T1300_Tonawanda.jpg

I would like to keep the city, but it is rather isolated and has no resources that we need. We raze it instead and gain 7 more slaves (some surrendered earlier).

Hire a geek in Utica so that the worker in produces in a few turns will be a slave.

Build Neils Bohr 2N of Oka.

Mace beats Spear in Caughnawana, on the West Coast (50 of 61).

It will cost 300 gold to upgrade our 5 catapults to cannons. We have 23 cannon at the moment. Send the five catapults towards what remains of Carthage, where they can whack Numidian Mercanies better than Muskets.
[IBT]

I did not do a final cycle through the cities. None are cranky, but some may need to be fine tuned.

Pending Attacks
Caughnawana (2) on the west coast: Mace and Musket, Beserk in Wild Wild West is on the way to help. I expected only one defender in the city.
Ganges (2) down south of Tyendenaga: Musket next to the city just to observe, not really ready to attack.
Cirta (1) on the tundra north of Furs: Hubba I is ready to attack next turn. Have a Mace coming to help, if needed. Hubba I is 12/18, but should be able to take out 2 Numidian Mercanaries. There were two defenders in Sabratha.
Theveste (3) is facing 2 Beserks and 1st Muskets. The Army is there to protect the Beserks from counterattack. Two Beserks facing two Numidian Mercanaries is sort of chancey, but it was the best attack force we had at the moment.

Pending Counterattacks
2nd Beserks is at 12/18 and guarding 7 slaves. It might face some angry Iroquois on the IBT.
Cadiz-Skeet Shoot-Coba is a very active area. This is closest we are to the Maya so this where they attack. Visible is one wounded Knight. The only gap in the area is the hill between Coba and Skeet Shoot and only a Knight can get to it in one turn. Normally we've kept a Erik Bloodaxe's Musket Army on that tile, but I used it help defend an exposed eBeserk. However, Skeet Shoot has 7 cannons, Cadiz has 7 cannons and the hill where that Army is currently has 8 cannons. Any knight trying to get to Coba will soon be redlined and dead.

Skeet Shoot Area 1300 AD
Spoiler :

T1300_SkeetShootArea.jpg

This is that area currently.

Workers/Slaves
In our interior, most of our good land is as developed as it can be until we get rails. I have small stacks of workers building roads on hills and mountains for later resources.
On the front lines we are changing mines to irrigation and roading/irrigating as we go.

The Sugar at Sugar Choke has been irrigated.

Tech
After we learn Education we need five techs to leave the Middle Ages: Astronomy -> Physics -> Theory of Gravity/Magnetism and Banking. I think Banking should be next and then we follow Astronomy to Theory of Gravity and then get Magnetism. Having better boats doesn't do us much good until we subdue this continent.

We can adjust the tech slider for faster research. I kept it a bit low so we could upgrade our trebuchets to cannons and that is now done.

Whackin' Thinkin'
Carthage has 5 cities. We can see 4 of them; the largest is size 3, Thevete.
Iroquois have 10 cities. We can see 7 of them; the largest is Muach Chunk at 9.
Mayans have 16 cities. We can see 9 of them; the largest ones are on the east coast and are size 9.

Our culture is better than either Carthage or Iroquois but is vastly outranked by Mayan culture.

Only the Mayans have been regulary sending multiple units our direction each turn.

Obviously, Maya is the strongest civ we face on our land.

I'm thinking/pondering the wisdom of saving the Maya for last. First, we take out Carthage, then focus on Iroquois. This gives us a lot of green land for science farms. I envison using Skeet Shot as the pivot point of our forces. Maya attacks at Skeet Shoot, we attack elsewhere using Skeet Shoot as bait for Maya. Not sure if this is the best way to go, but thought I would offer it up for discussion.

Boy youse guys are doing a great job. Excellent work so far!

:goodjob:

I am thinking this game will take a Lot of time, In a Situation like this without Cavalry, Will be Tough.

At least Berserks have the same attack as Cavalry, if not the speed. If we had rails, that would be less of an issue, but right now our research rate is very slow. We need to ICS the tundra areas for more support and clear some grassy areas for specialist farms to get a better research rate. Otherwise, just need to get the Iroquois and Carthage extinctified so we can take down the Maya before they get Rifles. If they get them, our pain will be radically worse. It may be the weekend before I get to this, I still have SGFN-05 turns to finish and a set in TT-01 to do before I can take the save.

In hindsight, our excursion in India did not help us at all. Those units mostly survived attacks and killed the wounded but did not conquer very much territory. Nice idea, but it just didn't work out.

More Notes
I looked around for another luxury for us to capture but did not find one. The Mayas have one luxury at least (but I can't remember what it is). With two luxuries we have some leeway in how we garrison our cities. More would be better, of course, but we will have to do some fogbusting first.

We may want to consider rushing some settler builds to boost our science. I set some cities to Wealth so that they could grow and support geeks. We've got a pretty good number of workers and slaves. Most of the wetlands are gone and they are running out of serious things to do, which is why I have some roading mountains and hills. Until we learn Steam Power there isn't a lot for them to. But we do need to build more cities that can become geek-farms. We'll need Infantry and Artillery to take out Rifles without spilling a lot of Viking blood.

I'm just curious about the iron situation. I noticed that the Carthaginians had some Iron on our continent but I didn't see any more. Was there more iron and did anyone ever see Iron on the other continent. When I played there were no swords in play but that could have changed without my seeing it.

That really was one of the worst maps I have seen for all resources.

The Ottoman have Iron, as do the Iroquois, Maya and Carthage. It's just that we lacked Iron. We also have saltpeter and horses, so it is luxury resources that are absent in our neck of the woods. Maybe after all is said and done, we'll find other shortages.

I have to Disagree with Commando, Our Excursion in India was helpful cause it crippled a Rival, A fight with Carthage (only visible civ at the time) would be painful with Swords

I am preparing to play later today, hurray! Hopefully I can continue our progress.

Yay, I'm finally done with this turn-set. Good news, kinda, Carthage is off our radar and zero threat for now. Bad news, they are still alive somewere. Good news, the Iroquois will be in the same position at the end of CBobs next turnset. They are pretty well thrashed, so we can start planning the Mayas demise. Here is the turnlog:

I just Have to Post or you Guys will never pick this up ;)

CB is up

I have to Disagree with Commando, Our Excursion in India was helpful cause it crippled a Rival, A fight with Carthage (only visible civ at the time) would be painful with Swords

Lurker:

What makes you say they were crippled? The poor performance on research is just because they are poor at it. When you finally arrive they will be pretty much were they would have been anyway.

In the mean time the units sent over there slowed down your expansion on your continent. resources were spent on boats that you never really needed.

I grant you that it probably does not matter, but it could in a tougher game. The consensus of locking in your land first came about out of trial and error, not capriciousness.

Excuse me, What makes you think we would have even a Remote Chance of giving any pain to Carthage with our Swords?

AFAIK, we got leaders out of that Excursion as well. We Cant do anything on our Landmass until we had removed Carthage and an Idea of How much Attrition that would lead to is Terrifying.

Granted, The Indian Excursion was almost Useless, But We would have had a Pathetic Chance against Carthage At that point

I think CBob is having trouble finding a way to play right now, so it may be some time before he can take it. As far as India goes, we did kind of lose some time there rather than icing the Maya and Iroquois sooner, but that's water under the bridge. Progress is occurring now and that is what matters.

I did get my turnset played on Monday, but my handoff notes are rather weak at the moment.

Good News: Iroquois have only one visible city.
Bad News: Maya have Cavalry.

I'll post the save, turnlog and notes as soon as I can.
