Role PLay Challenge: Chairman Mao's Revised Plan

Just something to note in the future: it looks like Willy is attempting a cultural victory. He's a long ways off it yet and doubtless you've noticed it but just be wary :)

I hate Freaky Yellow Martian Dude.

You know what to do Madscientist. March yourself over to Mao's house and speak unto him with your God Voice.

"LET SLIP THE DOGS OF WAR!"

And good riddance to him. My least favorite AI.

OK folks, I played the next segment which I will post in a bit. Last play until tomorrow as I have family business today.

A quick synopsis

First we tried teh peaceful tech approach first and got murdered, as Sury teched real fast and had superior military. Not acceptible.

Second I reloaded the game from the Last posted save and se did much better. Sury has been severely crippled and we are in very good shape although we alot of infrastructure to clean up. The upcoming segment is basically all war, but ended in peace and we eliminated a big threat to Maoian way of life!!! And not just Sury.

So before anyone starts complaining, yes I reloaded the game at the save. I felt the RPC was going along well and really did not want to watch the entire thing drop. And of course we all want to see Sury get what's coming to him.

Remember these RPCs are made for fun, with some education features. And I really want to exploit the espionage angle for all it's worth, Sury had ALOT of nice scotland yard cities!!!

That's another reason I'm not a fan of marathon games, if I end up in a losing situation after so many hours of effort it makes me annoyed.

Your game, your rules mad, they are entertaining threads and interesting strategies are tried. I'm thinking of giving espionage a go soon because of this thread.

Chairman Mao's revised revised plan now then eh?

Not exactly revised, we are sticking to all the RPC rules this game and actually did another thing in the upcoming post that was not in the rules but certainly followed the flavor of Mao's plan!!

A revised revised plan? Perhaps. Maosim must spread to all the world!!!! If that's what we need to do, that's what wee need to do.

Also, @Juvenal, yes I did notice. Willem is very close so if he drops the culture slider and aim for the culture win I'll attack with modern weapons. Otherwise I plan to keep Willem as an Ally.

Chairman Mao's Revised Plan: Part VII

OK, Surymanan has met his fate. He is a dangerous threat to the spread of Maosim and he must be takne care of!!!! There is still alot to do for the Maoist plan to work, but first things first.

As I mentioned in the above post, the first try we went after democracy and tried to expand peacefully. Sury targeted steel/RP/rifling very fast resulting in a pretty inevitable defeat for us. SO if anyone wants to be a stickler, you can consider teh RPC lost here. MYself, I reloaded the save and played much more agressively, the correct thing to do here and it paid off. So I'll continue the RPC as it is here.

First we make a trade with Willem

OK, my plan was to steal corporation real fast. Well we never did that, too much else to do so that's top priority next segment.

We started a two front war with Sury, hitting the east with a weaker force.

That is a start over there.

The majority of the force was a very compact region to the south.

A good springboard here.

And for cash and some diplomatic favors, we got Sal into the war.

Here we took another eastern city, with that coastal city next in line

And here you can see the Powergraph numbers so far, Sury is getting hurt.

Another Sourthen city we captured.

Here is a littel better view of teh eastern front

And the sourthen front

The goal in the south is to raze Angot Thorm and capture teh Khmerian capital.

On the eastern front

And we surround the sourthen front.

Now, one thing I should mention here. Sury has gotten the tech of Steel, but he had one source of iron which we pillaged. He can build as many grenaders as he wants, but no knights or Cannons.

Now regarding the AP we got this nasty vote

Which passed. That is it we are sick of the damned AP. We actually we able to demand the city from Justinian who agreed. Voluntary gift of a city, how about that!!!

Unfortunately I could not get troops there fast enough, Sury captured it and we recaptured it.

Here we finally captured Angot Thorm which we burned to the ground.

We then sent what was a very large stack, with airship support to the Khmer capital

There are ALOT of wonders here including the Kremlin!!!! More eps.

At this point here is the power numbers

Here is a view of the captured capital.

Now about the location of the AP

Ah, the captured constantinople city. Once Justinians, not khmer.

WE capture the city, and BURN it to the ground. No more AP, a true Mao thing to do!!!

War weariness is a big problem, we have been running 50% gold and 50% culture. we need to move along here and Sury will be arround to kill off later.

We also got the city of Thessalonia back!!!

To be continued

Chairman Mao's Revised Plan: Part VII continued

OK, we saved here and the status

10000 eps versus Will. Well that's worth at least corporation, probably Corp and Steam Power.

And the victory condtions.

OK, Charlemange is ahead in population but I am pretty sure that will change.

So we are doing pretty well. We are following the Maoian victory condtions, we have state property, stayed atheist, utilized espionage, and have the second highest population.

We are friends with Wang/Saladin on the other continent. Charlemange is some concern but we still have a good tech lead there. Sury is a dead snake, as is Justinian. Willem is still a wild card here.

SO my plan is this

1) rebuild infrastructure while maintaining power number parity with Willem. He is not one of those crazy leaders that needs higher power numbers, he generally stabilizes.

2) Leave Sury alone until I can either completely obliterate him or Willem finally declares war on him.

3) Get the espionage game up and going again.

4) Go for a space race win.

Now, seams like the internet is a great idea for the icing on the cake for the espionage game. However, that will also get us monotheism/theology/divine Rgight which contradicts the rules. So I'll leave that choice to those following the game, do we take the internet? Frankly I see nothing wrong with that providing we ignore all the religous civics.

The internet allows lots of unwanted things from a government perspective ^_^. It's not like those techs are going to help you, so I'd say just take it.

In my most recent game here (another failure), I accidently accepted monotheism as a tech from war (not why I gave up), so I'm feeling generous on the rules :p. Seriously though, the internet doesn't really conflict with the conceptual design of the RPC. There's nothing particularly religious about the internet, but it's factored into espionage considerably.

though i think china has restricted the internet access of its citizen's but i think you should take it if for no other reason than to stop everyone else getting it

how are you planning to get everyone into state property?
the caravel exploit might help; i'm haven't tried this but i remember reading that if you leave a spy in a rivals city it gets the stationary in city bonus without any chance of discovery

MadScientist, I thank you for opening my eyes to the value of espionage.

I really think this is the most educational game you've been showcasing lately! It'd be great if you could post a summary about how to use espionage efficiently once you finished that game!

I think I'll go buying a little red book to learrn how to play Civ IV!!

Keep up the good work!

I think you should avoid the internet. Remember first that they will cause you to learn forbidden technology. Then consider the real-life Great Firewall of China. China is quite famous for it's highly censored internet access. I bet if they could just blot it away from the world entirely they'd be happy to do it. (So might plenty of others as well.)

So I say no Internets for Mao.

-abs

Mao and Internet? lol

Many years ago we had a system, that prevent us to listen foreign radiostations. The system is still here, as a monument of stupidity. And yes I live in post communist country.

Found some time to play the next segment, and will post it. Mao's plan looks like it is very likely to sucede with one possible problem.

Espionage has been extraordinary although the pool may be drying up and we have 1 GSpy to use and another on the way very soon, but the next segment has shown the masterful strength of teh Chinese espionage game,

we stole the following techs from Willem

Steam Power
Corporation
Military Science
Railroad
Assembly Line
Radio

We also took out almost all of Sury's cities, and clearly have the most population and strongest economy. So we are basically out-teching the tech leader now.

But there is still one big issue about Maoism that yet needs to be settled.

How to spread state property to all AIs? There is one that will not adopt it!

Hasn't china been accused of supporting cyberterrorism against the United States? Sounds like using the internet for offensive purposes is a very chinese thing to do.

Mad, really, the answer to your question is obvious.

ESPIONAGE.

You can use espionage to make any civ switch to any civic you're in.

Chairman Mao's Revised Plan: Part VIII

OK, Maoism has taken the world by storm!!!! this segment is essentially 3 main part, the end of Sury as a threat, infrastructure, and espionage.

First after the Khmerian War III we send a spt off to Willem's lands

And we have some choices.

We ended up having enough ep's to take both. Now most of the recent techs were stolen from the same city, but that well has dried up a bit.

Note the ep cost to steal a tech here

Compared with

Will built an Intelligenmce Agency in the first city, adding 50% to our costs for stealing techs. No problem, we will focus our espionage against that newer city.

Like so

So we found out what Will was up too as far as "We have enough on our hands"

Good, that opens us up to deal with Sury before he tries to attack us again.

I have a bunch of screeshots, but essentially the war came to this, we stormed Sury's eastern lands with the same military we finished the last war with, absorbed it all leaving him with teh former Dutch city of Deft and one other city burried in the south amongst Willem's lands.

Your dammed lucky Sury that Mao has many more important things to do rather than exterminating the Khmerian race. If this was Big Al, but it's not.

Back to espionage

Now Will has infantry so I planned to spam machine guns, just in case. Thing is we couldn't build them fast enough to keep up with espionage.

We did tech some things the old fashioned way: COmbustion/Artillery/Electricity/and part way through Industrialism at the save!!!

And now Sal and Charles are going at it!!! We gifted both COmmunism and made sure they we equal in military techs. Mao is just such a generous guy!!!

Will asks us to join the war against Wang, which we agree to for Diplo points.

Right after

OK, let's start to build Infantry. Now we did build West Point in teh HE city which also had 4 settled GGs (Bless the Great Wall), and since we are protective, are spitting out fast CG II, pinch, drill I infantry!!!! Protective weak, Bah.....

And another peep at the ep screen.

676 eps/turn, and there are still alot of espionage building to build!!!!

In fact, we have to wait patiently for 5 turns while Willem finished teching

Thanks Will.

Andf take a look at Bejing.

we are watermilling over as many cottages as we can so we can free up a spy specialist and gain the extra food. a full riverside town here has 6 commerce while a watermill has 3 commerce 2 hammers and 1 food. 2 watermills get's us an extra specialist. We are doing this along all rivers as I write. Production is power here, we are going to show the world the power of state property!!!!

As you can see in power

Will got ahead of us a bit but we quickly caught up and will get to industrialism faster. We will spam tanks, we have artillery, and we will not care that much about unit costs. If we fall behind in tech again, let the spies do thier job!!! Mao is planning to go to space, and if Will tried to adjust that culture slider he will pay the price.

Now in one of the secondary cities we popped a GSpy!!! But what to do with him??? Settling him in Bejing get's us 36 eps (with the multipliers) which is not that much. Also Bejing is 8 turns from another GSpy. SO I am thinking of starting a golden age, save the next GSPY and try for a different great person from Bejing for a second GA once we are building the spaceship!!!

Now one problem here is the potential that the UN will force us into Environmetalism. Not acceptible.

Charlemange is a least friend (Well Justinian and Sury hate us, but they are of no concern). So I am thinking of making a detoir to Mass Media to build the UN so we have a very good chance at controlling it (not teh UN victory, Mao wants to go to space).

Espionage, well we can steal Fascism but what for.

Mount Rushmore is not a real big deal as we do not plan to war much again. Police State is already open for us as we captured the Pyramids from Sury.

And finally, the question that was asked earlier today, how do we get everyone on board with State Property??

Well, seams like the entire world is in STate Property except for Charlemange. Does not cost much to switch Charles to SP, so I think that's the way to go.

OK, we build and head to space. Anything I am missing here??

Also, I am not going after the internet.

Espionage is ridiculous. Is it still overpowered when playing Marathon speed or did they fix that?

It's powerful on epic too. The costs scale based on beakers I think. The thing about espionage is, the "multipliers" for it are more effective than other options. You get a discount of 50% just parking a spy there. You get another for spending on that AI. You get more for them having your culture. More for them having your religion (which isn't in play here, but would otherwise!). All this BEFORE you start getting +% from castles, jails, bureaus and nationhood!

It's very strong. Of course, with the catch that it can't get you a tech lead by itself, not that such is very important necessarily :p.
