Role Play Challenge: Wang Kon the non-Isolated Isolationist

... I am planning of man producing academies with GSs considering teh RPC trade limitations.

:confused::confused: As familiar as I am with you keyboard mangling, Mad, I'm having a hard time decoding this one. Do you mean, "I am planning to produce many academies with GSs"?

Also, if the plan is to take out Ragnar early, your cities should be settled to block Hammi out as much as possible. Your city numbering would seem to indicate that you're thinking along similar lines (I'd vote for your sites numbered 1 and 2 first).

I think he's going to use the man cannons in halo to slingshot the oracle into the laser tech. I think.

Yes, wall off hammy and murder ragnar. That sounds like fun.

Man, can I butcher the english language or what!:D

Bulbing seams very inefficient this game due to no tech trading. Therefore, the best thing to do is produce GSs and build ALOT of academies. I suppose GEs and GMs would be OK for corps or settling, perhaps a rush a wonder or two.

I think one chop puts you in whipping range for the settler. Setting on top of the copper seems wise

Wang Kon the non-isolated Isolationist: PArt II

Well a very good round although no warfare yet, but that's coming next segment. The questin is how. We finished the "Korean Encirclement Manuever". Come see what I mean.

Techpath went: pottery/sailing.agriculture/masonry/mathematics/HBR/construction

First thing we settled our thrid city.

WKB0000.jpg

Right on top of the copper, an unpillagable resource of it. Although we have not teched IW yet, I know for sure we have some, or will have it. There are Viking Swords running arround by the save.

Anyway, this city we shall have a few cottages, a mine, and then the Maori statues. Wang is a patient man, even if it takes 100+ turns (we do have stone though!).

City #4 right whrer we wanted.

WKB0001.jpg

So far so good. Also barbs popped up exactly where we wanted the next city. This is great as we have the military to take it, and no AI can built a settler for it, plus we save a settler and can more quickly settler the northern stone area. The only issue is to NOT delay getting to it as if one of the Ais captures it first that will foil our plans!.

And you cna see a nice view of the land. Basically isolating Ragnar from Hammarabi/Suliman.

WKB0003.jpg

Now Ragnar will NOT get any foreign trade routes himself because we are blocking him from the sourthern half. We also dropped the 5th city right on the northern desert to cover the seafood/stone/sheep.

Now I know Ragnar is also financial and has alot of gold, but being protective we can leverage that trait bigtime. Once we got the stone hooked up we built walls in each city up to 1 turn each, then whipped every one for ~120gold per city for a total of 720gold!!!! SO we upped the slider at a loss to push ahead with HBR/construction.

Soon we got what I was waiting for.

WKB0004.jpg

we convert immediately, hoping to keep everyone happy for now.

After building a modest force of axes/chariots (because we do not trust the horned gentleman).

WKB0005.jpg

WKB0006.jpg

Which completes the "Korean Encirlement Manuever" KEM for short.

We popped our first GS which we use as an academy in the capital. With all those cottages/seatiles/scientist specialsit we are teching pretty well.

We got lucky and popped a silver resource

WKB0011.jpg

Quite productive that stone city.

Now Birka is rather interesting, as Ragnar plopped 4swords/2spears/1axe/1archer in that city.

WKB0012.jpg

He's not geering up for war yet (NO we have enough on our hands) but we sure as hell are

Here is Ragnar

WKB0013.jpg

Ahead in tech but he also has only 4 cities, 50% less than us (and we are utilizing all of ours).

And you can see we are ahead in Power numbers, probably overestimated based on our walls

WKB0014.jpg

The key may this area

WKB0015.jpg

THAT could be a stright line into Viking core lands!!!

We saved here right after teching construction.

I think next on the list is currency and CoL for the economy.

IO say we massively build war elephants, a few support Hwacha and attack from the north aiming at the near likely site of the floodplains city and onto the capital. To avoind too much bad diplomacy we had better finish Ragnar all at once.

In the meantime we are protective so we can absorb Ragnar's likely counter attack with archers and whipping jumbos or Hwacha (50% versus melee make then great defenders.)

So what does everyone think, time to take down the Viking! I fear he shall be attacking us anyway, trying to steal our alcohol resources!

Now, after watching that great vid I must chime in in the next RPC :)

Looks like you've got what you want, and we've got fun coming.

Taking out Rag now is clearly the way to go, now you've gone out of cities to build you have to take them. Just try to keep your cities at decent size to cut unit maintenance/supply.
I'd add mainly Hwacha to your offensive stacks as you'll want to bombard the defences and collateral is always nice. They make nice stack protectors. Jumbos are just icing on the cake :D

edit: Probabely try to piss off rag now (with unreasonable demands) so he declares on you and you avoid diplo hit (right - isolationist but caring about diplo :crazyeye:)

Great game sofar, get Construction and Hwachas asap, then get economic techs imo, while wiping Raggy and then Hammy. You should use archery units a bit more against Hammy since he has Bowmen,

After taking Slobberinbear's advice, rush the Capital... And then do as you wish with the rest.

can you see where his iron is? Even if you don't have IW sometimes you can see a mine on unmineable terrain
definitely take Birka first then take his gold city as it will likely be a profitable city immediately and AI capitals are always heavily defended

I think Iron is in capital BFC or surroundings. When madscientist mentionned them first rag didn't have many cities and I doubt he would have already hooked it up when it's near another city.

To take the gold city or cut off the iron, that is the question,
take out the Iron probably, its always easier to kill archers defending cities than swords and axes
definitely Jumbos first though

Im very confused about rule three... what exactly is allowed for warring? I thought you were not allowed to just bulldoze somebody real quick... Do you just have to have a good excuse? is it for the resources? Because he is going to declare war on you soon anyways?

It's a judgment thing. Having no trades at all and written limitation on warring makes a dull RPC (go look up my Tokugawa RPC). The idea is that Wang needs to expand enough where he can establish a strong enough economy to tech in peace, we do want to win the game. Then again, conquering the continent is an easy way to do that, so we do not want to go to that extreme. We are looking for a challenging space race, not impossible and not a cakewalk.

So the way I see it, Viking lands become part of Korea, we settle the entire north. Our 4 settled sourthen cities represnt a nice barrie to Isolate Korea from the rest of the world, a nice angle for the RPC!

Wang Kon the non-isolated Isolationist: Part III

We moved along quickly with our plans.

While we started building hwachas and war elephant (we built one and that was enough) we starting teching to improve our economy: Currency/CoL/IW

Soon we have a sufficient stack to the north

WKC0000.jpg

And some units arround the Jumbo city

WKC0001.jpg

And get down to business

WKC0002.jpg

Infortunately, Ragnar brings an Allie

WKC0003.jpg

Not much of a threat as things went and we could focus on Ragnar.

We march out northern stack towards the area we expect Nidros to be and luckily it's NOT on a hill. And very quickly

WKC0005.jpg

Rather weekly defended, the majotiry of Ragnars troop went from the elephant city north toward Stone City.

While Ragnar was doing that, leaving Jumbo haven defended by 1 archer and 1 sword we took care of it

WKC0006.jpg

We sacrifices a chariot which pillaged the elephants, and then moved a troop onto the forrested road cutting the capital off from that city.

After losing a few swords against a walled city across a river Sulieman came calling

WKC0007.jpg

Hopefully we can get along.

Now Ragnar's stack of swords/axes/spears attacked the northern walled stone city, suiciding themselves against protective archers and Hwachas. Soo the power numbers were.

WKC0008.jpg

We then took Upsala

WKC0009.jpg

Alot of cottaged floodplains and gold. I gotta say, Wang is lucky here to have alot of happy resources. Not much need for HR, I say representation once we hit constituion although US may be an option then. But we are getting ahead of ourselves.

Two cities remain, the first

WKC0010.jpg

We considered razing it but thought better of it

Ragnar's last city could be taken with just HAs, and it autorazed.

WKC0011.jpg

So Ragnar is no more. I plan to settle some more cities, but with closed borders we have time to right the economy first.

We finished CoL and IW (to find Ragnar's Iron) and saved.

The map

WKC0014.jpg

Our city screen

WKC0015.jpg

And the tech situation

WKC0016.jpg

In a hole in tech, not surprising.

OK, the big question now is what tech path????

I want somnething to protect ourselves, I am considering MC/machinery first for those protective combat I (remember the random event) crossbows. I think Aesthetics/lit/music.drama can wait a long time. The monarchy techpath too although that will stop us from fuedalism and guilds.

And I think this is a classic game for HOW DAMNED FAST can we get the internet.

After crossbows I think CS/paper/education for the needed UB.

Military we stop producing and watch the powergraph numbers.

Interesting game so far, just hope it's not too dull with no trading.

EDIT: Oh by the way, we got a GG which we have not used. I plan to settle him in a high production city to produce CG III defensive units, any suggestions???
