In real life evolution takes an extremely long time, and one creature doesn't just magically obtain a bunch of new traits. Mutations happen when a new creature is born and the mutations that are adapted to survive live and reproduce to continue those genes, and those that aren't die. Though I guess Roll To Dodge isn't known for it's realism.
