Role Play Challenge: Wang Kon the non-Isolated Isolationist

Wang Kon, the non-Isolated Isolationist: Part V

We played a very long segment here. No problems with Hammarabi and Suliman but we got hit from an overseas leader. Still no problem and are working to overcome our tech deficiency.

The techpath is enormous with no trading so I will avoid listing it. Suffice to say we started with gunpowder and ended with RailRoad.

First thing, civics. I liked Bestjie's statem, ent, do what best for us and the hell with diplomacy.

WKE0000.jpg

Nidros with it's settled GG can pop CG III of anyhting wee need. Or so I thought.

We met another leader, one who is pretty easy to deal with and ignore, but the likely thief of liberalism from us.

WKE0001.jpg

we popped 2 GSs which we both built academies with.

WKE0002.jpg

And you cna see tehcs

WKE0004.jpg

Hmmm, not so good. But we doo have the UB built almost everywhere and Oxford in teh capital.

Techs were actually dropping like flies and soon

WKE0005.jpg

And then

WKE0006.jpg

Military for protection. We did have to deviate to nationalism/constitution/democracy for happiness which took a total of 30 turns for the three techs. We are teching fast, but not trading is slowing us down.

The out of nowhere.

WKE0008.jpg

With triems against frigates. Well, that's what I get for ginoring stronomy for so long.

We lost the Maori city but reclaimed it.

WKE0009.jpg

Unfortunately we needed to rebuild the Moari. So is life as an isolationist.

To my horror, Cy dropped a stack right near a weakly defended apital. We marched units over, upped the gold for cash to upgrade, and prayed.

WKE0010.jpg

Luckily he did NOT attack dorectly and tried to reduce the defenses first, allowing us to reinforce and defeat the stack.

Soon we got peace after giving 850 gold. m Alot, but we preferred our peace, as well as a better navy.

After emancipation we readjusted civics.

WKE0011.jpg

Representation and mercantilism for some big help to the science rate.

Cy then continues to be annoying by attacking Gandhi. we don't care but I assume gandhi does.

WKE0012.jpg

The segment ended with us starting on Physics which has YET to be founded.

WKE0013.jpg

Alot of those techs are pretty cheap to research and quite a few are useless to us.

So here we are, teching away like mad. Alot of infrastructure. Some military.

I periodically check in on my sourthern inferior neighbors to find they are not loading up for war.

So our techpath I think is Physics and then beeline for industrialism (combustion/economics/corporation/assembly line/electricity/industrialism) . Then we can see whether we want to hit the internet or not.

Why not go for early Electricity, this would enable the Hit singles media wonder, and deny it to the AI's.

Since no trade, I can't see why you don't try to gain a monopoly on all 3 Media wonders.

And as such, why not build the U.N. in a boarder city, Gift it to an AI, then attack take the city and burn it down.

A true Isolationaist, wouldn't have to put up with the U.N. you've said "hang diplomacy", so why not eliminate it completely from your game.

this would proberly require the spending of a Great engineer on building the U.N. , but as they become more plentaful, so what.

P.S. biology is also very important, as is Sids for extra food if you have an excess of sea food over Cereal. One game I played off line, I actually only had about 6 sea food resources on my WHOLE CONTINENT. But i ended up with 11 or more of the Cereal foods.

Needless to say, it was a no brainer for Cereal Mills to be built then.

Wow, everyone hates Ghandi... Interesting way to play out an RPC. I would love to see you follow IPEX's advice... but, I don think Korea wants to burn down the UN. Now China on the other hand...

I agree with getting the media wonders, also, get internet to backfill a bit.

Doesn't the Internet grant the techs to everybody, like the Manhattan Project and Nukes.

If so, a computer beeline is helpful but not necessary, as you wouldn't mind getting beat to it.

If we built the internet, we get any tech that 2 civilizations know. So techs like monotheism/theology/divine right/ etc... that we do not manually tech will be gotten automatically. In this game, that's a mojor haul.

I like the idea of electricity for teh wonders, but will pass on building/burning the UN. The Koreans JUST do not care!

I know that. But I was wondering if it worked like the Manhattan Project and gave those techs even if somebody else built it

Aiming for Electricity / Radio is going to be huge for you. They are on the way to the Internet and will also give you happy resources / Eiffel Tower which will be useful sine you can't trade for happy resources. Also you will most likely need to defy a resolution or 2.

internet and millitary should be priorities now.
It looks like cyrus might be getting close to a critical mass he already has 2 vassals and will probably be able to vassalise gandhi, you may need to fight him and stop a domination win.

Getting one of the hammer and one of the food corps would seem like a good idea as well. though you will likely need aluminium later as well so consider getting aluminium inc if you lack the resource

I don't think cyrus will get DOM without getting a foothold on the korean/minor civs continent.

I'm not fond of the internet. I see it as a gamesaver, not part of the strategy. It is boring and cheap. I'd rather see you tech properly with financial korea.

I probabely should have added "... to me."

It may be a strategy but I just don't like it.

I just don't see much of a problem with it. You need alot of tech to get that far, and it's not that easy to build and cannot be rushed. Considering we are all computer geeks to certain degree who play the game, it certainly seams fitting!

As far as the ROC angle, I think the Koreans becoming obsessed with the internet sort of fits in!

Hm. I hadn't considered Cyrus' Vassals and the Domination limit.

Perhaps an invasion in order to allow his vassals to break free? Or does that go against RPC rules here?

If it does, then you could be in trouble.

A vassal's land only counts half so I don't expect him to hit dom. Also, in case you build the internet, you'll always be on cyrus tech level as he should gift his new techs to his vassals. I think it would take quite some razing to make cyrus lose his vassals.

Gah. If I had BTS, I'd check the save myself and see how close he is. But if he's a safe distance away, than Internet-SS is in order. Or time... :p

Media for the wonders, and Superconductors for the Laboratories (+25%) Science rate, nothing to be missed for a true isolationist.

then go up the Plastics route, so you can then build the Internet with Computers.

I'd really beline Superconductors, the Labs 25% will be , well a 25% boost to Science, for only building 1 building, and a 50% space race production boost

This is a standard size map. Default 6AIs. Mad had 3 of 'em as neighbors. This means Cyrus' conti will be smaller than mad's. Cyrus doesn't (and won't ever) own the whole continent). Cyrus has to attack the other conti to win dom.
