYC MSA has 19M people currently). Size would be 40 just based on the actual city itself. Working those specialist as opposed to city tiles is also a good representation of needing less citizens involved in food production.

I just get alot of the memory allocation errors.... please help?

MAFs tends to require you to go one size smalle for the maps, or use Custom Game and reduce the numbers of civilizations. Other than that, nothing anyone here in the forum can do except few tiny tweakings done to your Windows.

The tweaks with the /userva 2900 fixed the MAFs for me... mostly. Still no gigantic terra maps, but the storms make the wait unbearable on that size anyway.

The Hotfix that adressed the Storm frequency has helped.

I've completed about 150 game years today (1400AD to 1550~AD). The storms are "slowly" dissipating and lanes are beginning to open up for ocean travel.

Frigates, Galleons, etc., still can't be trusted to go across the oceans on their own and not park under a storm at the end of their turn. In fact the ship logic for movement seems to want to place a ship in a storm at the end of it's movement. Goofy. So I must hand direct every ship to it's destination.

While this is only a Noble level game(2.8Lite w/o Modsmods, Options at minimal with NO REV, No Vassals, No BarbCiv, No SAM), the AI has shown next to no inclination to travel the seas. The Barb ships Love the storms of course.

Yes the autopathing definitely tries to end the turn on a storm tile, even if there's only 1-2 tiles of storm and the rest are clear.

I'm hoping to end this brief discussion here, or hopefully move it to another thread afterward, but storms do give a defensive bonus, so computer logically, they are good squares to end on. When a unit chooses it's route to a faraway destination, it favors the shortest course, followed by the course that's most defensible at the end of each turn.

Makes perfect sense then, but still a bug. Maybe instead of +25% defense on storm tiles, -25% defense? Don't remember if those are the right numbers, but it would help prevent the problems with the AI loving storm tiles. Why does it give a bonus in the first place?

Playing my first game with 2.8 and so far everything works beautifuly, no ctd's no bugs...
The game kept me 'one more turning' til 3 am last night. Great job Zapp and everyone involved.
One question though, I'm playing Romans (on Monarch) and around 1500 BC I was able to build my UU Praetorians (strenght-9), while the rest of civs had archers (str-3) and spears (str-4), and I wasn't the most advanced civ in the game, rather 4th or 5th according to scoreboard. Even later, when thay got pikes (str-6) and axemen (str 7.5 v/melee) I still didn't have any trouble defeating the entire neighbouring empire with minimum, if any, casualties on my side.
Is this intentional to represent roman superiority of a time? If so, I would say it still needs a bit balancing.

The game does not appear the menu. Just do not work, some main menu items. This problem appeared in 2.8 Beta. At 2.71 this problem was not there.

Code32, it looks like you have non-English charters in your install path, and My Documents path. That's going to cause issues.
