Rnes5: To Trust a Thief. Board NES

From: Russia
To: Germany

You agree that 58 is mine don´t you? We would give you one credit!

To: Turkey

60 and 54 are mine!

To: Italy

We would like to trade with you. Can we trust you?

From Austria and Germany
To Everyone who cares

The governments of our nations have gotten a few letters with varying proposals from the great nations of the world. While we appreciate the offers, we can NOT realy accept or deny any of them.
Both our nations are run by a government system different from your own. While you have monarchs, depots and highly stable longterm democracies, we have a very ficle electorate that changes governments on a regular basis, and so a promise you would get now, would be viod by next year (turn) as there would be a completely different government.
Our Governments would like to appologise to everyone (espeicialy our neighbors) for any inconvenience this causes you, but while we lack a solid leadership, we can not enter into any longterm agreements (ie longer then a turn's worth).
Our nations are currently fasing severe problems with crime, so if you send caravans into our nations, you do so at your own risk. you'll have about a 50% chance of having them stolen (i'll roll dice).

thank you.

National Proclamation Commity (NPC)

[out of char]
i know this sucks, but i realy cant play the npcs like normal nations. i'd suspect myself of cheating if i did. i'm trying to get someone to take atleast one of them.
i guess i could do Non Agreesion Pacts, but that's about it. As far as trade goes, i'm rolling dice to see if they steal.
this of it as countries that have their own problems and have gone into deep isolationism.

oh, also. planning to do update tomorow.
if i get the last 2 orders i need today though, i might have time to do it today.

Nevermind.

um... ye....

PP, the post above "from germany and austria", prety much sais the same thing i said in answer to your pm.
as for your orders, i thought i had them already...???
or is that PM something else (even though it sais "spain orders" in title).

if you send me a question or something, dont call the PM "orders" cause i wont read those till the time of the update.

No, please read those orders. I have a question ;) there's nothing secret in them. Yeah, in the future I'll keep that in mind and won't call them "orders".

SPECIAL EMISSARY TO FRANCE!

After consulting the Rulesmaster Roddy ;) and our advisors, the King of Spain has decided that the war will not benefit his country. Therefore, we wish to make peace now. We will send you the three gold you demand.

Cordially,

Pontiuth, King of Spain.

PS: We will wait for you to agree to the treaty before we send our orders.

To Spain
From France

As we said, war will continue until we physically have the money in our hands. Until then, we are at war. That includes this turn. So until next turn, when we will know that we have the money, there will be no peace. We cannot trust you again. However, seeing as we do not have an offensive army hardly at all, we will agree to a cease fire until next turn.

All right. That is ok with us. After all, an invasion would only result in a destruction of both armies, guaranteed. Waste of money for both of us ;)

ok, have all orders now.
starting update. shouldnt take too long unless i get interupted by coworkers wanting me to do some work (which is well within the real of possibility as i'm actualy AT work now, lol).

well, after some confusion and a couple resent orders, i've got everyone's (well, except germany and austria, who dont have players)

there are some battles this turn:
Province 40: 1 Rome vs 1 Austria
as all 1 vs 1 battles, this ended with both armies being destroyed.
neither side gets the province
Province 54: 1 Russia vs 1 Turkey
see above
Province 12: 1 France vs 0 Spain
The Spanish amry had orders to wait as long as possible before moving out. And having waited and seen no imminent attack, they followed their orders and moved. a few days later, the French arrived. This was the French army's first real order, and they were nerveous enough to attack the town that the Spanish had just built. The town was destroyed before the generals were able to stop their men, and order them to save the few people who were trapped in the burning buildings.
Sorry PP, but you cant give orders that would amount to the army being in two places. its either moving or its not, and as the rules say, first they move and then they look around to see if there's anyone to fight.

econ:
county - gold to spend ... - trade caravans you can send to it.
Britain -9 ... - 4
France -6 ... - 7
Spain -5 ... - 7
Africa -20 ... - 9
Rome -7 ... - 10
Turkey -11 ... - 7
Russia -13 ... - 7
Norway -13 ... - 9
Germany -7 ... - 10
Austria -5 ... - 8

Roddy: Actualy I toguht the will try holding their borders with Turkey...

to Spain:
Now you are dead, why you took 13 when we said we will attack who that takes it unless it's neither us or France?

to France:
You didn't took 13 for 2 turns, now we refuse to agree to our deal about it. We will take it if we can.

to Austria:
Sorry didn't tought you will go there... We won't go east anymore.

ok, for those of you that either havent thought through the combat system, or just dont care to.

there are certain quirks in the system that make small battles prety predictable.

a 1 army vs 1army battle will always end up with both armies dying
here's why (helps if you follow the rules for battles):
a=1
d=1
so x=1
both roll 1*1=1 sided dice
both get a roll of 1 (cant get anything else on a 1 sided dice)
both loose 1/1=1 armies.

on a 2 army vs 1 army battle:
a=2
d=1
so x = 2
attacker rolls 4 sided die (2*2=4)
defender rolls 2 sided die (1*2=2)
if the attacker rolls anything but a 1, the defender dies (and the attacker will loose one army if the defender rolled a 2)
if the attacker rolls a 1 and the defender also rolls a 1 then both loose one army (same roll = rounding up of 1/2) which will leave the attacker with 1 army alive.
if the attacker rolls a 1 and the defender rolls a 2 then one attacker dies, and it becomes a 1 vs 1 battle (both end up all dead)
so basicaly a single army cannot beat 2 armies, the best it can get is a draw (kill both and die), but that's only a 1/8th chance.

with more armies, it becomes more random.

1. I think the first turn of the Free Trade agreement has been a financial success. Every PC in it has made good money. Everyone not in it, well ... hasn't.

2. Spain, what a rough turn. Loss in combat to France, tick off Rome diplomatically, and now a loss in trade. It was not my intention to trick you. I thought I was pretty clear in private mail and the public forum, that I have free trade with other people who have free trade - as several AFTA members saw - but that does not necessarily mean everyone. I guess you misunderstood.

(Edited to remove "Sorry". I didn't plan or intend it, but it would be untruthful to say I'm sorry. I won't give it back, for example. :king: )

3. Germany - wow. This NPC is doing at least as well on the board as any PC! 6 provinces, 2 towns, and 3 armies - that's as good as Rome, and better than anyone else!

4. So, we've got 2 wars on the board, if not 3! Roddy, does Austria consider itself at war, or do NPCs not go to war, just like they don't make treaties?

well, Austria is a realy tough one for me now.
if i was playing it as a player i would definetly go to war with Rome over what he just did. @ Erez
some good reasons for it:
1. austria's other borders are prety safe. Turkey and russia seem to have just started something, so are unlikely to pay much attention to Austria. and germany is an npc (i know that's not a fair reason, but hey, its there)
2. the war would be closer to my capitol then his so i'd be able to get reinforcement to the fights faster.
3. Rome seems to have started to have problems one the France/Spain side, further giving austria an advantage.

however, as an NPC there are a few factors that make that an unwise course:
1. while i know that i wouldnt cheat (read erez's orders before doing austria's) and i think most people here (including erez) would believe me that i didnt, there would still be a window of doubt that i do NOT want to open up.
2. with me also controling germany, it makes it very difficult to say wheather austria is abusing the fact that it (in reality) knows what germany will do. not to mention that erez has no chance of convincing germany to ally with him against austria (i will NOT have two npcs that i'm controling fight, the headache that causes is not worth it).
3. and he's apologised for doing it. though i cant realy believe he didnt think austria would mind having TWO territories next to its capitol taken over by another nation, you never know.

if atleast one of the 3 reasons NOT to go to war wasnt there, i'd proly go to war (like if someone took germany), but as is, i'll just have austria stay the isolated NPC that is is.

now COME ON SOMEONE take over one of the two NPCs.
